Wild Sheep Are at a Critical Point | North American Model of Wildlife Conservation | Documentary
The majestic Bighorn Sheep, a symbol of North America's wild beauty, is facing an unprecedented crisis. From thriving populations of nearly 2 million to a mere 80,000 today, these iconic animals are under siege from habitat loss, deadly diseases like Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae from domestic livestock, and a critical need for conservation support. This documentary dives deep into the challenges facing Bighorn Sheep and the efforts of the National Bighorn Sheep Center to secure a future for this species.
Join Amanda Verheul, Executive Director of the National Bighorn Sheep Center, as she sheds light on the conservation measures, habitat restoration, and community efforts pivotal to the survival of wild sheep populations. A crucial part of this story is the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation-a set of principles that guides sustainable wildlife management across the continent. By emphasizing science-based practices, public ownership of wildlife, and funding from hunter conservationists, this model has played a significant role in preserving wildlife populations, including bighorns, through initiatives funded by state hunting licenses and special conservation tags.
This film explores the power of collaboration-from local communities to nationwide conservation organizations-in safeguarding these herds for generations to come. Discover the impact of hunter contributions and the surprising role of hunting as a conservation tool in this delicate balance of wildlife preservation.

      I think it really depends on if you have stainless steel components and a sealed reel. This rod and reel setup were on the low end on so I didn't care if it got rusted and beat up but if you are using something high end I would just check and make sure your components won't rust. I also made sure to clean the rod, reel and line after using it in saltwater. I bought saltwater specific line for this as well for very cheap, I think around $40 because I fish freshwater 99% of the time. So to make a long answer short, yes you can, but you may get some rust depending on what rod you have. also the Redington crosswater reels are very cheap and plastic so I just used that with some cheap RIO Mainstream saltwater all purpose line. Hope that helps

    LOVE THE VIDEO BROTHER!! I JUST SHOT MY FIRST DEER EVER, A BIG BUCK!! ive been wanting to try saddle hunting, but all the stuff on the market is so expensive. i watched this on Wednesday October 30th and figured id give it a try for the weekend. Saturday was November 2nd and the rut is in full swing here in Michigan. i found a local shop that had the hawk sticks and hawk platform, and they were willing to price match the midway usa website sale price. i ordered the saddle and ropes from amazon. i had everything in my hands by Friday afternoon for UNDER 200$. ive hunted private land out of ladder stands for years, but ive never been able to punch a tag. once i had the set up at my house, it was time to find a spot. i looked at the map and found a juicy looking area on some public land down the street from me. i figured id give it a try. as soon as i climbed the tree Saturday morning, i had deer everywhere. it was before legal light, so i couldn't see them, but i could hear them in every direction. once the sun came out i had 4 bucks and 7 does throughout the morning, but all at 60 yards. around noon i had a big buck walk out to 20 yards and i dropped him. my first deer ever, after 5 years of hunting. he dressed out to 160lbs. very blessed and fortunate for the harvest, and very thankful i stumbled across your video! 2 of my buddies ordered this same set up yesterday lol

    Absolutely fuck auctioning tags. That kind of pay to play is against the north american model of wildlife management. At least with a raffle your aveage Joe has a chance.

      @AptitudeOutdoors 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would have to agree to an extent, but with hunter numbers being so erratic and with them being on a down trend over time, the funding for wildlife conservation is also on the down slope. If some rich person can pay $500,000 to hunt one animal for some tag he bought at a banquet, and as long as that money is going towards wildlife habitat and conservation it's a better alternative than getting NO money. Raffles are more fair but I doubt they're getting a half million dollars in one go because they are also dependent upon the public deciding whether or not they're going to buy a raffle or whether or not they are going to hunt. Would it be better if some rich people just donated a half million, yes by all means, but that's generally not how it works. If it was a thing where hundreds of tags were being pulled per state that would be one thing, but generally its like, 1 to 5 tags per state which in the bigger picture is negligible. Plus these tags usually go to organizations that are dedicated to wildlife conservation, such as the Wild Sheep Foundation or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation etc where we know the money is used for on the ground conservation. I see your standpoint but at the end of the day there needs to be new and creative ways to fund wildlife conservation because across the board hunting numbers, and hell, numbers of people in the US interested in the outdoors in a civilization growing more and more urbanized, are down and that means less money for wildlife.

    So what I’m hearing is that you want all the deer to hunt for yourselves. You guys aren’t conservationists, your hunters. You’re just making decisions for yourselves. Whereas NRC is making decisions for the actual ecosystem. The ecosystem is more important than how many deer you can kill this season. I’m sure the coyotes will leave you some deer after three months. I’m not anti hunting. It’s just natural resources is not just about hunting. There’s a lot at stake. Don’t be selfish. You Can still hunt.

    i guess i'm getting real old. i was taught there were 83 counties in michigan. so i just counted them and yep i counted 83. as far as this coyote issue i see nothing wrong with closing the season for 3 months. it has been proven that man will kill everything (even people) to try and get rid of them. what harm were the buffalo and passenger pigeon doing. the coyote is part of nature. leave it alone for 3 months.

    Funny how there’s so much outrage about this. All of this public land, all accessible, free hunter safety courses, inexpensive licenses, and a plethora of hunting tools options available….yet, never see anyone out and about, hunting the coyotes in spring, summer, fall or winter. There’s tons of them running around out there. Sure….we see a bunch of TH-cam videos of folks taking them on farms or other private lands, but oddly….especially with all this outrage here, and the talk about management and responsible hunting, and our kids and stuff….never see anyone out there. Not hunting coyotes. Not hunting red squirrels. Not hunting any of the ‘all year’ animals.

    Oregon is a fine example where fewer people have purchased hunting licenses but in particular big game tags as the state has continued to severely restrict the hunting seasons to a few short days. It makes much better sense for the serious hunter to pay more to hunt out of state where their chance of hunting success is much higher. The out of state hunts are much safer as hunting seasons are extended vs. every hunter forced into the woods for a compressed 4 day hunt. The net result is that Oregon Wildlife Management continues to lose funding..It is as though the hard lessons of the past mass deer die-off resultant from over restrictive hunting regulations, could never be repeated.

      In 1920 the white tail deer population in the whole United States was less than 30k. Black bears were almost extinct, Elk was less than 10k, turkeys less than 50k. On ALL of the soil in America, think about that. We had completely hunted out millions of animals, with crappy guns and bows. The white tail deer success is still considered one of the great achievements of wildlife conservation in the world. And it’s all due to managed hunting and conservation.
