I Said GOODBYE to Notion For Two Important Reasons
มุมมอง 2.8Kปีที่แล้ว
Notion is a great note taking app, but I have two major concerns about it's security and privacy. So, I've switched to another tool entirely. As much as I love Notion and still do recommend it for non-confidential notes, it's not a tool that I think I'll use for myself for the time being. Don't get me wrong. I do love Notion and what the team behind it has accomplished, but unless or until they...
5 Reasons You Should Buy a MacBook - That ACTUALLY Matter
มุมมอง 363ปีที่แล้ว
If you're in the market for a new laptop, I'd like to give you a few reasons why you might want to consider getting a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air over something else. There are plenty of great laptops on the market, so I don't want this to sound like I'm an Apple-onlyist. I'm not. I have, like, use and recommend both macOS and Windows machines, and there are lots of reasons to go with each. But ...

Back in August of 2022, I bought a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip, 1TB of storage and 16GB of memory. It's my first Apple silicon Mac, and I have to say... wow. I'm impressed. This Apple silicon MacBook Pro has surprised me in several key areas. In this video, I'll explain some ways I've been impressed by my M1 Pro MacBook Pro, and then we'll discuss whether or not you should buy one ...
Logitech MX Keys Mini Keyboard Long Term Review - Ten Months Later

For the past ten months or so, I've been using the Logitech MX Keys Mini keyboard as my main keyboard - especially while at my desk. I like it a lot. It has a lot going for it. But, would I buy it again? And more importantly, should you? Who exactly is this keyboard for? In this video, I cover a few things I really like about this keyboard from Logitech and also a couple of things I don't like ...
Setting Up a Mac? Install THESE Mac Apps on a Fresh macOS Installation

Whether you're setting up a brand new Mac or just reinstalling macOS to get a fresh start, here are the Mac apps that I recommend you install to get started on the right foot. I've talked about some of these apps on this channel previously. But I think they're worth mentioning again. They're good enough that I'll always install them on any new Mac I get - and every time I install or reinstall m...
The Framework Laptop 16 Changes Everything

Is the Setapp Mac App Subscription a Waste of Money? It Might Be For Some.

Setapp is a popular subscription service that gives you access to a library of Mac apps - and iOS apps too, depending on the level of subscription you choose. Best Mic Around $100? - Rode Videomic Go II Unboxing and Test
มุมมอง 127ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I take a look at the Rode Videomic Go II microphone. This microphone is a great option for someone who is looking for a relatively inexpensive way to level up their audio production. It's very easy to set up and sounds decent - despite the fact that the room I'm recording in in NOT sound treated at all. I would recommend the Rode Videomic Go II mic to anyone who wants a microphone...

thanks! was looking for this, some vid recommend clean my mac but I have a trust issue🤔
@@e396hz I’m glad it helped! I like CleanMyMac, but I wouldn’t personally buy it separately. I just use it through SetApp. But this is a free option that does the same thing and works just as well. Thanks for watching!
Apple is trash

