how to fix popping hardwood floor
มุมมอง 256K7 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a technique to fix popping floors on engineered wood. i.e. Bamboo, press wood and other similar types of flooring.Glue injection system that fixes popping, hollow, and squeaky sounds with engineered hardwood floors that have lost their glue bond on concrete.
I got rid of squeaks by using shims and screwing 2x4's up against the joist with subfloor adhesive on the top and back of the 2x4. The squeaks are gone, but now I have popping. I think I might have hammered the shims in too much, making the subfloor uneven. I would need so much of this epoxy that it would cost a fortune, but I don't know what else to do. I'm going to try some of the squak no more screws first. If that doesn't work, I guess this is my last option. I'm just wondering if I can even use this on my oak floor that's tongue and groove? It's not glued down.
Would this work if you have the padding under the wood floor
Unfortunately no.
Tell that lady to shut up. Trying to learn something here.
How is it so many viewers missed the epoxy closeup? it was centered on screen for a solid 3 seconds. @1:10 3m scotch-weld hardwood epoxy
Maybe the video is too long
@@CromexInspectionsdo you need to add weight to the floor after you apply the epoxy to the hole?
Subfloor?
Concrete, I wouldn't do this on plywood subfloor
@@DanijelAkrap What would you use on a plywood subfloor?
Would this work on nail down engineered hardwood floor that is making popping and cracking sounds
No, with nail down you have to put another nail and cover with putty
@@DanijelAkrap I am assuming that the reason for the snap crackle pop is because the subfloor is not flat enough, so the hardwood is not in full contact with the subfloor. I thought that the procedure shown in the video would help to fill in the low spots of the subfloor and fully support the hardwood. But you don't agree with this thinking?
@@lloydlind6898 no, its technically just adhesive thats why after is injected we always put weight to keep down. In your case, adhesive would go into the cracks of your subfloor. But you are right, you probably have low spots on short distance and thats why makes those noise. Flattening subfloor is most important step in floor installation. Hundreds of floor fails every year because of that
@@DanijelAkrap Thanks for the replies. My new plan is to drive screws into the engineered hardwood from underneath the subfloor. I'll try a small area first and see how it works out.
@@lloydlind6898 be careful, because screws are not flexible like nails.
The floor in my house has a big problem any step I make is noise
Nice very good job
What was the exact name of the "epoxy" you were using? Perhaps next time link all your items.
Does this stop squeaking? I think my house had water damage before and I think thats what causes the hardwood floors to squeak.
No, squeak is happening under tour plywood subfloor
Will this work on a nail down 3/4" oak flooring over a plywood subfloor over a basement?
Nice video man! What’s the name of the glue you’re using? I want to buy the exact same.
Epoxy
Hardwood floors are nice but they seem to be a pain in the ass. If you just had carpet you wouldn’t have to worry about any of this
U are right but hard surface floors are better for health
I have laminate flooring that is causing some of the planks to dip and creak around the joints and cannot take off to create space for expansion. Will this drill and fill with fast setting wood glue work? And would I need to apply weight on top? Thanks
Unfortunately you can't do that with floating floor, you have to take everything apart and level your subfloor
How much does this cost
material is around $100 to $200
some people use wood glue like titebond glue or DriTac glue, what is the advantage of proxy ?
you should never use titebond, because wood adhesive has to be flexible in case wood need to expand
whats the difference between drilling hole on the surface vs edges of the board ? which one is preferred any why
its more esthetic reason, when u drill in edge its easier to hide it
“Static mixer”
I have a similar problem on my bamboo floor, it raised because I didn’t leave enough room for expansion, I have cut the floor back and now just need to glue down the whole edge. Room is about 12’ long, how many injection points should I use
I’ve got a 12” room! I can’t even imagine how hard a 12’ room would be to accomplish 😮!
what if you have padding under the floor? how do you get the glue on both sides of the padding?
then u cant do this method
Method is for glue down wood floors like concrete.
Will this work on oak hardwood floors from the 50s on a raised foundation?
sorry for late respond, it should if is glue down
where to buy the needle?
in any flooring supply store, and I'm not talking about home depot
They’re 1/16” needle like basketball air needle size
I have large areas where my hardwood floors pop and crack. They are only ten years old and the hardwood was installed over a 5/8 inch OSB plywood. What can I do to stop this popping and cracking noises? Any suggestions?
to answer that question I would need more information about your subfloor
How big was the drill bit you used for the hole , very helpful video .
Am curious how much is a job like that?
hourly it needs around 4 hr

I have a wood floor with the pad under it on a concrete floor, in summer its bummy as the wood expands. Can this trick work? should i make sure the foam gets in between the wood and the pad and also between the pad and the concrete floor? the wood is interlocked. thank you!
no, any floating floor you cant glue down with anything, it will get worst. you have to check how flat your floor is. it is a lot of work but I would open that floor and reinstall again with more gap
Why would this happen to the floor? My rental property has the same problem tenants is not telling me what happened to the floor is it soda or water damages?
It can be caused by humidity in the hardwood sometimes its not enough moisture to cause cupping but instead causes this if there is not expansion joints at the walls wood floors are supposed to float to prevent this. You can fix this issue possible with a dehumidifier but it will take about 2 weeks to see a possible difference if that doesn't work you can do what was shown in the video or use special screws that break off the head so you can cover the hole with the wax concealer you could also use nails but use a punch to get it farther into the wood so you can conceal the hole with the wax or plastic product. It can also be caused due to the house settling .Good luck
Damage not damages
Where did you get that epoxy from and how much
prices are different, check any professional flooring supply store near your home
It’s like $75 per kit. It’s a low viscosity epoxy
quick question : i water damaged hardwood floor. can i put weight in center to make the wood stay down. will that fix the problem
You can but it will proably damage the wood best to use a dehumidifer for about 2 week-4 weeks keeping the humidty in the 20%-30% range and it will go back to normal if it is dry season you can just let it dry out but that will take possibly as long as 3-4 months. The video posted is only for squeaking floors unless it got wet and dried and is now squeaking dont do what the video says for cupping in water damaged floors
also it depends if is solid wood or engineered wood
how to fix the same issue but on laminate flooring? if the same approach works, what kind of adhesive should I use?
u should never glue laminate, your floor will be even worst. only way to fix this is to open laminate and or grind high spots or fill low spots with selfleveler. but never glue it because its floating floor and needs to move
awesome. Thanks for this info. I had bought everything from the drill to the glue because initially I thought it was vinyl (just bought a house and have zero experience in these things) But then I hired a contractor who chopped off one side of flooring next to the wall and then pushed the bubble out. It probably expanded because of heat, hope it doesn't contract and look ugly in winter. Thanks again!
I read in more than one place not to drill in the joints between 2 boards.
Chris Stokes well on 10 places u will read not to do it and then on another 5 places u will read that is ok. I personally didn't have any problems ever doing it
If the needle size is 1/8” or larger, then trying to blend the two color board might be a challenge.
Using wax is only for temporary. Hopping it will last for a month
The wood laminate flooring has paper layer between it and the sub-flooring. Seams like this will prevent good adhesion. How do you handle this?
Bruce Nelson you can't do this on floating floor like laminate. U have to open your floor and make some prep on your subfloor. Make sure subfloor is flat in it 3/16" in 10 feet radius
Do you put weight on the floor after injecting the epoxy, so the wood glues to the floor?
David Noble in this case I didn't but if hump would be biger I would
Yes. Heavy Boxes.
