This made me GET RID OF MY KLON!
In this video I play through the Angry Rhubarb Paradynamic Overdrive MKII pedal from Redbeard Effects - and compare it to a Tube Screamer, a Vintage Rat and a Klon Centaur.
Like I state multiple times in the video, this pedal isn't a clone of any of the above, but it does an amazing job of impersonating a wide range of different drive sounds!
My clean tone / guitar rig was a Neural DSP Quad Cortex profile I captured of my 1974 Marshall JMP MK2 into a 4x12 cab with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.

Good video but your lighting is too dark
Man the klon setting sounded like a klon with more. I use the klon klones on an already dirty amp as more of a boost and it seems work well. Don’t really like them into clean amps usually. The ghoul screamer sounded awesome like it would really cut though. You just made me want to buy a few pedals and bust out my rat.

you got me on the TS and Klon bit man...but Rat is different...it never went off my pedalboard, doubt it will! Overall, a killer job, keep it up.

Good video. I had a similar thing happen to me in one of those Denmark Street shops as a leftie. I always wanted the red Gibson SG as an owner of a Epi SG which was not the best. I saw an SG in I think Guitarist magazine for 599. Honestly not remembering if it was a standard or a special, but it was a cherry with two humbuckers brand new. But as you say, I'm not sure I knew the difference in those days. I was a student with a part-time job so it took me forever to save that. I went to the store and the guy told me , 'oh no, for left-handed that will be 1000' or 995 something like that. So I didn't end up getting it simply because I didn't have 1000 to spend. a few months later I ended up buying a Gordon Smith SG for 550 or something. In retrospect, the guy was likely trying to overcharge me. I remember you having that SG Special in the early shows, and I always thought you had some type of Marshall Super Lead, I assumed it was Jeff's and you were using it to get the same sound. I could be wrong about that though, I don't remember any of those modern marshalls like the 900. I feel like you moved pretty quickly on to the Randalls and Music Man. Do you still have any of those Music Man? and I believe you were using ESPs for a bit, or maybe I imagined that. Cheers
Brilliant memory, thanks for watching and commenting! Yeh those Denmark Street guys hustled me for sure! I used JCM900s for a while but never a SLP (far too loud and not dirty enough!) Once I was in the USA I got hooked up with Randall & Musicman, it was awesome. Good times! And yes I even moved onto ESPs! I have been around the block a few times haha! My main guitar is my White 93 mex strat that I stuck a diMarzio Fast track bridge pickup in. It too was the only possible pickup available in my tiny local music shop. Think it was used as well.
100% that thing! Mine was a tiny little 'music' counter in the back of a plumbing / general hardware shop. Very bizarre indeed, I think the Hot Rails was the only pickup they had, and it worked out. All part of the journey, amazing really!

Was a good watch that dude. Fender Strat is such an iconic guitar. I was bass first, a cheap explorer bass copy that had the most horrendous neck dive. And then a purple stingray copy haha. Great to riminess for sure man.

@@mikeydemus I’m also very jealous as I could only afford a Yamaha Pacifica 112 in 1994. Solid guitar though, that I traded up for a Patrick Eggle I got in 1996 and still abuse to this day.

first rigs are always a fun one, i had a no name strat copy and a Marshall mg30 combo, still kinda wished id kept that really god awful strat just for sentimental reasons....

Peavey Solid State amps are unescapable.. I started in 2013 and I had a Peavey Backstage 80
Love me some peavey! Never tried the backstage 80 though…
Back then any distortion pedal was immediately and solidly turned up to 11. Then I got the beast that was the Dod FX7. I still remember its distortion and flange setting :)
Up to 11 is the only way to go! Never tried the FX7… had a Korg Toneworks thing I think
