Video shot in a private 200' deep spring fed sink. Just a group of guys trying to maximize their free diving potential while maintaining safe diving practices. Although we all hit our personal bests today, up to 90', we will continue to work hard in the upcoming months to improve. Nolan Surfing

2 weeks ago this board was just an Idea and a piece of foam. Shaped, designed and glassed all in my garage with some help from my buddy Doug. Colors and Logo made specifically for my son Nolan Kelly (NK). Completed just in time for our trip to Panama City Beach for his 10th birthday, these are the first rides ever on this board. This is my daughter Kyla spearfishing. Yes I did pull her fish out of the rocks but the rest is all her. She has no problem holding her breath and getting down where the grouper hide even if that means squeezing half her body under a rock. Music - RetroFuture Clean by Kevin MacLeod @ incompetech.com

Gag Reflex Spearfishing - Cobia
มุมมอง 36310 ปีที่แล้ว
Gag Grouper isn't the only fish we hunt. When they are out of season we have to target different species. At this time of year Cobia is the prime focus. You have to be careful with these big fish as they are very powerful. Music - Undiscovered Oceans by Dan-o@DanoSongs.com
Jenkins Creek Manatees
มุมมอง 32710 ปีที่แล้ว
Just a short video swimming with the manatees near the dock at Jenkins Creek Park. The young calf in this video was very curious and friendly. She hung out with me for over an hour, and made periodic trips back to her mother as if to ask if she could still play with me. One of the only reasons I look forward to cold weather in florida is to spend time with these gentle giants as they congregate...

    I am hookah diver / hull cleaner looking to experiment in this field out of Tarpon Springs. Can you provide any information as to what type of terrain the sponges grow on?

    Is there a reason he spins it before putting it in the bag? Is it like how when foraging for mushrooms you should tap the mushrooms first to release spores for new mushrooms to grow?

    I love that he cuts the sponges in a way that allows them to regrow, that’s awesome! That is why I buy sponges from their business, to make my own sea sponge soaps. They are wonderful ! Thanks for sharing this video. I truly love the sponges and appreciate the owners of the shop, being so earth and sea conscious !! Taking care of and respecting the earth, is truly near and dear to my heart ♥️

    In Tarpon Springs sponges often sell for $20 or $30 and the tourists still buy them but I'm sure they don't use them for cleaning.

      Richard Rodriguez this is a human, walking under water. Not bottom trawl fishing dragging and destroying the ocean. These sponges are harvested in a sustainable way so that they can regrow from their base within 2 to 3 years.

    Why are they sold so cheap? Is their a farm raised version? I figured anything requiring paid divers would be expensive.

    • @briankelly4752
      @briankelly4752 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is not a farm raised version in this area. The sponges harvested here are typically in 10' - 30' depths and diving isn't as complicated as it used to be. The divers use a Hookah Rig which is basically an air compressor with a long hose and a regulator to breath from. This video was shot in about 30 minutes in an area we already scouted. The bag the diver pulled up may have yielded 30-40 quality cut sponges which translates to a pretty good dive.I imagine the price is set according to the market. There is still an abundance of sponges in the gulf because of the practice of cutting to allow for regrowth, and while you may think they are cheap the natural sponge industry is competing against synthetic sponges which are much cheaper. Still, natural wool sponges are tops when it comes to quality, durability and longevity over anything synthetic.

    • @briankelly4752
      @briankelly4752 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      A cut sponge can re-grow to its original size in about two to three years.

    Yo siempre me pregunté del porque en la caricatura de spongebob squarepants existía esta esponja en el mar, si en el mar no existen tal esponjas. Pero hoy mee dado cuenta de que en realidad si existen. xD pero lo que me da risa es que en la vida real algunas mujeres usas esta esponjas en su tiempo de menstruación. Es curioso ver como una caricatura tan inocente tenga otro realismo en la vida real. Oh como se diga. xD jajajajaja! Y los niñ@s aman esta caricatura.
