Science & Engineering with Mr. Wagner
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 14 ส.ค. 2013
I'm an 8th-12th grade science teacher passionate about making science relatable and exciting. Through this channel, I'll share creative projects and ideas to inspire fellow science teachers looking to add fresh, engaging content to their curriculum. I draw from my own life experiences-storm chasing, skydiving, auto racing, and sightseeing to name a few - constantly seeking new ways to bring the wonder of the world into my classroom. Lots of content will be dropping in 2025 including videos on all of the 10 projects we completed in the preview video, so stay tuned!
Cereal Box Sorting Challenge
In this STEM building challenge, my students engineered sorting devices to separate a mixture of marbles, beads, coins, and dice-but with a twist. Their entire device had to fit inside a cereal box when closed. Working within Pennsylvania’s new STEELS Science Standards, which emphasize technology, engineering, and evaluating solutions to technical challenges, students designed and built custom filters to tackle the task. Many teams took innovation to the next level, using technology to 3D print precision filters for optimal sorting. This hands-on challenge pushed them to think critically about design constraints, efficiency, and real-world engineering applications.

Solar Sail Construction STEM Challenge
มุมมอง 15921 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this activity, my Earth & Space Science students use everyday materials to construct solar sails for a 3D-printed probe block. The sails slide along a fishing line stretched approximately 10 meters across the room. Using a shop vacuum, students propel their solar sails toward their target: Proxima Centauri. This optimization challenge encourages them to consider the constraints of their desi...
3D Printing a Hertzsprung-Russel Diagram for my Earth & Space Science Class
มุมมอง 58หลายเดือนก่อน
In this activity, my Earth & Space Science students and I designed a Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram for stellar classification. We used different colors to represent the spectral classes of stars and created labels for the diagram's x- and y-axes. Each star is labeled with its common name, surface temperature, and luminosity compared to that of the Sun. We then glued magnets to the back of the sta...
3D Printed Atomic Bonding Activity
มุมมอง 36หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video we take a look at an atomic bonding activity that I created with the help of my students. This activity works great at the middle school level to introduce the concept of atomic bond formation. We made a series of metals and nonmetals and cut out shapes to represent the number of bonds that each atom could form. We designed different connector chips for covalent and ionic bonds, a...
Boat Building Challenge: Prototyping and Redesigning
มุมมอง 184หลายเดือนก่อน
In this classic STEM challenge, students build prototype boats using aluminum foil. They have the chance to refine their designs and reinforce them with common materials. Afterward, they apply what they've learned through their investigation to design and 3D print boats using Tinkercad. Most of my students had no prior experience with Tinkercad, so it was exciting to watch them bring their idea...

3D Printing Projects Preview: Toshiba America Foundation Grant Received!
มุมมอง 4352 หลายเดือนก่อน
This year my classroom was fortunate enough to receive a $1500 grant from the Toshiba America Foundation for the purchase of four 3D printers and filament. I wanted to share some of the highlights of this project as we taught students in grades 8-12 how to use Tinkercad and begin designing on their own. This project reached across all 3 subjects I teach: -8th Grade General Science -Earth & Spac...
The Mount Carmel Area Planetarium: Spitz A3P
มุมมอง 4573 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today we take a look at the Mount Carmel Area Jr./Sr. High School Planetarium, where students can explore the wonders of the universe! Featuring our classic Spitz A3P mechanical projector, this video offers a glimpse into the engaging educational experiences we provide at MCA. The Spitz A3P was designed in the early 1960s and featured in our building when it opened in 1977. It continued to be s...

Shaping the Future: Grant Proposal for Classroom 3d Printers
มุมมอง 9211 หลายเดือนก่อน
Update: We got the grant! My name is Jesse Wagner, and I'm a science educator at the Mount Carmel Area Jr./Sr. High School. Currently we are seeking funds to purchase 3D printers for physical science classes to assist with our engineering design projects. I currently use my personal 3D printer to print pieces to use in class. My goal is to acquire printers for the classroom to handle the volume...

The Monkey and the Hunter Physics Demonstration for under $15. Mr. Wagner's Physics Class
มุมมอง 2573 ปีที่แล้ว
The monkey and the hunter is a popular physics demonstration designed to show that the force of gravity acting on an object is independent of that object’s velocity. Simply put; an object fired horizontally will hit the ground at the same time as an object that is dropped from the same height, ceteris paribus. For my setup I used; 18” of 1.5” PVC 2 adjustable stand clamps 2 magnets as ceiling m...

Pretty swick activity you have the kids doing
Neat!
I don’t know who you are or why this came up on my recommended- but your passion for science is inspiring. What a fun teacher!
Great video!
Awesome video Jesse, I found it very informative and educational. 😊👍
amazing video!! great info ✅
Such a great explanation. MCA is lucky to have you on staff.
Who is the target audience of this video? Why is it on the public internet? TH-cam videos can be "unlisted" such that only people with the link can see them. Otherwise, good luck with your project. I agree 3d printers have reached the point of technical maturity that they have become a tool that 10+ children can start exploring too.
Wow!
You are too underrated and i just subbed
