My experiences with gacha games (Housamo in the past, Dislyte and recently another eidos (18+), pronoment gay furry and LGBT focused titles) has given me this same conclusings from the essay. the gameplay, the auto feature is nice for spending time for other tasks, but it has made them another simulator for gambling and grinding while you do something else on your PC or outside of it. the formula for these games has ran up to the point where it's not refreshing to get into another titles in the gacha genre because you **already know what's in the gameplay loop**. i've been slowly getting into other genres that doesn't feel so stale in gameplay and it has made me rethink on my time spent on such gacha titles. P.S: don't judge me for these games i mentioned, they have hot husbandos okay?

Its weird how people who pull for meta characters that powercreeped old ones act like its pure skill that they deal more dmg. Gacha is sadly p2w, but genshin players think its not for some reason XD

Paying my tax to the birbhotel bellhop Anyways, I also think that one of the things that can make gachas almost not last for long times in my brain is the way the game suddenly slows to a crawl in some cases. Nikke is easily the biggest culprit of this where unless you spent money, for most people the story progression slowed to an absolute crawl due to how little resources you got. When it no longer feels like you're being rewarded for playing the game with more game it can make it harder to want to play game. The content that the game wants you to engage with before you're allowed to make meaningful story progression is often repetitive in a way that isn't satisfying compared to normal RPGs, especially given how standard gameplay often rewards you next to nothing in terms of experience but teases you just enough to make you think you can level up that way.

Loved the video! To kind of expand on the "The game's story never ends" part: I feel like NieR ReiNcarnation's story literally only ended in a good because someone high up the chain had already decided a LONG time before the final act came out that it would be canceled and that gave Yoko Taro and the entire team a chance to come up with something that had an impact to the rest of the series, otherwise they would've kept doing stories much like how Act 2 was mainly focused on a couple of characters within the game. Fantastic video, and can't wait for more!

9:39 There are a couple examples of games that had changing level caps. Fate/GO originally could only level iirc to 90, until they introduced Grailing that let you level units to 100. Then they upped that cap to 120 using a special item that you only get a certain amount of, which is also needed for 5 new passive skills per character. in terms of availible content, they also introduced 90++ nodes that were meant to be a challenge for fully leveled and skilled units, and are really only easy for people who spent lots of money for meta characters.

Amazing Video! That dopamine hits always so hard to let go, even now with Pokemon Pocket I cant help but feel its a money sink with the card dex asking you to complete it (alts and all). And you know, when you work its so hard to NOT spend on the games from time to time, cause its like "5 bucks to get all this! I earned it!" We aren't inmune to propaganda AJAJA. great points birb, that reminds me of a distinction I heard a while back. That there are games that 1) make you feel and 2) make you numb. For me the less I interact with the game's story and mechanics the more numb I feel. Gacha mechanic's pulling and anticipation inherently provides a lot of drama and emotions but it just takes a long time of numbing grind to kinda "reload" your currency (if you're F2P or a low spender). For me it's probably the most healthy and enjoyable to focus on the main story casually, but like you said the dailies and efficient grinding stuff is really compelling and I do unfortunately fall into the Log on, burn stamina, claim dailies, log off cycle. The Fomo just gets to me
