I’m surprised C&P didn’t make you try to remove this review. Their planners are not of high quality and if anyone has something negative to say about their products they remove you from their FB page. Hence, why you don’t see bad reviews.

The wait time to receive an order even if you're not that far has been ridiculous with C&P. The items were in stock too. As well, once I received the order, the dashboards were quite scratched and I thought this was an adhesive over it, but it was not! This was my first order from them and will be my last. I agree they have captured a large market with the aesthetics linked to tis brand, but customer service and quality is not up to par.

I wish I had found your video sooner. I received my agenda cover this evening and it's so stiff and will not lay flat, Uggh!

I got a thin clear plastic cutting board from the dollar store and cut it to fit the palette. So, it doubles as a mixing area and protects the leather flap from paint.

Moterm added an extra snap and widened their planners, so now there's absolutely zero reasons to go with C&P 😆 I think moterm are far higher quality than the C&P organizer. Just my opinion, I absolutely hate stiffner in the covers of leather planners so that's probably why I hate the C&P so much, I wouldn't spend $20 on it let alone over $100, it's garbage to me and I actually like moterm's covers, I love Gillio the best but when I know I'm going somewhere and its raining or i know that my planner is going to be out and in heavy use and might get some rough wear I throw on my moterm cover and am perfectly happy with it without having to worry I'm going to ruin it by setting it down on a water ring on the table or by carrying it through the rain (I live in Washington state, it rains a LOT here) or something. Gillio for my every day use and moterm when I need something I don't have to worry about getting stuff on or getting wet. The only thing I would change about moterm's covers are the black brand tag and the scratchy lining, but if that bumped up the price I'd forego it. I honestly think of cloth and paper's covers as a scam 😆

My issues might be the exact opposite to yours: the leather seems fine to me, but it's far from "unique," especially for the price. Everybody's looks the same unless you stick stuff on the exterior of the leather itself otherwise ruining the leather. Personally, I've seen high quality actually unique notebooks selling for comparable prices, if not for slightly less or more money. I think more people want that name brand. Little Mountain Bindery and Galen Leathers are excellent examples of quality AND style for about the same price and that's just two off the top of my head because I shop there myself. Kinda like "Beats" headphones. They are overpriced and known bad quality (Don't take my word for it, Google it) but people want that name brand. People in the know, KNOW. Not to say that Travelers Co is bad quality, but def not worth it to people that shop around and compare apples to apples.

Some of my must-have planner accessories are C&P but I am convinced their planners are Aliexpress marked up. It’s a piece of cardboard sewn into cheap leather. $150 is a ridiculous amount of money. I’d rather put that towards a VDS because their leather quality and craftsmanship is incredible!

I like Chic Sparrow but wish they would redesign their TNs . What I mean is that I wish they would have like a front pocket or a back pocket . The cascade is great but for an American brand I feel they are missing out on a wide market .

I think what you're saying about the quality of the TN leathers is a bit contradictory. While leathers are, of course, graded, that doesn't mean that a particular kind of "high quality" leather is the best leather to use for a particular application. For example, it would be ludicrous to use a shell cordovan leather for a TN cover. The TN aesthetic calls for a more rustically tanned and finished leather, and that variation in color and surface textures (both the grain and the flesh side) from cover to cover is by design. It behaves the way the company wants it to because they chose the right leather for their purpose. Personally, I purchased a "high quality" leather TN-style cover from another company, and I hated it. It was too...boring.

Thank you for making this video!! I still have all of my original branded Midori’s in their boxes. Even the airport edition which still was branded as Midori. I do notice how supple the original ones were compared to the new ones that are now branded as Travelers Company. The camel has more of a suede feel, the brown and black one can get smooth but with a matte finish. I’m thinking of buying the leather balm that travelers company offers, to see how the camel would patina. I’ve use different types of hand creams as well as olive oil to soften my leathers TN’s. But it is really depends on ones use. Great video!! I hope in the near future there will be another travelers caravan so that I get to speak to the owner and ask him why has it changed the tanneries or where they are sourcing their leathers. I hope one day they released one in red!

Great collection! I have the exact same Analog Bag you do, as well as a petite canvas bag. Several other products from Baum Kuchen too! Love the philosophy and aesthetic of the shop’s founder (Wakako). Remember… Better to “Buy once, cry once” for lifetime use of a quality product, than perpetuate the excess consumerism/purchases of plastic, cheaply made junk which ends up piling up in our landfills. I will pass these quality, utilitarian items to my kids. Thanks so much for your video!!!

As an owner of many Gillio planners since 2013, I very much appreciate that this video is out there. My experiences with Gillio’s planners have been mixed, and their customer service is generally not the best, for such an expensive product. That part has frequently frustrated me. I do love the Gillio planners I do own, especially my epoca leather ones. I absolutely agree that the linings are most likely NOT leather - they seem like a synthetic, somewhat leather-like material. I have definitely had some Gillios with wonky straps due to misplaced snap hardware. As a lover of gold tone rings (which I buy exclusively now, in any brand) I have a SERIOUS problem with Gillio not offering matching gold hardware. I think it’s inexcusable for their very high price point. Mismatched hardware irritates me so much that like others, I’ve resorted to using metal paint pens on my snaps - which I shouldn’t have to for a planner costing several hundred dollars. The other thing I find inexcusable is Gillio’s blatant censorship of any criticism or public discussion of customers’ issues. They only allow full on positive, cheerleading posts in their social media. It’s tiresome and breeds distrust. If they would publicly address concerns on a regular basis, I think that would build up a lot more customer trust and loyalty. Although I do enjoy my current collection of 5 Gillio Compagnas, I have stopped buying more. In fact, I may sell off a couple. I don’t have the need to have a really large collection.

I would love to learn of leather planner companies who are vocal (and confidently) about supporting black lives. As a new Chic Sparrow customer who is black/mixed, I am really sad to learn that they took back their statement. That hurts. I was really hoping I wouldn’t find something like this out - but at the same time I’m not surprised. I’m currently waiting on a new planner from them. Ugh. 💔 Thanks for your honest review.

How would you compare this to Filofax Finsbury?

When I ordered my first Chic Sparrow, it was a Creme Black Beauty-Classic, Personal size and....i feel that the edges weren't burnished enough or something like that bcuz it had a lot of "threads" or "bits of leather fraying all around it". I was surprised to see that bcuz I know they usually have clean, straight and they always look well finished online in their shop. I never told them about it bcuz I doubt they could do anything about it lol and I wasn't in-love with my very first Chic Sparrow (I was actually a little bit disappointed with how it looked). I was also scared to trim it at first, then after I heard leather doesn't "run" like nylon stockings and one day I trimmed it finally. It was bothering me for a long time lol. I still feel like it needs to be burnished but I'm not sure how to do it plus I don't wanna do it myself bcuz whats the point in buying the supplies if I'm only going to use them once? I don't know how to do it properly anyways lol. I also never realized that their elastic are tighter then other. I have only Chic Sparrow...now I'm thinking about changing them. I also have always thought about why Classics aren't cheaper too bcuz like you said they are not hand cut and less work goes into making them when compared to the Deluxe. I'm glad I watched your video. I almost bought one of these notebooks. Now that I've seen this video I came to the conclusion that the leather is of poor quality. Instead of buying a travelers notebook I'm going to build/create my own notebook (buy exotic leather, cut it into the right dimensions, buy those elastic straps and punch some holes into the leather; done). To me it's crazy that they're charging this much for a piece of leather of said quality.

I've gone on many a salty, expletive-filled rants about various ridiculous marketing pitches and am extremely impressed you were able to put it all so diplomatically.
