True Horror in the Concept of the Daleks ▶ Doctor Who Theory
TBH, I think there's a long-abandoned aspect of these creatures: they are the only lasting Doctor Who faction that's survived nuclear war. The idea that the only remnants of intelligent life after nuclear annihilation will be soldiers who are themselves little more than war machines, living in a personal tank for life support. Their only goals are Dalek purity - the extermination of all non-Dalek life including (especially any slight genetic mutation), and domination - a temporary means to further achieve their end of purity. They only innovate when they see a technology in use with the exception of their ability to use mirrors as transport. If they completed their end goal and conquered their multiverse they would either try to escape it, in-fight unto extinction or stagnate until resources run out.
Interesting. You should have used the word 'Compulsion' by the way, and 'transcending' didn't fit. Also, Daleks keep changing, nit even close to a cosmic constant - their hate - in general is though. Several Daleks have experienced emotions, Sec for one. Many Daleks were infected with Timelord and Human DNA - and were destroyed by the others. And what of the rainbow coloured chaps ? But, I niggle 🙂Fantastic graphics and video, really higher than top notch. Philosophically, when all goals are achieved then the story restarts - in the Big Bang ( when God gets bored ).
Being bing watching your vids. I like your on telling the Norse myths into a narrative. Hope you come back.
Hope you'll make / remake more of your wonderful Norse mythology videos. I've been hankering for more for the last 10 months.
Hey man, hope you are well, Allfadir hasn't heard enough yet, come back and tell us more
Well, to be fair, they're not THAT unified, they have a civil war like every second century or so.
Arcane please don’t leave again. Do you have other socials besides TH-cam? Like twitter or patron?
Makes me think of Charlie's Angels
I’m curious to see the next art used in your video about Loki children
Hate is strength
I would say you got only one thing kind of wrong. They do feel something emotional other than just Hate. They will never admit it, but they also feel FEAR! That helps to Fuel Their Hatred!
Hey AG, wonder if you'd care to give your thoughts on this?: "Mauler is pro-DEI, pro Sweet Baby Inc, and is anti-white racist. Go to the video "MauLer plays God of War Ragnarök - Part 3 - "I know you, god-killer... have you come for me now?"" and sort by new comments."
Okay, full disclosure first: I know nothing about the guy or his views and I haven't played any of the God of War games, and only know some basic stuff I've heard about them. My views on the "Angraboda issue" are such: 1) This is a video game series that mashes together superficial aspects of ancient myths and cultures, makes them their own and has fun with it. It is thus irrelevant in my mind what form they chose for mythical beings to have. They are *mythical beings* , they never had any canonical skin tone to begin with. There's no description of Angraboda that I know of from the sources. She's described as a giantess, that's it. This is just *one* iteration of her in *one* title of *one* video game franchise - this really is a non-issue to me. 2) When it comes to someone feeling that the skin tone change is jarring in contrast to the Norse setting - I see that as a matter of taste. Some people can get used to it, to others it breaks immersion. That is unavoidable risk of any art rendition. The other side of the coin is Kratos who is a literal albino ancient Greek turned divine - but everyone is used to him so they don't mind, as they shouldn't. When something sits with me the wrong way, I always try to identify if it is something crucial or superficial. More often than not it is just a gut-feeling of discomfort that dissolves upon closer interspection. Is Angraboda one of the main characters? - if yes, and she annoys me, I'll probably get used to her over the course of the game - if no, then I don't have to put up with her much and can enjoy the game regardless I haven't played the game, so I cannot tell for sure, but I'm pretty certain I would enjoy the game regardless on the look of one of its many characters.
If the Daleks succeeded in eradicating all other life forms then they would turn on each other, and a new Civil War would erupt between the Daleks of Skaro that contain the original Kaled-mutated DNA, and all others. There would be a Civil War led by 2 Emperors: the true Emperor/ Leader and a Emperor/ Leader who is not of pure Kaled DNA. They would attempt to pursue one-another across Time/ Space and since that would create a huge and expansive scope of paradoxes, then eventually the Daleks (of all DNA types) would surely render themselves extinct.
