Disco Elysium the Final Cut: The Butt of Jokes {3}
Welcome back everyone to my blind Let's Play of Disco Elysium the Final Cut!
Just a lot of fun dialogue choices and places to explore; the dead body in the tree can definitely wait. What's more important is becoming the butt of jokes for our fellow officers back at the precinct. And also some basic exploration, too.

Welcome back everyone to my blind Let's Play of Disco Elysium: the Final Cut! I'm already really loving the writing of this game and the clear inspirations from Dungeons and Dragons. Not to mention the main character is actively conversing with the narrator, too. Very interesting premise that I honestly don't remember playing through before, and I like it! #marcuswolfe #zaum #discoelysium

Welcome everyone to my new Let's Play project, Disco Elysium! As the title suggests, this is going to be my first impressions on the game. i can already see I'm going to like the writing for this game a lot. Welcome everyone to the final episode of Chrono Cross for the PS1! It's always so exciting and bitter-sweet when I get to the end of a series. Fun playthrough so far! Absolutely, this is a game where you shouldn't be afraid of failure because critting or just failing a roll can often have interesting results. Chiming in with my own Encyclopedia voice: a "pennant" is like a small flag, and many hostels do open up the kitchen for guests so they can cook their own simple meals or at least make their own tea. Hostels are usually more social experiences than hotels or motels.

      @MarcusWolfe 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh yeah, you're right! I did figure it looked familiar but just couldn't place my finger on it. And yeah, makes sense there'd be a hostel in this part of town since it's near the docks. Though with how they seem to like policing themselves; I'm sure I'll be in for a good time solving this murder.

    Not sure why this optional boss was created. Guess it's to either flex some muscle or brain power; depends how one chooses to do this battle. Still, feels strange that this even exists.

    • @MarcusWolfe
      @MarcusWolfe 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Honestly, I remember giving up on this as a teenager. Didn't understand the riddles, and I kept getting ground into sand. Which is doubly odd since a rare accessory is locked behind physically beating it.

    • @MarcusWolfe
      @MarcusWolfe 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think lots of people got this ending their first time playing. Considering the attention to detail the player is required to notice to get the true ending; it isn't easy for players who aren't paying full attention to the story.

  • @jakeshepard6503
    @jakeshepard6503 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Wow, that was a lot of information. Optional technically since you don't have to talk to the NPCs. But still, so much in this one area that's practically near end-game. Yeah, the story plot definitely needed to be structured better.

    • @MarcusWolfe
      @MarcusWolfe 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's interesting they plugged so much into this one area. Having studied creative writing in college, I definitely question this decision. I get they were probably going for a big reveal near the end for grander effect; but there just wasn't enough main plot sprinkled throughout the story to be that effective of a punch. At least, that's how I feel about the plot progression.

  • @jakeshepard6503
    @jakeshepard6503 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Oh, this boss... I forgot he even existed! Definitely not first-time player friendly.

    • @MarcusWolfe
      @MarcusWolfe 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, he can be difficult to deal with. I remember my first time being completely overwhelmed by him; and I couldn't leave the island to restock on stuff. Worse yet was I hadn't saved in awhile, so I was stuck either beating him or losing lots of progress.

      Definitely a different style of combat that's a mix of RNG and player input. Really love that you as the player can make the hit but then the character still decides to randomly miss. Takes all the blame away from me in that case.

      Thanks! For the most part, this is my blind interpretation of the story now that I'm playing this again as an adult. Having finished it once as a teenager; I definitely was not thinking about the game's story back then. So it was sort of an eye-opener when I was actually paying attention and noticed quite a few parallels Chrono Cross was making to the real world. Especially with Schala's speech that you get to hear in this true ending.

      I honestly didn't either until replaying this game. Now that I'm not a stupid teen and am actually paying attention to the dialogue and story; it's somewhat easy to understand the context clues. What's probably a major issue in whether or not you fully understand those clues is if you have the Chrono Cross before entering Terra Tower. Which I get since it's optional and not exactly in the most obvious of places.

      Honestly, I haven't played it to completion yet. Maybe someday when I'm not too busy. And I probably won't come back to this as a series. This was when I was first starting out and trying different things. While a fun game, Skyrim and others like it are too much for me to make a series on. That's especially when it's easy to get side-tracked onto sidequests and not do the main stuff for days at a time.

    I'm sure the VA for Daniella had a lot of fun doing this particular scene. That switch from maniacal laughter to jealous crooning back to maniacal; I loved it a lot! And it's really effective for what the game was trying to portray Daniella as. Not overtly scary, but definitely a horror that circumstances had brought her to the point she's at in this moment.

