The Plum Island Horror Board Game | Playthrough (Days 2 & 3)
Watch the second half (Days 2 & 3) of our playthrough of The Plum Island Horror, the cooperative board game published by @GMTGames
The Plum Island Horror is a 1 to 4 player game featuring cooperative play that combines tactical-level unit management with a tower-defense style survival mechanic. Each player will control one of six unique factions which represent the various groups that populate Plum Island. Each of these Factions has its own strengths and weaknesses, and the system encourages you to optimize for the group’s strengths and marginalize its weaknesses. Players must coordinate with one another, and the resulting synergy will hopefully be enough to successfully evacuate a city under siege and contain the horrific outbreak that threatens to spread beyond the island itself. If the players can succeed, they will win together, and the world will most likely be none the wiser to the averted crisis. If not, they will lose together and share the blame equally for failing humankind.

Cool
wow i want one
Get it!
wait i thought that u can attack unlimited time in ur turn
Only at one territory but you can continue attacking that same one.
Thanks!
always heard this game took an entire day to play... very intimidating for a beginner, but then this version came out and it said "1-3 hours" thanks for sharing! I wondered how it played with less than the full number of players though
@@HeroQuestFans We had a blast. I think any player count with a fun group would work great.
Why don't u use the destinated places for the different Decks?
Good question. Because the stacks are so tall, number one they tend to slip and slide with the sleeves on them. Number two, the height of the stacks potentially could block the viewers’ vision of what was on the player’s mat.
If I were attacking with the 3 intercepters, I would have retreated after destroying the first ancient. Next turn I would attack again, and get the missile barrage all over again. I also would have gained 4 reputation tile draws keeping two, for two battles where I destroyed one ancient each. Continuing the attack with the lone intercepter (rolling 1 die needing a 6 to hit) vs. one ancient (rolling 2 dice needing a 5 or 6 to hit) AND where the ancient needs 2 hits to kill, was just silly. Also, your intercepter blueprint had an initiative of 3 so your ships should have fired first at the start of normal combat.
Thanks for watching AND the advice. And I agree, most of my decisions are just silly!
Hell yeah! Love Ms Pac-Man
Thank you for the unboxing, Rob! Really nice to get to see all of the art... truly intriguing stuff! 🖼 My cousins would get a big kick out of this game!
Hard to miss on the art when you use actual art (hopefully). But I thought their choices were bold and just right. Excellent components here, and I hope you come across a non-price-gouged copy soon.
Nice playthrough! Thanks for posting this: Modern Art is a game I've had my eye on for ages... I'd love to get a copy of the CMON version! 🖼 Always helpful to watch a playthrough video before pulling the trigger on buying a game! I'd congratulate the winner but I don't want to spoil it for anyone else! 😉
Thanks, Dave! I’ll be sure pass on your congratulations to the winner.
@@fenirob Thanks! 😉
Great playthorough as always, thanks. Looks like a very enjoyable, relaxing game. I'm a fan of these fairly lightweight games and really enjoy your playthroughs of them: Port Royal, 7 Wonders Architects, Trekking Through History amongst my favourites. I play mainly solo so until someone comes up with a Solo variant for Tokaido Duo I can't see my copy getting to the table any time soon 🙁. I got hold of it hoping my partner would want to play, but sadly not - the only game she'll consider is Mandala - great game so I get to play that quite a bit. A couple of games I think you would possibly enjoy (& I would enjoy watching!) are Targi & Sky Team - both very enjoyable Solo, but suspect are even better at the recommended Two. Thanks again.
Thanks for your comments as always. I’ve played Targi with Evil Jeff and it was fine, but didn’t grip me. He’d probably like to get it to the table again, so maybe we will record that one for you. The hilarious thing about all the Tokaido titles is that they make it seem like a peaceful game, but it is all about screwing your opponent along the way.
Thanks for doing this video!! Too many of the others are after action reports or using prototypes where rules were still being fleshed out. Your video really does help me understand the rules. At 31:50 there is a question if a brown dice "hit" by a wagon when rolled against an Indian is a real "hit". In the 2023 living rules in para 12.1.2.1 it does say: "“Wagons Hits do count against Indian attackers". It also shows a wagon rolled brown die "hit" symbol is a hit in "engagement example Part 2". In fact it looks like they may have copied your roll :)
At 9:05 when you first moved your cavalry out of St Louis I think you could have also applied Influenced movement to move 2 Settlers (Brown cubes) for each Cav (blue) unit if you wanted to. That is, unless the card restricted that ability and/or you violate the cube count limit in the regions.
Thanks for watching AND the heads up.
You took way too much corruption!! Just the die hits not the eyes😅
Yup
In two players game, the winner didn’t get bonus points from facedown tiles.
Not sure I'm understanding. Time stamp?
@@fenirobat your first round, he should get only 4 points (instead of 8 points). No bonus points for 2 Players game.
@@squalledd Ahh. Ok. Thanks. 🙏
A bit late to the party but liked and subbed, Fenirob! Thanks for this video, which strenghtens even more my resolve to acquire a copy of the game (along with the SoG expansion, of course). Going to watch part 2 now - if you'd make other videos like these (even in plain solo mode), that would be absolutely (Van) Awesome! Edit: ops, typo.
Ha. Van Awesomeness! Check out Pirates of Maracaibo. It is quickly rising to the top of Pirate games for me.
@@fenirob I'll do it, thanks for the heads-up!!!
If I read my rulebook correctly, you should have 2 Panorama Cards instead of 3. In a 2P game, the Era 2 start player is determined by the sum of the initiative values of both Wonder Cards.
Thanks for the catch. 🙏
@@fenirob I've played it 3P x 2, 4P x 1, and am really looking forward to 2P.
@@jeffus I have only played it a few time at 2p at this point and it was very fun. But I am looking for ward to playing with 3 for sure.
Nice music and playthrough. I own the game's close cousin - Blue Lagoon.
Blue Lagoon is another great one. I definitely will be filming another playthrough of that one.
I tried this in a group and immedeatly bought it, agme that plays 2-6 players (3-6 is where it really shines) is a given hit. Have introduced it to two new groups and so far some 10 new people and everyone liks it. Easy to learn, variable, not to long and I do care about every oves another player take.
Unsurprising! It’s all you say.
Shoutout feni
Absolutely worthless post and video. Why are you debating something that is a basic google search result?
Another game I was ignoring because I thought it would not work at 2p. Another game I bought to play at 2p with my Dad :) Yes, it is random, swingy but still a lot of fun with come-from-behind last minute wins. Thanks for the video :)
It’s the best of Risk.
@@fenirob Certainly has a lot of cool Risk-style mechanics and theme, but my fave Risk ever is Star Wars Risk (Black edition).
@@adityarajivratnam6863 The Force IS strong with that one. I can't argue otherwise.
I got into modern board games with TTR and my Dad and I collected almost all the maps before growing out of it. After playing more games, I just felt TTR was too simple for how long it was. These new TTR city boxes are just the perfect length for a quick game. I liked London the most of all the cities and will be picking it up after watching your playthrough. Thanks for the video :)
@@adityarajivratnam6863 I agree about the length being much more palatable for the mechanics. Thanks for commenting (as you often do) and I hope you have fun with shorter TTR.
I don't know who that guy is but that guitar solo is fire....