The tranquility and restfulness in its voice at 10:42 is uncanny, a Dalek at true peace on the other side of victory. It almost sounds gentle, nothing like anything we know the Daleks to be
Nice job narrating & analyzing the Daleks to the point of making them scarier than ever.
If I’m remembering from your previous stuff the next vid must be the one about Odin in American gods show
Their hatred is definitely the most constant and scary thing about them
What’s disturbing as well the Daleks technically started out as something good as the kaleds were mutating due to the chemical and nuclear fallout used in the thousand year war, Davros experimented to find out what they would become and designed a mobile life support device for them. If only he stopped there instead he began creating more of the mutants, editing their brain chemistry and DNA to make them hate and lack compassion, creating the Daleks. A entire race of, armoured eugenics obsessed fascists unleashed onto the universe all because of one man. And if the expanded lore is true the Daleks are fully aware of this and hate that there purity is a genetic mutation of what was once the kaleds.
So well put, thank you! This is almost another topic in its own right.
@@arcaneengine6216 Thank you, yeah the origins of the Daleks are just layers of horror.
Thank you for rereleasing these 😃
You welcome mate 😄 glad you appriciate it!
The real horror - they are the biological Annalong of what Marx said about capitalism (lol 😂) "The ultimate outcome of all this competition is the end of competition". The ultimate outcome of the Daleks nature is the end of evolution.....but unfortunately through extermination. And there is something else. They are actually innocent. They have, not only no choice - They are actually incapable of corruption. In some ways they are "the meek...pure of heart". But they will kill you.😊
why does this have a hundred likes-
The Daleks know about parallel universes, so my first thought is that if they did exterminate everything in the universe, they would simply move on to the next one.
I agree, that is the premise I was already coming from at 9:40 - since we already seen them in *Journey's End S04E13* to have the capability of destroying *everything* in every reality using the reality bomb, I was trying to imagine a scenario of what would have happened if they had succeded. How would they react if they were the only thing left, period.
And eventually end up encountering their parallel versions and probably going to war against them because they are different.
If a creature is only capable of experiencing hatred, can it be considered evil? ....... Yes. Absolutely, yes. Jmo.
If the Daleks win 🏆 and have nothing more to hate, could they still be considered "Daleks"?
I think this is a crucial point that made me change my mind on the ultimate fate of the Daleks. If they were to succeed in exterminating everything else, then they would have nothing more to hate. BUT if they have nothing more to hate, they cease to have that fundamental trait that makes them Dalek. I think they would then exterminate themselves, since they are no longer "pure" Daleks. They really are the Uroboros, eating its own tail.
For as on the nose as the representation of Nazis as it was, I found that especially in the early NuWho era, the establishment of that mindset was both engaging and dangerous. You used to look at them and go ‘haha funny shouting angry evil german racist analogue.’ But at first, the same idea was played with a new gravitas. That yes, racial hatred to the point of genocide is a terrifying and abominable thing, especially if they have the power to do so. And to the victims of the Nazis, they would have seemed like it. That logic and compassion can be twisted into depraved depths of unfathomable cruelty because of a fundamental basis of their worldview. And the worst part is, we can see ourselves in this embodiment of evil. That the Nazis were human, just like us. We’ve seen people do terrible things because of this ingrained hatred, even through the eyestalk lens of a spacetime-faring genocidal assortment of killer octopi in salt shakers.
Dalek shells are made out of Dalekanium
Dalek mined, Dalek refined, Dalek forged...but is it *Dalek* ?
no matter what you say or how you say it. you cant make a trash can with a plunger that has to say exterminate to reload scary or cool. daleks are the dumbest looking things in all of sci-fi.
If the Daleks succeed, and all there is left is Dalek, will they find peace? No, they would not. All they know is hatred, they are, for all intents and purposes, Nutzis in tin cans. They fight amongst themselves, not only over genetic purity, but ideological purity. Three main factions I can think of off the top of my head are the Imperial Daleks, who follow the Daled Emperor, the Cult of Skaro, who follow their founder's beliefs that Daleks CAN be improved further, that the original genetics are not the 'purest' form the Dalek can take, and the Cult of Davros, who revere the Kaled who created them in the image of his own unquenchable hatred. Exery single Dalek sees THEMSELF as the Only True Dalek, and all others are merely tolerated for as long as they are useful. If the universe were filled with only Daleks, then they would engage in a multi-front, multi-faction civil war until there is only one Dalek left. That Dalek would then make clons of themselves to ensure the survival of the Dalek race, and the infighting would resume once more.
