Heading up to Ulugecit Pass, TCDD 56523 and 56098 are doubleheading a coal train, with three-cylinder helper engine 56721 (a former SNCF br44) pushing on the rear end.

Let's go back to the diminutive village of Sazlidere on our time machine one last time. We caught TCDD 45508 bringing in and dropping off empty coal gondolas, and picking up and departing with empty log cars. This traffic supports the network of coal mines in the area.

Turn up your speakers! Double-headed 56098 and 56085 lead a heavy westbound freight train through Ulugeçit pass, with 56129 providing rear-end assistance. A little while later, we see 56129 is returning light back towards Kemalpaşa.

These clips show the dynamic tests of the start sections of overhead catenary at the bottom of the east helix on my layout. The east end of my layout is electrified, and Kemalpaşa station represents an engine change (electric-to-steam or electric-to-diesel) facility similar to Halkalı station in the early-1970s.

Meet at Sazlıdere. 56092 waits at Sazlıdere with an eastbound local passenger train as 56098 arrives with a westbound local goods train. After the arrival of the local freight, the local passenger train departs for Kemalpaşa. We then see the westbound freight work its way west through the Sazlıdere river valley.

Who makes the bridge?
Me. Completely handmade from cut styrene shapes. It is based on a standard bridge designed by the TCDD. There are many examples on the prototype.
Speed lettering and a black widow are not circa 1980 but still a beautiful layout.
Thanks for the info Chris. The term “lash up” which was prevalent in the 70s and 80s clearly applied to the power on this train. I have more material for a 2000s freight on same segment. I hope that will be more accurate for the ESPEE fans.
The Catenary work is incredible! Love It!
And unlike a lot of layouts with catenary, all the proper pantographs are running “raised”! But look carefully, the raised pantographs are rigid and the catenary is actually a few millimeters higher than the pantograph slides. Nice trick, but still incredibly well done!

0:02 1979 yılında hayatımda sadece bir kez görebildiğim bir olayı hatırlattı bana: Soğuk havada herhalde daha iyi akım alabilmek ve buzlanmayı kazıyabilmek için Ankara banliyösünde E 40 005 bu şekilde iki pantografı da (o zaman her ikisi de 1950 mm "büyük" pantograftı) kalkık olarak Hipodrom durağından Sincan yönüne gidiyordu. Merhaba çok güzel emeğinize sağlık. 1982 1995 yılları arasında Diyarbakır Tren istasyonu'da bu buharlı trenlerden çok vardı.Ama çoğunu Oksijen kaynağıyla kesip parçaladılar.Hurdaya verdiler.Oysa Dünya ülkeleri nostaljik seferler düzenliyor. 🙏🙋♂️

Thanks! That was on my previous layout. The wall was simply "wallpapered" with (I believe) Faller background posters - not sure if those are still available for purchase. Then the tops were color-matched with ordinary interior latex wall paint, and painted all the way to the ceiling edge. The goal is to make it so the background does not distract from viewing the foreground and the trains themselves.

Thanks, but I never left. I've been building this new layout for the last 10 years ... at a pace of 5 minutes per day while managing everything else in life. :)
