Weird period for the Manics - coming off the back of their commercial peak between 1996 and 1999, they released a massively confused album that's all over the place and often doesn't play to their strengths. I think they would've happily disappeared back underground in 2001 instead of being so heavily scrutinised and touring the strange album for festival crowds. 2005 they regrouped successfully and now happily turn out albums when they want to, and tour their many many greatest hits. To add to comments below, they do sound flat here and I don't know why. It could be good old fashioned exhaustion.

Saw the Manics first in Cologne in 1993 i guess. Club called Underground. These days they've been powerful like hell!! Richey played the unhearable guitar. Most of their songs after 2000 need keys - unfortunately. Anyway, love the Manics! And hoovering ;-)
