Paul Ham in conversation with Andrew Fowler
The Soul is much more than a mesmerizing narrative and uniquely accessible way of explaining the human story. It transforms our understanding of how history works. It persuasively demonstrates that the beliefs of the soul/mind are the engines of human history.
On Thursday 22nd August at The Royal Oak, Balmain, we hosted Paul Ham in conversation with Andrew Fowler.
Signed copies of The Soul are available for purchase both instore and online.

    I just finished this book and loved it. A very very interesting ‘ride’ I loved the premise of the book and the austere setting. The reflections and outpouring of childhood memories 56:27 and the context of returning to where the narrative and the narrator’s life began. It was such a treat. A real ‘slowburn’, a meditation almost. A lot of compassion and forgiveness reflected in this book. ❤

    If Australia has 20million vehicles and buildings that are connected to the existing national electric transmission grid. Then the collection or generation of electricity is AT THE 20million ends of the grid with as little as 6.6kw rooftop solar PV, 33m2. 660Gwh daily. With 20million EVs parked 23hrs every day and with a daily drive of only 7kwh from a 100kwh battery, the storage resource is 2,000gWh daily. The grid can be UNLOADED from the daily transmission of electricity to the 20million ends of the existing national grid. 5 times bigger national grid capacity is stupendously expensive. Transmission is 66% of todays electricity costs, and the grid is fragile. The grid is so expensive that it is limited in size to engineering minimums, because of costs of construction. 5times bigger is insanely bigger than central generation construction costs. Hello, hello anyone home hello 👋

  • @stephenbrickwood1602
    @stephenbrickwood1602 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The grid infrastructure makes up 66% of electricity costs. Future electricity demand will be a 5times increase. If central generation, then its grid capacity has to also be increased 5times. The grid is extremely expensive and so it is fragile. Expensive grid means distant renewable are not viable economically. Expensive grids means central generation is not expandable economically. Any electricity generation increase that does not need complete grid expansion is the only economical possibility. Or minimum expansion.

    I have "gifted" Bruce's book to several people. I really wish more Americans would educate themselves on the dangers of a potential Trumpf presidency and how wonderful a Westminster system is vis a vis the highly vulnerable US system. As I write this book, this Dual American-Canadian citizen is currently in his preferred Canada and the stress levels are much lower than they would be Stateside. Bruce: I hope to God more Americans get your message, along with messages from other prominent like-minded people, because it really would be a sad day for (most of) the world if the USA goes the Fascist route.

    I found Stoic philosophy more than 30 years ago. It's carried me through the most difficult times in my life, and once literally saved my life when an emotional crisis nearly got the the best of me. A couple of days ago, I stumbled on Brigid's op-ed in the Guardian and was so impressed with what I read there that I immediately got a digital copy of her book. I'm halfway through and enjoying it immensely. What strikes me about it is that the subject matter is presented in the most accessible and genuine way - personal experience and honest thoughts throughout the process. The author makes no pretense of being any sort of an authority or self-help guru. She rather explicitly admits that it's something she'd had some previous knowledge of and eventually put into deliberate practice and here's what she came away with. It's a terrific introduction for those unfamiliar with Stoicism, and I gotta say, I think that anyone who is familiar with the philosophy will find Brigid's book to be a breath of fresh air. I was as cynical as anyone could be when I clicked on the op-ed and here I am. Don't let cynicism get in your way. Buy this book!

    Fact 1: Remove the Earth’s atmosphere or even just the GreenHouse Gases and the Earth becomes much like the Moon, no water vapor or clouds, no ice or snow, no oceans, no vegetation, no 30% albedo becoming a barren rock ball, hot^3 (400 K) on the lit side, cold^3 (100 K) on the dark. At our distance from the Sun space is hot (394 K) not cold (5 K). That’s NOT what the Radiative GreenHouse Effect theory says. EVIDENCE: RGHE theory “288 K w - 255 K w/o = a 33 C colder ice ball Earth” 255 K assumes w/o keeps 30% albedo, an assumption akin to criminal fraud. Nikolov “Airless Celestial Bodies” Kramm “Moon as test bed for Earth” UCLA Diviner lunar mission data Int’l Space Station HVAC design for lit side of 250 F. (ISS web site) Astronaut backpack life support w/ AC and cool water tubing underwear. (Space Discovery Center) Fact 2: The GHGs require “extra” energy upwelling from a surface radiating as a black body. EVIDENCE: According to the K-T atmospheric power flux balance, numerous clones and SURFRAD the GHGs must absorb an “extra” 396/333/63 W/m^2 LWIR energy upwelling from the surface allegedly radiating as a black body. These graphics contain egregious arithmetic and thermodynamic errors. See th-cam.com/video/0Jijw7-YG-U/w-d-xo.html Fact 3: Because of the significant non-radiative, i.e. kinetic, heat transfer processes of the contiguous participating atmospheric molecules the surface cannot upwell “extra” energy as a black body. EVIDENCE: As demonstrated by experiment, the gold standard of classical science. For the experimental write up see: principia-scientific.org/debunking-the-greenhouse-gas-theory-with-a-boiling-water-pot/ CONCLUSION: No RGHE, no GHG warming, no CAGW or mankind/CO2 driven climate change.

    I sympathised with Raby’s position until I read Silent Invasion by Clive Hamilton. I highly recommend it. If the price of doing business with China involves the compromising of our democratic values and our sovereignty, then I for one don’t want to pay it. The CCP is a Leninist one-party state that relentlessly seeks to undermine any and all opposition to it both at home and abroad. And they just angrily threatened us with nuclear annihilation for daring to seek nuclear powered subs. We have been asleep and under the spell of Chinese dollars.