I have indeed changed my mind on the ending. I acknowledge your points, but even the idea of Dalek factions imo still has to end with *a* Dalek or a group of Daleks eventually coming out on top as the only things period. But I did realize that even if there was just one Dalek left alive, it would lack something that fundamentally makes it Dalek - something to hate. If a Dalek doesn't hate, it isn't a Dalek by their strict definition. Therefore any Dalek or Daleks left standing at the end of everything would just end themselves out of pure conviction. They really are the Uroboros eating its own tail.
@@arcaneengine6216 The Last Dalek would not self-exterminate. Daleks are defined by their hate, but their hatred is based on their unflinching belief in the superiority of the Dalek race. No, the Last Dalek would see itself as the Supreme example of the Dalek race, by virtue of eliminating all competition, and would seek to perpetuate its own perfection by cloning itself, creating more Daleks, which will soon break into factions over minor differences in philosophy (for reference, consider Prodestants who use "forgive us our trespasses" in the Lord's prayer versus those which use "forgive us our debts". A single word, similar meanings, but the groups will dislike each other for it, almost as much as they dislike Roman Catholics), and then, as a companion is won't to say after witnessing a fresh regeneration of the Doctor, "...here we go again..."
Surt is nothing less then Fire. He is the eternal hunger of the flame, consuming all regardless of what, until it is snuffed out itself, but from those ashes new growth grows. Is it moral to stop the end of time and kill the unborn world?
The daleks themselves put it best. They don't even really view war as war. To them, it is, as they said, "pest control". We're vermin to be wiped out, not enemies to be defeated. Because you respect an enemy combatant, you don't respect a rat.
Great video, as a side note, they can also be looked at from a tragic viewpoint as well, especially going off of the classic series back history. A race of peaceful scientists and scholars in a symbiotic relationship with a race of warriors to keep them safe, until those warriors turned on them. Backed into a corner facing potential extinction, their fear, pain, desperation, and paranoia slowly devolved into hate, malice, and rage, twisting them into the Daleks we know now. A potential reason they show no mercy was because no one showed them any until it was far too late to go back to the way things were.
Are the Daleks evil? Depends on your definition. They hate because that's all they know how to do. They don't see themselves as evil. Few do. But from the outside looking in, they are evil. Evil like the Borg. Both can be seen as a force of nature. Both want to make the universe of nothing but them. One wants to exterminate everything but themselves, the other absorb. Same goal, different methods.
there was no substance here, no opinion. What *was* your theory?
The Borg vs The Daleks! I wonder how that would play out...😮
I'd recommend listing to Jubilee to answer that last question
This is less _theory_ than simple stated observation.
This makes me want to play Stellaris as the Daleks again. I want to say that when it comes to Sci-Fi, I prefer Star Trek. Doctor Who is my favorite show ever, but the "history" changes with each episode. It's too inconsistent, convoluted and complicated. Everything is either canon or not canon. Despite saying that. Lord, I wish the Daleks were in Star Trek. Like, I don't even want the doctor or other Doctor Who characters in that like "crossover". Being of pure hate facing off against the United Federation of Planets would be poetry.
"The Daleks have conquered space, travelled beyond the universe, threatened every reality and challenged the most powerful race in the cosmos for control of time itself. They cannot be reasoned with, they do not form genuine alliances, they do not want surrender. They will not rest until the only form of life in the universe is Dalek life. One day, the last word that the last free creature in the universe will hear is... EXTERMINATE!" - Afterword, The Dalek Handbook, 2011.
If the Daleks ever succeed in exterminating all other life in the universe, they would surely turn on each other in time. With undying hatred and unwavering belief in their own superiority, eventually, they would kill each other for not being 'Dalek enough'. Only the sole survivor would be the True Dalek, one so ready and able to exterminate that it would exterminate itself, for if given the choice to exterminate or to not exterminate, it will commit that action *every single time* no matter the target. A peaceful Dalek is not a Dalek. A Dalek that will not exterminate is not a Dalek.
