Good video, but a few things to add to your background on the Chev SS. In Australia the nearest match to the Chev SS was the Holden Commodore SS-V Redline which is a VF series Commodore. The VF being an update to the VE platform that was used by the Pontiac G8. As you know the PPV was sold in the US as both a VE and VF model. Anyway, the VF SS-V Redline had the same basic cosmetic look as the Chev SS, ,but there were differences other then switching the steering wheel over to the other side and lights etc. The main one was the series 1 cars in Australia, stuck with the L77 as the default engine and had manual transmission as standard and auto an an option. The front seats were also different on Chev SS and the seat trim was different in pattern and colour to the Redline. Australian SS's never had the same trim until a small batch that were made right at the end of production as a limited edition Redline. The LS3 was fitted to our Redline for series 2 VF, Chev SS getting it from the start. There were also numerous specs differences too, like the Redline here having a sunroof and full size spare as standard, but no drivers memory or auto dimming rear mirror etc. Australian SS's never got magenetic ride conrol as that was a HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) exclusive out here for their range of Commodores. Not soon after the launch of the Chev SS, Holden began a process of softening up the US spec cars suspension after complaints the FE3 suspension from Australia was too harsh. Later Holden went into the HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) spares box and gave the Chev SS magnetic ride control to again, address US customer complaints the car was too stiff riding for daily driving. In Australia we had a mix of Euro and Yanks cars in the 60's and 70's and the legacy of that is we like fast cars, but they also have to handle corners, so we accept the ride trade off more happily then US customers who put an emphasis on 0-100 times and drag racing. Didn't help that Holden also tuned the FE3 suspension for track days and thats a niche the Chev SS, never was aimed at. Anyway, its great to see the Holdens being enjoyed in the US.

Haha love the mods mate! Im from oz with a 2007 statesman... i love this car so much! Had it for 17 years now and dont want any other car... very funny with that shit music comin on... im the same with all that spam crap on radio. Ive removed the blaupunkt stereo and put in an android auto system 10.1 inch. Im now working on the sound because it doesnt sound anywhere near like that beautiful system thats stock.... i love the front lights removing the orange and was thinking have you thought to tint the red tail lights at rear ( black red ?)... cheers

They’re big here in Alabama. Mostly Birmingham PD and 5.5 hours southwest of me, Mobile PD used a lot of them. Various departments liked them. Alabama State Troopers used those mostly, with an even amount also being Tahoes, and a few Chargers and Tauruses too… and then went to Chargers and Tahoes when Caprice was unfortunately discontinued.

Excellent video! I have a 2007 wm statesman where ive had the front stock unit upgraded to android auto. At the moment it appears only the front 2 speakers are in use but it has stock speakers im told i should change? I just want all 5 speakers upgraded to hear sound loud enough without an amp... apparently the stereo is too powerful for the stock speakers? Should i buy your exact speaker set here and replace? I dont need anything too fancy but right now the sound is very bad and i can only hit the volume notch to 15 or 16 before mass distortion occurs? Cheers and thanks for a great insight to this.

Thanks A LOT for making this video...the LED center panel on our '09 G8 developed a *huge* dead spot in the middle and required us to replace the entire instrument cluster...your video helped us avoid breaking several hard-to-replace parts--which are now even *more* brittle with age--so we appreciate this walkthrough a ton!

Do the mounting brackets come with the nvx kit? Got mine coming in the mail and just got a pair of the adapters.

I just installed mine now ive got an abs fault and my stability control is permanently off 😅 now ive gotta figure out why because my old cluster didnt show an abs fault on my car before i pulled it out 😅

The 2014-2017 Caprice is different unfortunately. Required more work. The front door speakers are all one piece. Plastic housing/bracket and speaker. The speakers cannot be unscrewed.

I want a caprice but I hate the look of the front end. I wish I could get the holden caprice front end in America

Only correction i have since owning my 2014, is that the rear seats are interchangeable between years. I put leather g8 seats into my 2014 ss based interior. It wasnt 100% bolt in, but its only the middle seat back missing 2 studs, so i only used 2 and it fits great. G8 seat side trim does not fit though, as expected.

2011-2014 I just prefer that comfort of the middle shifter and sports mode and traction control

This young man has provided an excellent video. When changing the 3.5" center speaker in all cars there are a couple of considerations. The first of which is impedance and sensitivity. If you change them, the speaker volume emitted from the center may also change. Sometimes this is good, sometimes it isn't. Also, a tweeter has been added on the nVX speaker, which may also alter the sound stage. Just be aware that you might not want to add a new speaker having a sensitivity of 92 into the center, because it may dominate the soundscape if your side speakers have a sensitivity of 86, particularly if the processing from the head unit cant control for the difference. The other issue is magnet width. Sometimes the new speaker may fit based on height, but the magnet is too wide. As for NVX, they are pretty good replacement speakers. I install them quite often because they are well made relative to other speakers at their price point, and have a basic crossover. Their sensitivity is at a safe spot that tends to play nicely with other speakers. Other more costly speakers like the hertz are excessively loud. For most people I install either this nvx or a JL audio, which costs 100 dollars more. It all depends on the specs of the car. I tend to have several NVX laying around and people can try them at little cost.

Excellent video. I have a 2006 Holden Commodore in Sydney Australia. These are the same as your Pontiac. The cluster is the same. I received a secondhand cluster today for AU$80. Thanks to your video, it looks super easy to put in. I'll do that in a day or two. In regard to a comment below about programming, the Odometer data is stored in the Cluster itself. In later model cars it is stored on the computer. My cluster stopped showing mileage a few years ago, so I had to look for a used cluster with close to the mileage I was giving to the RTA. Otherwise, I would have needed to send my old cluster along with my new (used) cluster to a place where they would copy (or reprogram) the Odometer readings over.

How do I enable tap shift? Been dying to use it ever since I got my caprice. Came with the 9c3/g8 console but never had it enabled.

Do you have the +- sport shift functional? I have the 9c3 center console aswell but the sport shift is not functional. Was wondering if you knew what to do to fix that? Thanks in advance

How in the heck do you get the parking brake cable unhooked from the cantilever mechanism in the stock console? The slot is intentionally pinched and won't allow the cable to move to the release area without grinding the pinched area away. Grind the pinched area away?
