It's important to point out the time factor in marriage. You cannot marry an elder, and I'm not sure but it may be that you cannot marry AS an elder. So if you want to marry it's important to do that while you're still just an "adult". Even as an elder it is possible to adopt an orphan, though. So even if you cannot get married your family/story may continue. Most important to note is that a normal speed playthrough will keep you as an adult for about four seasons (about 100 days) before becoming an elder. Elders live about two seasons before dying of old age. It is possible to complete the main questline in this one lifetime, though it is a challenge that needs dedication to achieve. On slow aging, this process takes twice as long, making it much easier to complete the game in one lifetime. On fast aging the process takes half as long, making it much harder to establish deep friendships and achieve marriage/children. But it is much more important that you do establish an heir since it will probably take you several lifetimes to complete the game's main questline.
Also, can you marry people that come on the ship?❤
Sadly, no. The ship at the beginning of the game does not have anyone that you can marry. But you can marry new npc's that might join the town later, or even adults who started as children npc's. Plus, there's always the possibility that a married npc might become single through an untimely death from disease or other reasons.
It seems like the bachelors are rowland, jack, and his brother. Bachelorette is rose.
You can marry any npc who is adult (not elder, and not child), and who is not married. Spouses can die, leaving an npc available who was previously married. You can influence this possibility also.
Who are the bachelors and Bachelorettes?
The starting npc's of the village are listed on the wiki. But the default game has disease enabled which can include deadly outbreaks that decimate the town. In those cases, npc's will be replaced by random new characters each weekend. However, disease (along with most other challenges) can be turned off in the options menu if it's not a mechanic you like.

This was helpful but you could have easily condensed this to just a 10 minute video.. You just repeated everything over and over again, when it was understand the first time.
They/them sucks. Even the game knows better than today’s generation 😂😂😂
There's definitely work still to be done with regards to the pronouns, both in game and IRL.
I got William a copper ring & he said yes. So the ring is not the issue, it’s the relationship bar
I have experienced NPCs saying both no and yes to the copper rings. I agree that it's the relationship bar, but in combination with the ring plus how well you know the person (the three traits).
