why did Kawasaki quit making the rotary valve motor and go to the piston port design?
They went to piston port induction when the went to the three cylinder inline layout for their street two strokes. A rotary valve triple would have been awkward and overly bulky. While the triple configuration made sense for their 500 and 750 two strokes, I think it would have been better to stick with the the old A7 twin instead of the newer S2 triple, when it came to a 350. As I recall the rotary valve twin was faster. But the triple was able to bask in the reflected glory of its bigger brothers and the 250-350 class of bikes was no longer as competitive when it came to performance as it had been a few years earlier.
@@shwesq my brother rode a a7 in 1970. He said it was the hardest accelerating bike that he even rode!!!!!!
My dad drove this bike when he was young.
the versys IS an adventure bike and is MORE than capable . love the video. dont like people saying the versys is not built for this . IT IS ..
Great vid, but get rid of that hideous music in the background,,, please
Bon cette video ne présente pas un grand intérêt. surement une bonne balade en moto mais pas de quoi faire une vidéo sympa. L'Irlande est surement un très beau pays et il y a de quoi faire de belles vidéos salut à tous
Thanks for sharing the experience Liam and Bill. I have really enjoyed watching this on board view.
Great video, great countryside, the bike seemed to cope very well, also well rode! What tyres are you on and how's it handle?
Thank you for your comment. The tyres are Avon Distanzia 160/60 R17. The weather in Ireland is mainly wet so we have to learn to handle the conditions on any bike. Thanks again
I like the Versys, not really designed for that sort of stuff though...
Hi, would you be able to share the route? I would love to ride that next year.
This is an excellent vid. Looks like the Kawasaki KDX was the most popular then. Great seeing a video with real square headlights.! Ah, takes me back to the Yam IT, Suz PE.....those were the days. Four strokes too. Excellent video.!!!!
As a Versys owner just wondering what tires you are using. Also wondering about suspension adjustments. Did you leave preload and rebound damping in the stock positions or did you tweak for the rougher terrain?
Hi, Thank's for your comment. I would think Tomtom might do a bracket for the Versys...Best of luck Liam
hi nice vid just bought my own versys the other day that gps bracket you have do u think a tomtom rider would fit thanks
I had one and you bottom that suspension the whole time and the tail is going everywhere like a snake...it's just terrible going off road in that. I bought a Dr650 and am happy as hell. I miss the highway speeds though.
I had one of these , KAWASAKI advertised these as producing 42 hp at the rear wheel. KAWASAKI also claimed they would turn a 12.04 in the quarter, and they WOULD, MINE was radically ported and the rotory valves cut with chambers, I only wieghed 105 lbs at the time, the bike did not even know I was there, I was turning mid 11s in the quarter. very few people really knew anything about KAWASAKIs at the time. I truly loved kicking the shit out of the super cars then, and 90% of the bikes,
I know what you mean, I had one way back when too, the meanest fastest bike I ever rode then or since - and the most dangerous. I can't imagine why this guy doesn't turn the tap and get into the power band, they are sensational engines and he doesn't show it.
The 1967 and '68 A7s only claimed 40.5 bhp as they had only 26mm carbs, different pipes (internally) and, possibly, slightly less aggressive transfer port timing than the 1969-71 variety, which had CDI, 28mm carbs, different pipes, etc and claimed 42 bhp.
Nice video bro!! Subcribe u already! Subscribe me back ;)
Constant crappy electro dance music in the background makes this unwatchable for me, sorry.
Not when its classic Glendalough enduro
Great Clip. Upload more if you have them good to see the old events.
You shouldn't upload single videos longer than 10 minutes. Typically people watch youtube videos for a quick fix, watching one video then moving to the next. When met with a 50 minute video, people will typically just move on straight away
Hi Thelby, thank you for your comments. Your correct the Versys would not be the ideal off road bike but I love it. The spin you looked at was part of a 450km run. I only used 1 tank of fuel. I bring my son with me on allot of off road spins so he can do the camera work. I use Avon Distanzia tyres and the rest is knowing your limits. Regards Liam
Awe, heck! You have a part 3, very cool!
Very nice pig trails you guys went down. Some of them looked kind of rough, but the Versys seem to take well and with 2 riders. How many tanks of gas did you use and how many Kilometers in all did you ride? If you don't mind me asking. Again, Nice Video and Beautiful Landscape.
Enjoyed the video, ive got a 2010 Mk2 versys, there a great bike, not sure i would take it off road though lol
Hi, Thank's for your inquiry. The Barkbashers you asked about on this bike are made by "Barkbusters" that's the brand name you need. Regards Liam Stapleton
is the rear seat comfortable for long trips?
Hi Michael Thanks for your comments. The editing software is Pinnacle Studio 15. Regards Liam Stapleton
Good video Liam. What video editing software do you use?
Dont think the bike will ever recover think all the body work has loosened up never to tighen again!!
Hi Chris You need to look at video again, It's Bill who's losing it!. Yes you did really well on a road bike.
hey whats that comment at nine minutes. Think bad road conditions might be getting to Chris! By the way mention that Chris had route on his gps which is a Nokia 6110 mobile phone as advertised by Boorman & McGregor for first series. Not bad for a mobile considering type of route. I love when gps says "now follow the road" and you are looking at a track and wondering - where is the road!!
Big thank you to Bill and his right arm. Enjoyed that if I had realised that we were being filmed I would have gone a bit faster! Ha Ha. Not bad for a sports bike with low bars and road tyres!
Nervous? He was the only one who was nervous on this spin! (I'm the son) ^^
Thank you very much for your kind comments. I'm working on some new stuff that I hope to upload very soon. Regards Liam Stapleton
