Changed the main battery on the mcu board and it works ! Though I did test the old battery and it seemed fine. Could have been a bad connection.

Wow! What part of Australia are you?
@@justin-dr6sx Melbourne, out west
@@phantomrose1999 yeah ok. im over WA. I Got one to restore
Wow,a great sound from my childhood 😊
Thanks for showing the inner workings of this machine. It's the exact same model I have - bought in 1970, together with the original Toshiba demonstration tape, from a Melbourne city retailer. I haven't operated the machine in at least 20 years (it's stored under the stairs) and until now I've never seen the insides of it. So, thanks for showing. Before I stopped using it, it developed a very 'scratchy' volume control and a laboriously slow fast-forward, but otherwise was ok.
Glad you liked it. Forgot I had this ! 😂
The idling noise does not do it justice, hearing this engine at full noise is something to behold, also watching them de-coking under load The Alfred Hitchcock movie “FRENZY” has a scene with a Commer knocker truck. The movie is worth watching, but here is the scene th-cam.com/video/n7HkTn_tcEM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nEYsl-WwN2GWT4FL
Hi, did you connect the sonotone cartridge directly to the turntable? Or did you use the impedance matching circuits provided bu thw sonotone brand in 1960. Thank you.
@@Ramon-fp8wp it’s a ceramic cartridge so can be used in any system that has a ceramic cartridge. The early valve units used a crystal cartridge but most used a ceramic cartridge.
My dad ran a body shop from the mid 60's to the mid 70's. He had a contract with Wall's Frozen Foods to do accident and corrosion repairs on their fleet of Walkthroughs. I remember playing in them as a kid, Dad was happy with that because he knew where I was and what I was getting up to! Consequently I've always had a soft spot for these big daft lumps. Such a shame there are so few left.
@@paulbennell3313 hope to get this running one day. It’s very rare in Australia.
@@phantomrose1999 They're not exactly common any more here in the U.K. either. There was a time you couldn't move for them, they were almost as common as Transits. Post Office used them, Telephones, Gas board, Electricity board and that's on top of all the smaller operators who had them. That's a lovely engine too, I so hope you get it going.
Me interesa ,cual es el precio y modelo .!!!!!
Just re-visiting again. I think I prefer these Sony R2Rs to the AKAIs of this time, just my opinion. I've seen several over the months for sale here in the UK, but of course I am tempted, but I've enough electronic stuff! ;o)
Very interesting . What type of tapes does it play ?
Any 7 inch tape
@@phantomrose1999 🙏 thank you

Hi, what is cartridge? What is traking force, stylus pressure? Thank you.
The best one is a Sonotone AT9. However they did come with Bsr cartridges c-11, 2.5g -3g is fine for these old units See my other video th-cam.com/video/eVCyjPm9hhM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-yGUl_jF15C3GxQ6
Is this the engine that has opposing pistons?
Yes. Three cylinders and 6 pistons. With giant rocker arms at each end that connects to a single crankshaft. With roots type blower at the front.
Thanks for that. I remember hearing about these engines a long time ago.@@phantomrose1999
@@Rinty145 I have just the engine running on a trailer. Check out my other video
What a crusty beater.
Je vindt er een aantal 😂
i remember fitting a new starter to mine in the late 60`s / early 70`s. Tried to start it, nothing. Checked the fuel lines and they had air in them. That`s weird, but I bled the system and tried again with the same result. I tried it 3 more times with the same result! Then I happened to look down the next time and the fan was going round the wrong way1 They had sent us a left handed starter.
I loved that truck. 6 speed box and a 2 speed axle, it would do 72 mph.
And you scored a good BSR turntable, which are ease to work on.
It runs on 5x D size batteries !
Hermoso Sony 3 en 1. 👍👍🇨🇱
👍 I thought U were Gunna say the front wheel needed balanceing lol
Seek more information to use that machine. I have one of that machine and I love it. It's not a toy. Set your settings right . Pure argon is for tig especially
Is this for sale?
