I just bought your pattern to make this top for my daughter and although I (sorta) know how to crochet, I really really appreciate this tutorial of yours. For example, I didn't know that you should always make your guage at least 50% larger than the actual 4x4 swatch. I've always added an extra 5 or 6 stitches so it lays flat but I have had trouble with things measuring properly. So just this alone is super helpful, but also seeing how you do your work helps so much! I'll send you a picture when we are finished and she's wearing it. (Don't hold your breath as I'm super slow. 😁😁)

same question as the other user since I am new! Another is how do you make the yarn look so full? I'm working on your jebel button up with 100% cotton yarn. I'm working on my guage and the yarn looks slim and really shows any uneven stitches like a sore thumb :/ I'd like to keep the yarn if possible for this project!

Hi, do I understand correctly that you start with even number of stitches and then using one chain as a basis for hdc means you end up with odd numer of stitches to continues with for each row? Thanks!

I have a question about the decreases at the beginning of the row. When you do one decrease, you add the single crochet at the end of the half double crochet, but when you do two, you don't add the single crochet and you also don't skip a stitch to do the next decrease. At the end of the row, you do the decrease, add a single crochet and skip a stitch before you do the next decrease. Why are they different? I just need help, I'm going to use one of your patterns from etsy to make that button up and I don't want to mess up before I make it. Thank you
