    I agree about these qualities of great melodies. “Music was not invented by the composer but found” said Nadia Boulanger. "...the music of Mozart is of such purity and beauty that one feels he merely found it-that it has always existed as part of the inner beauty of the universe waiting to be revealed." said Albert Einstein.

    You can load up the songs into your sample pads bank on the right of the Fantom and then trigger them since they are scenes. You go into scene view I think? I dont quite remembere, there is a tutorial on the roland youtube.

      I’ve never tried - but I believe you should be able to load your own backing tracks into the Tascam (via wave file on the SD card) then record your voice on a separate channel and then mix them into a final mix recording… at least in theory it should work lol! I may play around with it sometime

    Informative video - good info to have. I can apply this to my DP-006. I really wish Tascam would come out with a 16 track version of this unit. Their lineup jumps from 8 tracks (DP-03) to 24 tracks (DP-24) with nothing in between. I can't see ever needing 24 tracks for my personal recording endeavors.

    So glad I came across your video as it's pushed me closer to getting a Tascam DP24SD for my home recording. In this demo you've used 4 tracks (2 x stereo keyboards) but I've read somewhere that although the machine is marketed as 24 track you can only record a maximum of 8 tracks - 8 inputs (4 x stereo keyboards) at a time. If this is the case then with only 8 inputs, how would you access and use the other 16 tracks? Thanks.

    • @DigitalDoxology
      @DigitalDoxology 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@lyntonfairbourne7408 yes, you can record 8 inputs in one pass, but afterwards you can record 8 additional inputs on top of that, and so on without losing quality using virtual tracks. That’s what makes it so helpful. Tracks 13-24 are set up as stereo tracks by the way.

    I just picked up this unit about 2 weeks ago. The manual is not very well written. It would really be nice if one could see the screen in this video. The exact problem the manual has. I got hung up on the stereo tracks cuz it was 🚫 clear how to assign the tracks to the stereo tracks. Also I stumbled on the stereo bus where you don't have to turn none of the faders on which I think is a cool feature.

      Not sure what's happening with your vocals there, check to make sure your second vocal doesn't have some kind of unwanted effect added to it that might be causing that. Question 2 - when you look at your song file you will have a file for each separate track, then you will have the mix file (it will be a .wav file) then if you use the mastering tools to normalize the track - you will see a second .wav file on there as well. The original mix will usually add a letter "Z" in the file name to designate that .wav file as the original mix. If you listen to the two files and compare them - you will hear a difference. Hope this helps you.

      That is strange… never had that happen to me before, when I read the forums here’s what I found. The DP has a setting you can set in the menu that will let it power off after a set time period of non-use unless you have a track triggered (lit up red) to record. I’d check that first- check your AC power adapter and cord next if problem continues. But, I’ve never heard of it coming back on after being shut down 🤨 now, if you’ve checked everything and nothing else seems to be awry- then as long as it doesn’t shut down during use, I would continue using it but observe it as you shut down etc. definitely weird for sure 🧐

    • @DigitalDoxology
      @DigitalDoxology 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My best advice is to go back and double check everything (maybe you've done this already... but here goes anyway) make sure you have the input for track 3 set to the same source input as the guitar is using (I always use H and make sure you have it set on the back for Guitar input - the little orange Guitar light comes on) I also recommend using headphones so you don't get feedback. I have an Ovation acoustic electric that I use and it will feed back if I am using the monitors. Make sure you have the track "triggered" for recording (the red light is on) also double check the black "Trim" knob to make sure it's turned up. I usually set mine about 1/2 way if you go to high the "OL" button will light up showing you have it overloaded. Also, here's another thing - are you trying to hear through headphones, monitor outs or Stereo outs? I use headphones and stereo outs just for my own tastes but Monitor outs will operate a little differently. it you're still having issues - try turning off the effects and see if you can get just the raw guitar coming through. It could be something you have set in the effects area is not allowing the guitar to come into the mix. I hope something here helps, sometimes you just have to try different things and troubleshoot the problem that way - if you are like me, you will suddenly stumble onto something you missed and it starts working for you! Best wishes for a good outcome!

      @@simonm2093 press “mark” at the beginning of the song - then when you get to the end of the song - press “mark” and set out point. Then when you master the track and mix it it should end the mix exactly where you want it. Keep playing with it until you get the sequence. It took me a few times before I got it.

    Got another question (s) for you Dave...it's about the effects. When you hit the "mixer" and that EQ screen comes up, can you use the things in this while you're recording or is this just for the "mastering" stage?. The same question would apply about the "dynamics" and "effects" screen. I put a backing track on trks 1-2. I want to record a lead trk on trks 3-4 and it's only letting me record on track 4. Am I "assigning" wrong? Thank you so much for your help. I've been recording on a Tascam DP03 for many yrs so I have a good, basic understanding of it but even some of the most basic recordings are different. I think the "effects"-type stuff is throwin' me for the biggest loop lol.

