    thank you! should we keep the tongue in a high position for singing?

    • @singwithmimi
      @singwithmimi 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You’re welcome 🌸 And yes, high tongue position helps to isolate the movements of larynx so that you’re not pressing your larynx down with your tongue. This can make it harder to sing high notes and create tension. If it feels challenging to sing with a high tongue position and it feels like your tongue keeps pulling down it can be a sign of some tension at the root of the tongue. In this case take tongue relaxation manoeuvres into your vocal practice routine 😊🎵

    I feel my larynx quite above normal position, so while swallowing i used to hold larynx tightly so that it doesn't move up🤡 hoping it would benefit me in long but instead it caused pain. What should i do in this case?

    • @singwithmimi
      @singwithmimi 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there, thanks for your question. 🌸Please never do anything that feels uncomfortable in any way. Vocal practice whether silent or with sound is not supposed to hurt or feel uncomfortable 🌸 Larynx naturally rises as we swallow and this is what is supposed to happen. As you swallow your larynx first rises and then comes back down. This is a great way to explore the higher larynx position as it naturally happens as you swallow. Don’t try to force your larynx in any position - if you want to explore larynx positions you can do it using the prompts like swallowing or yawning, you can gently hold your hand on your larynx only to feel what’s happening but don’t force any movement with your hand. What benefit are you hoping for your voice? If you’re looking for a darker tone you can explore lower larynx position simply by yawning or playing with a ghost sound 😊

    hello Mimi and thank you for your videos. I have fairly poor vocal cord adduction and wonder if retraction of the vocal cords will not further compromise the attachment of the true ones. happy new year!

    • @singwithmimi
      @singwithmimi 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Chris, thanks for your comment 🦋 Don’t worry, it won’t affect your true vocal folds at all as these two structures can and should be controlled separately 😊✨ Retracting false vocal folds will only make your sound production more comfortable and open when done correctly. If there’s discomfort in your true vocal folds, this is due to some other issue 🌸 I’d recommend doing SOVT(semi occluded vocal tract exercises like lip trill, straw or ‘ng’ sound) exercises regularly and focus on not pushing too much air out to help with your vocal fold (vocal cord) adduction. 🎵 You can also try producing a single note sound making sure you get a clear tone -> careful with the effort levels on the outcoming air and make sure you don’t hear breath noise right before the sound. If anything you do tickles, scratches or hurts your throat, it is important to stop as something need to change. I’d be happy to do a video about this 👌😊

    Hi Mimi! Thank you for your tips. I have to admit that I had never developed vocation for singing but for the last six years I have been developing calling for singing. I am learning the text of the song by heart and performing it in public. I have already learnt many songs by heart and practicing it at home. But I am singing by phonogram and I want to develop my own voice. Any tips on that? Thumbs up! I appreciate it!

    • @singwithmimi
      @singwithmimi 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, thank you for your comment. 😊I’m sorry for the delay in responding I only now found your comment 🌸 So great to hear you’ve found your singing spark ✨😍 There are so many structures in the vocal tract and the way that we learn to control them affect the sound. I’d suggest being curious with your voice and trying different settings to see if there’s something you like and don’t like. Usually your own voice will shine through as you learn to sing without pushing and constriction. What do you like about your voice at the moment and what makes it unique? What would you like to improve? Focus sensations over sound first. When this is established play with different settings and record your practice to listen back. If you’d like some feedback on your voice feel free to send a little video contact@singwithmimi.com 🌸 I’d be happy to have a listen 🎶