    私の勝手な解釈ですが、「模倣の城」というタイトルや歌詞を見て 誰にも理解されない感情や嗜好を隠し、周囲の「当たり前」という正義に押し潰されて苦しみながら生きている登場人物を想像しました。 自分を理解しようとしてくれない人達や環境から決別したい。 でも、どこかでは繋がっていたいという葛藤。 そして「苦しいだろうけど、どうか生きて」という強いメッセージ。 多様な感性を持つ鬼塚さんもその中の一人だったのかな?

    Interesting how the game hid otherwise useful items behind the boss fights. Though to be fair, it's only recently from this point that we regain the power to steal from enemies after losing Kid a good while ago. In that case, I suppose such items are a reward for being diligent in stealing. Though to be fair, I never used them even after stealing it from the dragons. It's probably good to have for those choice battles with element-heavy fights; but it's generally okay to work through most of the pain with the right characters and enough healing elements.

    It's such a waste we couldn't save Daniella as we saved Debilitas in this game. She has been through so much pain in this castle, even more than Fiona herself. I mean, she has been abused by Lorenzo and Riccardo for who knows how much time, and Fiona didn't even offer her a word of solace :(

    • @MarcusWolfe
      @MarcusWolfe 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Daniella is definitely the most memorable character in this game for me. She's been given life through alchemic means, and yet that life is devoid of basic features that make being a human enjoyable. And I suppose that's where the horror of her character comes from. We as players can't truly understand her desire to feel, and yet we also can't imagine not being able to enjoy even the simple pleasures of life.

    That's actually a fair point; at least this beginning part of the game has Serge and friends be like "We don't care much about nature!" Killing Komodo Pups for their scales; attacking the dwarves without any real reason other than they talked bad to us.

    Oh geez, this place and its puzzles... I get you; it's not a fun part of the game. I guess they were trying to add puzzle elements to the JRPG formula at this time and seeing what worked?

      It kinda fits a bit. I know Final Fantasy 7-9 did have a bit of logic-related progression, though not necessarily the padding that was Fort Dragonia.

    I honestly don't know why they included this part into the game. Apart from potentially one part in the far future, it's a wholly unnecessary side-quest. Especially since I'm sure everyone unequipped the Elements off Kid right after she was hit by Lynx.

      Considering they gave the option right at that moment; I'd be surprised if anyone other than first-time players didn't remove Kid's equipment. Then again, I think doing this side-quest does open up something much later into the game. If so, then it's pretty bad to lock that choice behind whether or not to chase Mel around Guldove at this point.

    Oh wow, talk about close calls! I don't think I've ever seen a boss be beaten by the weakest attack ever!

      I honestly was ready to get my first game over; that's how much I underestimated this battle. Too many fire breaths to the face, and yet Luccia was the last one standing!

    Re-watching this now and taking what you commented; yeah, Serge and the crew aren't exactly the guilt-free protagonists. I mean, killing innocent creatures all for the sake of making jewelry? Sounds like a parallel to the real-world issue of killing animals just for the sake of creating certain fineries.

      Now that I'm older, I'm definitely seeing some slight comparisons to real-world things. Not to mention the sometimes ironic things we do just to fulfill otherwise petty wishes.

      @ryuhoshikawa2214 I never really thought of it that way. I wonder if the developers purposefully made this game with the idea of parallelism with the real world. If so, then it's an interesting choice.

    As a fellow Chinese, this village just screams "Keep Away!"

      Exactly! I think the Japanese also have something similar with the use of talismans against demons. Not in the same execution as the Chinese would do as in smacking an entire cursed area with talismans; but I'd think that Yuri would be a bit sus about it. I guess he just never really had much exposure to his culture past his life as a child.

    Typical gaming logic. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong; even if the game allows for successful heist missions. (AKA the GTA series.)

      At least with GTA, it sometimes can be partially your own fault. In JRPG logic, it's all just plot-related failure.

      Being born in '91, I remember the transition from 2D to 3D gaming. It definitely was a trip for my family when we first got the N64. Both that and the Sony PS really paved the way for gaming as we know it today.

      @@MarcusWolfe I was born in 84. I remember the SNES era and when the first ever Gameboy came out. I think that was in 1989? The jump from 2D to 3D and handheld colored gaming was really amazing!

      I remember my brother getting the Nintendo 64 for the first time. I think it came with Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time as a bundle. Definitely fun times to be a single-digit kid!

    Did you know that Viper Manor is a carry-over from a scrapped game they were developing? It's called Radical Dreamers, and it's with the HD version of Chrono Cross.

    • @MarcusWolfe
      @MarcusWolfe 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh yeah, I did forget about that. I only heard of Radical Dreamers in passing; that it was a scrapped text-style gaming concept. I think parts of the Viper Manor section here are still the same, just tailored more to the overall theme of Chrono Cross.

    Oh, this mini game... Never really liked how unfair the Dragons can be with their timing for food. Even the game admits it's hard with the "99 before dying of heart attack!" comment.