No. I quite like it. Will power it up on day as it does work.
Christmas 1984
Just HOW slow is that tickover?
The attenuator works in all the bands? Mine only in medium wave ?..
I had one, it took a ton of batteries, and was kind of slow, but I loved it.
Wanted one as a kid, had to wait a few decades to get one. Ha
4c's & 9v in the jeep and 6AA in the remote! so unique
@@luigiblaze2 Yes! Seems like everything today is either AA or AAA batteries.
Is it a 1956 model year?
Fantastic to see a TS3 going again. In another video I'd like to see you breath new life into that red W123 beside it
Most likely the switching diodes around the band filter or elsewhere. Never seen that kind of problem. Please update info when you get it sorted.
I checked the IC that drives the band pass diodes. The inputs to the IC from J7 are good. Need to check the diodes again
Changed the main mcu board-battery and it’s good. See my other video
@@phantomrose1999 What a great find! I am struggling with the power supply. Some very strange things happening there...
What is the actual make and engine spec. , for us here in the states ?
It’s made by the Roots group from the UK, The engine is a TS3, 3 cylinder, 6 piston, with a supercharger, 2 stroke diesel
@@phantomrose1999Rootes Group. There was also a TS4 in development when Chrysler took over the Rootes Group, but it was cancelled as it was too efficient and would have taken sales away from Chrysler supplied truck engines then in production. The 7 or so prototypes were supposed to have been destroyed, but at least 2 of them survived and were at the London Science Museum.
That oil is lubricating nothing. Carry on with this nonsense if you wish to destroy the engine.
My oldest cousin had a Commer "Knocker" in the late 1960's and had a long flat tray with a lazy axle, he carted wood for many years in that, I just loved the sound of the motor, he loved that truck and had it for many years. The Commer was common and much liked in Australia back then.
Had lots of these when I grew up as a kid in NZ , years later I drove 2, one was set up with a pull on rubbish skip , the other had big winch to load and unload 5 tonne concrete water tanks up on the Hibiscus coast in NZs North island
Looking forward to driving one.
A Real Classic....❤ Awesome
Bigger knockers than Milena Velba.😂.
You have good listening ears
9TA is the Best ceramic cartridge ever produced. I use one on my component stereo system
Wow..haven't seen these in the UK since the late 70's very early 80's..I remember them as a child. I suppose it survived because of the dry hot climate
Unfortunately he parked it under a tree for over 20 years. Passenger side roof is very rusted
This unit is more powerful than the Sanyo m9994, and how is the sound quality compared ?
Hi again. Will you be replacing all remaining LD3141 ICs? Depending on how many, it might be worth downloading the circuit diagram for the Sanyo chip and building an equivalent, I've done this with another chip - it works. I posted a link before, but it's disappeared, maybe you saw it and delete it, no problem. Just thought it might help. :) This is a very desirable machine, would have cost a bit back then.
There are 4x, one for each channel. Will just buy the chips.
It's no exaggeration when I say - many tens of hours are easily spent on restoring a machine like this.
Yea. Last job is to replace all the Sanyo LD3141 IC’s then It will be perfect. These make noise and have gain issues
Recently I read the service manual, and it appears this was made in 1971!!! Quite a sophisticated servo motor control; not just a motor run capacitor etc.
I would like to have mine repaired Would you be willing to help and be remunerated Thank you
This is only my hobby when I have so spare time. Tks
sanyo mr-x5,Sanyo m9998,which better?
i recognized that song it is Desfinado
Yes indeed !
I have a BSR C-1 it is a very good sounding cartridge
What are you comparing it to ?
@@phantomrose1999 several others that claim to be alot better
My dad had one of these with the TS3 engine. Was converted to a six legger by Yorks. Had a 6 speed with a range change. 12 gears. I've still got the workshop manuals somewhere.
As you said this is a novelty item. I can't imagine using this for genuine entertainment. An interesting gadget anyway!
Working nicely!
