To clarify, the verb is usually conjugated using the verb +a (or ha) if the object of the sentence (the thing being cooked or read) is the focus of the command (basaha, lutoa). Some verbs (clean, wash) are conjugated using verb +i (or hi) for the same situation as above (limpyohi, labhi). Those verbs are the exception rather than the rule. Usually verb +i are for "beneficial" focus (for us, for Manny). So if we wanted to say Read "Mom" the book, that would be Basahi si Mama sa libro.

Why is it different? The different is: who is performing the action and who is receiving it. Lutoa ang karne. Cook the meat. The focus is often on the subject. ==> THE MEAT Labhi ang bestida. Wash the dress. The focus is often on the action. ==> WASH

Well I'm up to page 2 now and what a shock. I leaned all the prefixes like a parrot by constant repetition and listening, on page 1. On page 2 there was a contradiction. Ni kaon ko becomes Nagkaon ko kanina if you ate earlier. I asked my wife what up with that? In Digos everyone says Nagkaon ko, nagkaon ko, mo kaon ko. Thank God a thousand times simpler. Learn Bisaya with Pedro is still the best way for me to learn Bisaya in the next 54 months but you better believe I'm gonna check with my wife.

I am going to learn bisaya with Pedro by beating it in t my head. Repetition. I want to be conversational in 4 years.

Just something I am wondering: "og" and without "og" The "og paliti" goes with imperative ((verb)+i ). And it is non-focus " Ayaw og paliti". => don't buy ! The "+i" expresses an imperative of an object. The object is here "sa isda" and it is our focus. ?

Hi Pedro, A very useful topic to grasp. So far I know about it is: "wala" is used when we want to say "not having" or "there is none". "dili" is used when something "is not" happening. Like these examples: Wala mokaon -> didn't eat Dili mokaon -> will not eat So, I think, it shoud be: Wala siya ganahan sa isda. -> He didn't like the fish. Dili siya ganahan sa isda. -> He doesn't like the fish. Wala kami mokaon ang isda nga ilang gipalit didto sa tindahan sa Domingo. -> We didn't eat the fish that they bought at that store on Sunday. Dili kami mokaon ang isda nga ilang gipalit didto sa tindahan sa Domingo. -> We will not eat the fish that they bought at that store on Sunday. Imong mga sugyot?

Just, I would like to hear your opinion on the sentence structure: The normal sentence structure in Cebuano will be this: giluto nimong igsoon kini isda ba, nga iyang gipalit kagahapon? What about this one? niining isda ang imong igsoon giluto ba, nga iyang gipalit kagahapon? Same about this: Nagluto siya og isda, dili manok. This one seems to me the case in this context. Isda ang iyang giluto, dili manok.

Those bottom examples gave me some insight on the prefix "maka" ...so essentially it denotes future tense but with an implied 'can' in front. Makakaon = can eat Makadagan = can run Makatulog = can sleep Is that correct?
