Starting Over in your 30s: Going to Art School
Im starting over in my 30s by going back to art school in Japan! Starting over at 34 is really quite frightening. Especially since I've already graduated from art school in the United States. This time I left Korea where I feel like I already started over once before. I've been living there for a long time as an English teacher but now I am starting over again in Japan to go to art vocational school.

    Hi Hannah! I'm totally in the same boat :') I'm also taking art classes as an adult and being really nervous to appear in front of the camera is SO REAL! I struggle with it too. But you're so well spoken and I really enjoyed seeing you on camera so I hope it gives you a bit more confidence to do more of it!! I loved your self portrait too 💛 Looking forward to your next video 🥰

    I’ve a dream of exploring art in Japan 😊. I say exploring as I don’t speak Japanese 😅 I’ve just started an online painting course but I’d love to come to Japan to explore and paint. Ps .. I’m an ex English language teacher also and was in S.Korea 8 years ago and was just telling someone about the spitting the other day 😂 I have to say I’m totally done with the language teaching also. Slowly, slowly I’ve been making changes and I’m mid 40s

      @HannahMorenDraws วันที่ผ่านมา

      Japan really has such a long history of art and craftsmanship. It's been interesting just to see the detail in tiles or in these like monograms I've been seeing on doors, I don't know what they're called. Language teaching can be surprisingly hard and boring at the same time! Unfortunately I am still stuck in the online teaching until I can make enough money on art work in some capacity... The spitting is so odd to me! I remember seeing two cute girls smoking then spitting in a gutter. It wasn't just the grandpas. I think it's important to always keep growing! But it's hard to change or go against the current I guess. There are so many ways to explore Japan :)

      @@HannahMorenDraws Yes I love everything from Japanese ceramics to calligraphy to sewing! Good luck for your course and honestly people really aren't bothered about how people looked. Its something us women self inflict on ourselves unfortunately and it was something that is great about getting older... You learn to care less and it's so freeing so enjoy your art and let that shine in your videos 👍😊

    • @HannahMorenDraws
      @HannahMorenDraws 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for watching! So the program I am in is 2 years. I chose Japan because 1. I speak Japanese (my Korean is not very good.) and 2. Korea doesn't have the same kind of vocational schools like Japan. To my knowledge (and after asking my korean boyfriend) they are more like trade schools - like plumbing, electricity etc... and really the pressure in Korea is to go to university. According to my boyfriend you are kind of looked at as a "loser" for not going to a Uni. Japan has so many different kinds of specialty schools - flower arrangement, voice acting, comic books, tv broadcaster, cooking, and more. The only kind of specialty school I *do* know of in Korea that is unique is they have schools for becoming a flight attendant.

    Hi Hannah! New subscriber here. I relate to this video a lot. Thank you for being so vulnerable and personal in this video. It is quite refreshing in the sea of highly curated and stylized content. It is scary to be vulnerable and put yourself out there but I think in the end it is much more rewarding than hiding yourself and it brings more connection with other people. Congrats on moving to Osaka by yourself and enrolling in design school. It takes a lot of courage to do what you have done. Im also your age, from LA, left my career and went back to local community college to study art so I can relate to some of your thoughts and worries. The way I see it is that if i have a dream it’s a disservice to myself to not take a shot at it. I’ve heard that dying people in their eleventh hour often say they regret the chances not taken. So I’d rather take the chance and fail than not try at all. Also remember that you have the ability to change your mind and your life at any given moment. If you decide the next day that design school in Osaka is not for you that is okay too. I think the most important thing is learning to listen to your heart and not your head and all the anxious thoughts within it. Best of luck to you on your journey!

    Hey viewers & fellow editors - I use premiere pro and I don't know why some clips exported so overexposed. It looked fine in the editing part - it only changed (some) of the clips after exporting. I don't even know what to do to correct this! Any suggestions would be welcome :)

    This was so nice to watch, I love your editing style🫶🏻 I’ve been wanting to try one of those water brushes for watercolors and it looks pretty simple to use! Your drawings are so pretty, you’re really talented😊

    Get really cheap big blank Notebooks and glue your loose sketches into them. Then it's almost like you drew them in a sketchbook and they are easier to flip through and store 😊

      That's a good idea! But i'm a bit scared to glue things down!! It's a commitment, and some of my doodles are drawn on both sides (maybe those should be tossed...)

      @@HannahMorenDraws maybe get a big binder with clear sleeves? Then you don't have to commit but can easily flip through them and have the more organised?😊
