True magic
Celtic my arse!
Sadly not Michael
Last year Krebs came to my town and I was so happy to go. During the break while selling stuff I asked him "Which of these do you suggest for someone who's a complete fool for the Bothy Band?" He suggested one and I got it and 3 others and gave him the rest as a tip. He went to call me back for the change. But I winked and tilt him "Happy Birthday.". It made me feel so good because I'm so poor and he's so worth it. During the last half of the set he played me a Bothy Band song. Sentimental me cried. Within 2 weeks he announced the reunion. Just to see them together again fills my heart and soul 💙😘 Thank you for this video.
Never having seen them at the height of their fame, I had the pleasure of seeing them play in Belfast in April. They were superb.
Playing from music? Oh dear, don't they know their tunes? No other Irish band or group that I have ever seen would ever descend to playing from written music. Also, a decent bodhran player would help. Not impressed.
I worked for Ceoltas, and all learner musicians were taught to read. It is the quickest way to learn the bones of the tunes. As far as I know all the members of the Chieftains were readers. You do not have to read, but it is a great bonus. You know the old joke, the best way to play the bodhran is with a penknife.
They’re not playing from music and they definitely know their tunes. These are some of the best traditional musicians in the country. It’s been more than forty years since they played together, so I imagine they needed a few prompts and reminders.
One of the first sets i learned on flute over 40 years ago. Must have been out of my mind, but I still play it to this day with joy. Matt set me on the right path.
Always liked the group from moment I first saw them in concert in Liverpool in 1977.
I saw De Danaan and Clannad back in the day, but never the Bothy Band. Please tour Santiago, Spain.
There was a group called 'Toss the feathers ' playing in Manchester in the Eighties. I saw at the 32 Club. Brilliant mix of trad and rock.
They had the right mix of loose organisation leaving space for individual expression. When ever I feel down I put on 'Best of ' and I cheer up. Love to you all
The sound is badly engineered especially the to The Sailor's bonnet at the end. It's like as if the soundman didn't know which musicians were taking the lead. I seen this happen in live situations before. I'm going to see them later on this year and I hope to hear better. It might be the last chance to see and hear the best.
What a great band…we owe them so much……unsure of the title of the second tune?
The Kid on the Mountain always creates that slip jig excitement.
... even more so when all 6 parts are played
The uilleann pipes coming in, is masterful, and gets a yelp outta the audience every time.
Great stuff -thanks Mr Bolton!
Was the camera on the moon.
Only wish they just had Kevin Burke on fiddle and not Paddy Glackin. Looking forward to more shows and possibly a US tour thanks for posting
Lacking and Burke are both playing
GLACKIN sorry!
well, they look older and not as easy to recognize......like the rest of us who recall those days, eh?
What’s wrong with having Paddy there?
Still untouchable.
Without these guys Irish music today would sound completely different. It strikes me that all their tunes have become classics. What an amazing world we live in, to see this band reunited.
And all their recorded sets have become standards!
I completely agree, you have good taste!
Wow. My favourite Bothies tune!
Thank you sooo much from someone who won't be able to see them in real. Ultimate legends! Who is that in Micheal's place?
It's Sean Og Graham.
@@mariesprayberry4139 Thank you!
❤️👌🎶💯
Great and inspirational- and their 70s clip.of The Kesh Jig with Matt Molloy still sends shivers down the spine,so liquid.
Who s the guitar player on the right ? Is it Micheàl o Domhnail?
Sadly, Micheal died in 2006. Sean Og Graham is sitting in for him on guitar.
Why is the recording quality so piss poor? Audience sounds better than the performance.
Because it’s someone obviously at the concert for their own enjoyment and not to produce a high quality recording?
The cameraman mustn't have received your subscription to buy that better equipment. jfc
I'm listen with a small not expensive head phones, try, the sound is terrific
Because it was recorded on a phone that was not plugged into the sound system!
Because it's free and the first time we've been able to enjoy them this way in so many years! The fact that it's even happening is a miracle itself.
Edgar, thank you more than I can say for posting these videos. They've been thunderbolts of joy in a dark time in my own life.
The first act I ever present was in 1979 in Corvallis Oregon, It was Kevin Burke and Micheal O Domhnaill . They were also the first act I presented in Tucson in the early 1980's.. I have been in touch with Kevin ever since and I knew that this reunion was coming, with Sean taking Micheal's place.... Anyone know who is the second fiddler?
I think Paddy Glackin, but I‘m not 100% sure
@@oliverroy19 You are correct!
This is the tune that made me fall in love with the Bothy Band in the first place---and it's amazing to hear the way it comes out almost 50 years later. Love to all of you: Donal, Triona, Matt, Paddy, Paddy, Kevin, and (for Micheal) Sean. And RIP Micheal and Tommy, as always.
The tunes in this set are all stalwart repertoire in the Manchester Irish music scene, I believe. Beautifully played here by the wonderful Bothy Band. So nice to hear this! 🎶⭐👍
Ar fheabhas, they got it
When is the grand world tour?!? We all need it!
A very long time ago, I borrowed their first l.p. from a friend . I was staggered and since then the Bothy Band has defined my taste for Irish folk. With this reunion things for me have come full circle
Great. News to me it's a set but good to know.
An absolutely wonderful gig.Booked for the Nch in Dublin also
Brilliant on the album, astonishing to hear it live.
Magical
Long live The Bothy Band
Awesome. Does anyone have a setlist?
We have arrived!!!🎉