    • @DigitalDoxology
      @DigitalDoxology 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can make changes during the recording at any time - but it won’t let you make changes during the mastering process. So, make all your changes before mastering. As far as you second question - check channel 3’s assignment and make sure the button turns red to record in it. Not sure how you’re set up on 3 & 4 I usually have mine set up for left one 3 and right on 4 or something like that 👍

    Hi there! I am grateful to you for this, since I have purchased an older model 2488MkII recently and it operates almost in the same way. There is no SD card but the hard disc and it is compatible with the older windows programmes, but the operating procedures are basicaly similar and therefore I find this video of yours very valuable. Thanks once more!

    My hone studio is similar. Korg Nautilus 61 key and another retro 61 key workstation. Tascam DP32SD. Akai MPC 2000 Studio Plus. HP desktop with Cockos Reaper. I use my Tascam exclusively for tracking midi sequenced music, via SMPTE, and for exclusively tracking vocals. MPC is used as midi sequencer. Processing is done exclusively in Cockos Reaper, via HP desktop.

      I almost got me an Akai Studio a few years ago before I bought the Fantom, they seemed to me almost like a new version of the old Roland MC-500 but with newer features… still thinking about something like that again to add to my setup. Sounds like you got a nice set up, Enjoy! 😉

    Do you have record to apply the comp and eq?

    • @DigitalDoxology
      @DigitalDoxology 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you can apply effects at any time you want, but once you apply them in the final mix, you can’t change them unless you re-record the final mix. Some guys actually use the Dp-24 as a live mixing board for live gigs!

    Hello, I’m having trouble assigning reverb to a channel. I’ve managed to figure out how to send flanger and tremolo etc but for some reason I can’t get reverb to play. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

      Double check to make sure you have activated the reverb effect (pre/post etc) and have it turned up. I had to play around with it on my guitar and vocals several times to figure it out so don’t get frustrated.

      Sorry, just saw this - not sure if I answered it or not already, or you figured it out on your own - the Dp will only allow just so many effects (two I believe) at one time when recording. What I've done, if I want to add some guitar effects, is use say Chorus and Flanger first, then bounce it over to another track and then add the reverb at that time, or if you have an external effects board, just record with that using the effects send or directly in while recording. Hope this helps you out. Best wishes, D

    So no matter what input I'm plugged into with, say a Mic or keyboard, I can assign them to any track right? I record my guitars, electric, acoustic and Bass, all by microphone because the sound is just better. My first recording, I sent a backing track from my computer just to try in out. I've been trying to erase it but it keeps saying it can't. What am I doing wrong? Anyway Dave, this video has helped me, and I'm sure, a LOT of people. I've been a Tascam man for decades. I just "retired my DP-03 8 trk after 12 yrs of faithful service and many, many songs so I have a 1st graders knowledge of the "alphabet" here but it's a big jump. Thanks so much!

    • @DigitalDoxology
      @DigitalDoxology 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, any track you want. The only limiting factor on recording with a microphone vs. direct input (and you probably know this already) is the background sound you pick up when you’re using a microphone. If you have a good soundproof room, acoustically it will help, otherwise you’ll be good to go. Usually I don’t mess with erasing a track, I just record over it to erase, or leave it out of the final mix. Sounds like you got it down, Have fun 🤩

      @@DigitalDoxology Thanks brother, you've been a big, big help to say the least. I've never "mastered" a song in my life yet. I've simply left most of my songs and covers in the "Demo" stage but, the whole point of getting this was so I could give my songs the best I could. I plan to do some of them over properly. I'm sure at some point I'll ask you a few things lol. Take care...and thanks again!

      @@DigitalDoxology Wow...came across something here LOL. I was playing around with the "mixer" and I thought "something just doesn't sound right here" and then I realized the EQ, and other effects, can be used on the input source AND on the tracks themselves. I had my mic plugged into "C" and was using trks 3-4. Once I realized all I had to do was press on the trk button OR the input source button. It was clear. Dave, say you're doing a vocal trk or micing a guitar (I mic all my guitars, elect. & acoustic. I can't get my tone using the onboard stuff) do you use things like the "compression" and other effects "While" you're recording? Thanks buddy! I spent an hour going NUTS last night trying to figure out why I was hearing NOTHING and realized...I didn't have my headphone jack plugged in LOL.

    If I decide to continue recording the tracks for a song other time and I turn it off the recorded pieces stays or if not how I save them for other occasion.

    • @DigitalDoxology
      @DigitalDoxology 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Everything you record (tracks, mix and so on) is automatically saved (on the SD card) the moment you stop recording. Then, If you turn off the unit completely and switch it off or go to another song via the menu etc. then come back to it later, you can pick up right where you left off.
