The F 4 Phantom II is and remains the toughest, rawest and most durable fighter and attack ever built. Then came other good aircraft from Mcdolnad Douglas, such as F-15 EAGLE and F/A-18 HORENT, SUPER HORENT. But the F 4 Phantom II is the rawest if you call it a workhorse on the front line in the toughest missions in history. Name another aircraft that has done the same thing, you won't see one. The F 4 Phantom II was the best in its class in warfare.

If you read Col Olds’ biography, he absolutely got the 5th MiG in Vietnam (likely more than 5)…he just didn’t log them and/or let his peers get them, as he heard that the AF was going to rotate him out once he got his 5th.

I'm a general aviation pilot and from my perspective this is a fantastic flying aircraft and that's all that it is. It didn't do any of the jobs that it was supposed to do even well. It just did them kind of good. So, the effectiveness of the plane is zero. Would love to fly one and I'm sure it's one of the greater flying airplanes ever made but it just didn't get the job done. end of story. Only one of its jobs which was to be an air superiority fighter was largely exaggerated by the United States government. A country which I'm a citizen of. The real kill ratio at very very best was 2:1. My dad was an Air Force mechanic in the Vietnam War and explain to me how all the statistics given to us here in the United States are an absolute lie. This was probably the greatest plane ever built that couldn't really do anything

The narrator messed up when comparing the Phantom to the Corsair. In his comparison he called the Corsair the F-8 which was not the correct analogy, the Corsair's numerical and letter issue was the F-4U Corsair. Flown by the the Marines and Navy.

What an absolute iconic bird, she served America proudly from 1960-1996. I had a pilot one time at our local ANG base give me a walk around of the F-4 Phantom II and as a kid I thought it was the coolest thing ever, from that day forward many many years ago it became my all time favorite next to the F-105 Thunderchief.

I was hoping for a reply to this, so I'll reach out once more, and maybe clarify my purpose. I have no interest in telling you that your faith in god is wrong. I'm sure that you have valid reasons for believing what you do, and that's fine. However, there are things you say about non-believers that are simply not true. And I suspect that you don't have the kinds of non-believers in your life who can correct that for you. The same is true for some of your political posts. Basically, over the years, by never allowing comments, you've turned your channel into an echo chamber. I'm offering you the chance to make it better. And I'm offering to do it in private, so you don't even to suffer the slings and arrows of an open comments section. Someone once told me that irons sharpens iron.

At 24:00 Robin Olds is remembered because he wasn't allowed to have his 5th kill. Gen (Then Col.) wanted to stay and fight and lead in Vietnam. Being a West Point Grad Washington told him if he got another kill they'd pull him out of the war. Olds is believed to have between 10 and 12 times he was in line to get a theoretical kill and either let it go or directed a squadron member to take the kill. If Washington had left him alone then the WWII ACE would have theoretically had16 kills in Vietnam. Even if you don't believe that (despite his squadron saying otherwise) he clearly would have had one more for the 5. Seriously, they wanted him out of there so bad they kept changing the rules on him. It got to where he was lying and changing sheets saying he wasn't flying anymore because they gave him a mission cap that once he met he was to return so he stopped recording when he was going out. It is also believed in combat he was forced to make unconfirmed kills and/or gave kills he had to other squadron members.

I'm not understanding that he must have pissed off the rank and file somehow a seasoned fighter pilot at the time was worth his weight in gold and this was a scary situation the consequences of getting shot down was way to real must have been nerve racking every time going up