The whole concept of daleks is a mutated version of Nazi tanks: fully armoured killing machines driven by hating humans. It was only 20 years since world war 2 when daleks were introduced to the British pubic. At that time, there were still bomb sites in England that hadn’t been built on
Hegemonising swarm
Dalek is the word for god in a long long long lost language
that first animation of a mindless industrial assembly line birth... for some reason it reminded me of another old scifi thing screamers from was it hmm.. 1995 ? ish that saddly maby due to the lees 'stylish' presentation of it etc sighs.. i rarely hear anyone even remember as it likely never been seen by that many... despite a more solid plot then a lot of scifi 'ohh monsters are lose!' where warring factions with a single bunker stronghold each on a mining planet took the concept of mechanical burrowing drones ...and not just automated it fully planet side in a independent production facility ,but also introduced adaptation routines , wich obviously.. as time went on did far more then just improve the physical capabilities of the drones.. it also improved itself as it improved the drones ,to the point a mechanical species was born that with ease could make 'mimics' of anything in physical form.. and that intentionally started to hijack BOTH factions transmissions on the planet to the point one of the locals and the factions they where part of becoming completely ignorant of the real situation on the planet , and of what happened outside it and the 'disturbing' scary part of it.. not like it was a ''com blackout' no the machines listened until they could mimic the local officers and the off planet leaders to the point neither knew their decryption been broken or that they where talking to a intelligence with genocidal plans.. as guess how the machines padded out their resources to the point of becoming so many that offensive action of either bunker's manpower became near impossible ..setting up the situation for the machines to start misslead both the local humans and the offworld ones of a 'stalemate' situation.. yep , flesh , sinews ,bones... grease & lube while metal being added to the reserves and if you think the machines hade some contrived rule to only mimic a few things..nooope.. from basic functional 'worm' drones with intentionally inefficient sensors.. to ANYTHING else ..or anyone else honestly a better version of 'the thing' concept ,as the thing stuff always loses me as authors using it falls into one of two holes :/ ...either the dam thing conjures biomass out of thin air or.. for contrived reasons it dosent bother with infecting anything that not is directly related to humans
also.. side point but , if capable of time travle.. but not part of the fabric of space time , no they are not a constant of the cosmos only a constant of their universe still bound to its fabric pattern so to speak and dimensional crossing having access to the multiverse ,well THAT is one fk of a dual edged thing to have XD sure they are badass.. but they also face things if trying to go byond their origin universe that laugh at the 'constants' of them.. 40 k chaos for example and other such cosmic 'natural' forces ..even if trying to exterminate them or everything around them said forces like that just say 'no' ..or take daleks in equal amount to create other 'not' dalek stuff from.. wich also force the daleks into perhaps the one scenario they cant handle.. even if they get the capability to exterminate everything else.. there are some things that in that case still turn the last daleks into 'not' dalek how to handle that for a intellect that cannot hold back from trying to exterminate everything yet at the same time.. in doing so it ensure dalek extermination and the rebirth of 'not' dalek infestations so to speak.
I’ve often made this argument for why the Daleks are ultimately the most terrifying of all the enemies of the Doctor. They are focused, single minded, and arguably pure in their form and function . They are engineered to survive above all things and over all things. What makes this so remarkable is that it is not simply logic that prompts this focus on Darwinistic survival, but they feel so strongly the hatred and contempt they have for others. They are not emotionless but the epitome of hatred and centrism for the most practical reason, survival.
10:35 they will turn on each other, they need to destroy .
I think they’ll just commit Dalek-cide.
You need to do one based on the Cybermen
I just can’t take these guys design seriously enough
I have an idea for an dalek captain, he faces soon total destruction, he has no reinforcements, and armour is wounded, an logical creature would go to face it fear however this captain comes to an conclusion "if I am to be elimanted then I shall destroy everything" the idea is that this dalek fears failure in it mission but not death, in it logic the Mission must be completed and in order for this it must not die, as said an dalek that embrace the idea of total annihilation for all.
Good lord this video changed my view of the Daleks and made me think about how terrifying they are…