Nice!
Looks like fun! I love watching a playthrough like this where the rules are explained as you go. Makes it easier for me to learn the game than a straight rules explanation.
Excellent. Glad it was helpful. Thanks for the kind words.
I hear a protest coming.
Too MUCH protest, I doth protest.
Which card sleeves are you using? And do they fit in the trays? Thanks for your time and answer
They do fit in the tray and I think they are 54x80 size.
This is a great game, an instant favorite. But the wording of the rules is not great.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I haven’t read the rules (I was taught the game) so cannot opine on that. I do agree that the game is very fun to play.
wow now i need this game also
the more i see this game the more i want it...Maracaibo is my #1 game
I can’t wait to play it again.

So funny! Really gets into the role!
That was awesome! Super clear, step by step 🎯I love that I can hear where you were confused about the card wording and got immediately corrected ✅ In particular, because the score would technically be the same with both interpretations. Knowing rules is one thing. Understanding scoring intuitively, fluently, is another. Your video is like seating with an experienced player, just to hear them go over scoring, to avoid beginner’s mistakes. I appreciate it. Sorry you got interrupted! Must be difficult to edit it out 😢 Subscribed.
Thanks for the comments AND the sub. Now you have plenty of opportunities to learn how to be disappointed! 😂
honesty it's hard to follow, but good aesthetic tho
Okay so in the very first round...everyone starts in the seance room correct? So when the hitchhiking ghosts move, no one is getting haunt cards because theyre all safe in the seance room? Could you end your turn in the seance room to be safe when they move the second round, etc?
I honestly cannot remember.

Can a 3rd party play a tactics card (other than troops) to affect either 2 players engaged in war ? For an example player 1 declares war on player 2. They both place troop cards during the troops deployment phase. Then player 3 decides to play an artillery card and targets player 2 destroying two troop cards Did player 3 make a valid move ?
Yes. I believe so.

You're welcome. And I was surprised about how fun it was given the toyish look.
Hey! Have you played tapestry? Do you think it's similar? Thanks!
I have not played Tapestry, sorry.
Like in the Monopoly games, houses and hotels are not played on railroads nor utilities.
We weren’t sure so we just decided to go for it anyway. I agree with your rules interpretation.
Fun playthrough guys but lots of mistakes ! Big one here at the end … you forgot to put the blue dice in the hunt box each time u moved. Those dice are also counted when u draw an eye symbol (not just the two red dice that were in there … would have cost u the game so big changes !
Hmmm. I’ll have to take a look at that.
