    Good night, I was trying to analyze the porosity of cork in the image j , however I am not getting it. I already used another software but I had to select the pore samples due to the different collerations of them and so the software was able to identify them, however in the imagej i am not able to do so , can you help me?

      Did you find anything , i am trying to find the surface porosity of a concrete block surface but I can't set the scale as we did not put it in image as shown above any work arounds?

      There is not a reference for the method. I suggest making sure that you document all the settings you use in your written procedure. Of particular importance is the circularity and size parameters.

    Hello ! Can you explain ,how to find the maximum and minimum diameter of nano-particles and volumetric content(Vv%) of the nano-particles using image j? Thanks a lot .

      A couple things. You may want to look at my tutorial on measuring porosity and inclusion. ImageJ does not really have a great way of doing what you are asking for maximum and minimum diameters. You need to use the Analyze Particles command, paste the results into Excel, and use the min() and max() functions in Excel to find those values. As for volumetric percent, stereographic projection theory demonstrates that volume percents are roughly equal to the area percent. Assuming you are looking at a nano-particle composite, you can simply use threshold to select the particles and have ImageJ determine the area%. Hope that helps.

    Is there a problem if angle is not 90°? I have ribbons and straight line across specimen is not perpendicular...

      If you have ribbons you probably want to look into measurement methods that are designed for anisotropic samples such as verticle sectioning and cycloid intercept measurements. Check out more info in this book: The Quantitative Description of the Microstructure of Materials.

    The description is a bit deceptive as there was no script used. Another method which could be used would be to use the grids plugin which automatically generates a grid of lines with a small amount of offset. then you can just go through with the multi point selector and count all the grain boundary intercepts. rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/plugins/grid.html