Dummy battery might help.
thank for your sharing that info <3
You're welcome! I'm glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
I'm doing research on this right now with the one I have. The overheating is frustrating and I'm not seeing real solutions. Just had it happen after 2hr 45min. with a 1080p 60 fps outputting HDMI to use as a webcam with a DC coupler instead of a battery. My room was somewhat warm so I'm thinking people without the issue are using it in colder environments or Nikon changed something in the camera silently so some of them can run longer. Or there is some difference between USB-C power delivery versus just using a coupler and ac adapter (bad firmware programming on Nikon's part if that's the case).
I would be interested in knowing the manufacture dates of the units that have issues vs those that don't. You could be right. They may have changed something quietly. I couldn't find a solution for mine, though. I tried USB-C power and leaving the battery out even - no luck. I've not had any overheating at all with my Sony A7C, and I've been happy with it overall.
@@spareroomtech Yep, same here. I don't see a date on the camera and can't find any type of serial number database so it would probably be tough to figure it out. Though the one I have is in the USA region (starting in 3) with the rest of the numbers besides zeros in the 17,000 range so maybe it's pretty early.
@@ScottJWaldron If you do figure it out, let me know! I'd be very curious.
I find that the MX Keys mini's keys are harder while the MX Keys has softer keys. I've tried this with multiple ones. Not sure why that is.
That's interesting. I have two of the MX Keys Mini and one of the MX Keys, and they all seem identical to me. When did you get yours? I wonder if it has to do with when they were manufactured or if Logitech has changed something.
I was watching techlore they recommended craft. What are your thoughts on it.
I like what Craft is trying to be, but it has some of the same problems as Notion. On macOS, iPadOS and iOS, you can choose to store your Craft notes in iCloud or in Craft's cloud. It's good that you have the option. On Windows, however, you have no option but to use Craft's storage. I reached out to their support to see if and when external storage would be added to Windows, and at that time, they told me they had no plans to add the feature. That may have changed since, but that pretty much sealed the deal for me. Craft does a lot of things well, and I recommend it to anyone who wants a Notion-like experience with a bit more flexibility. But Obsidian has it beat in the privacy and flexibility departments in my opinion. Great question. Thanks for asking!
These white, blue or red dots are probably hot/dead pixels and were really annoying also for me. Especially that it appeared from the very start of shooting. However "pixel mapping" fixed the problem (Nikon support says it can de executed 2-3 times for better effects). 28 min for 4K 30FPS is the limit for that camera, as docs say.
Yep. You're correct that they are hot/dead pixels. Pixel mapping doesn't remove those. It just makes the camera ignore them, basically. That can happen on any camera (and has on my Sony A7C), but the fact that there was an issue right out of the box was a bit discouraging. And yes, you're correct that the 4K recording limit is ~28 minutes. For me that was extremely limiting. My A7C doesn't have that limit and has been far better for my workflow. Thanks for commenting!
Me encanta el mx Keys mini però 120 dolares me parece demasiado
It's definitely not inexpensive. I agree.
That's why I feel like anyone who has an iPhone 15 is just dumb 😅
There are good reasons for getting the newer model. They might, for example, have upgraded from an 11 or 12 series. Right? And there are good reasons for going from a 13 series to the 15 series if you care about some of the features the latter offers. (USB-C, better cameras, etc) But those who just want an iPhone and don’t care about the latest and greatest specs would do just fine with an older model.
I upgraded from Samsung I’m I dumb?
Or just get a cheaper Android
True. That’s always an option. But for those who do want iOS, that wouldn’t work.
They are all the same damn thing
There are differences and upgrades from year to year. But those upgrades may not matter to everyone. The fact that the overall experience remains the same year to year is actually a good thing. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Thanks💯
I'm glad you found it helpful!
thanks for the recommendation! downloading now! cheers
Love that!
If you only record in Full HD you won't have any overheating issues. I can run my Z30 for 50 minutes or longer without shutting down. I guess there is a issue with 4K overheating on such a small body and I know you prefer it. Reduce the heat by adding an external monitor with a cage, instead of using the LCD. USB-C to connect Z30 with Powerbank external battery can help, or replace batteries with backup batteries right away that are not hot if it overheats removes some heat. There are workarounds. ( or buy a small fan on a stand) As I have not tested with 4K you prefer, not sure if this helps but these are suggestions from other creators. I also own Z5 and use an external 5-inch monitor with a cage and it just keeps working however it has a record limit at 30 minutes, Z30 is much higher in HD. Need to test my new Z30 more though for its limits. Cheers!
To me, even 50 minutes is a frustrating limitation. But I'm glad you have a system that works for you! That's the important thing. Personally, I've been very impressed with the Sony A7C. I can use it for a long time without it shutting down, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks for watching!
A difference I came across, at least in my county, is that larger one came with Logi Bolt dongle to use it via USB or in case you need to to enter BIOS/UEFI. If you need it on the mini you have to buy it separately wich kinda offset the price difference
That is a good distinction! I'll have to check and see if my MX Mini came with a Bolt adapter or not. Good point.
Yeah but it’s not necessarily needed to use on both keyboards. I use the Bluetooth function.
Brother, what's the app name showing CPU speed/temperature on your menu bar?
That's iStat Menus. It's a great app. You can get it through Setapp or on its own. I like it a lot. In this video I'm using the combined menu option which puts just one icon in the menu bar so it doesn't take up too much space. Thanks for commenting!
I'm a Nikon Z30 user. I've been using it for about 4 months. I focus more on videos. The weakness of this camera is that it often gets hot/overheats in 8 - 12 minutes, so the camera often turns itself off. Is it really like that?? and is there a solution???
Yep. That's one big reason I returned mine. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a fix. Some cameras just overheat faster than others. I switched to a Sony A7C and have been happy with it.
It should resist for 28 min in 4K 30FPS.
great video man. subbing, keep it up
Thanks, Anthony!
🤔 I prefer touch ID over Face ID
I wish we had the option for both. I missed Touch ID a lot on my first phone with Face ID. I’m used to it now, but Touch ID was pretty convenient.
Thank you, this was really helpful and affirmed some of the concerns I have with Notion. I’ve switched over to Obsidian for “vault” / storage purposes and now use Notion primarily for systems/planning rituals. It took losing my entire workspace a couple months back for me to finally take my worries seriously 🤦🏻♀️ but the loss was like a blessing in disguise. I’m not very well versed on the ins and outs of cloud security but it seems an important thing to learn if I’m going to invest time into one of these spaces… thanks for sharing your knowledge and perspective!
It's really the same thing for dogs and cats, or consoles and PCs, people have different needs and one thing is not better than another .
True!
Im going to subscibe
Thanks!
Its what u like and prefer i dont care about what phone u use and u shouldnt bully someone if they use a iphone or android i like android but if u like the iphone use the iphone
Exactly.
Spread the word people. Also, i thought that war ended when people with android phones reminded people that apple bitcrunches their photos in iMessage and the newest android phone has a 200 megapixal MOON ZOOM camera
Yep. Some Android phones have been incredible in the camera department. Definitely.
Exactly ❤
People who beef around which is better are absolutely clowns. Imagine getting mad about what device someone’s using. Im an Iphone user and i respect Android users as much as iphone users.
You get it. At the end of the day, it’s just a phone, and no one’s day should be ruined because someone prefers another brand. Thanks for commenting.
As a android user i respect u idc what device u have at the end if the day its just a phone
Bro is going to get super famous one day
Ha. I don’t know about that, but I appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
Nah, iPhones are good but not for that price. And Apple fans need to acknowledge that instead of lashing out at Android users, which is a pathetic way to cope.
Sounds like you missed the point. 👍
Agreed
Just subscribed
Awesome! Thanks!
I left a comment on a different video stating the exact two reasons why I stopped using Notion.
I’m glad others feel the same way. I would feel a lot more comfortable with it if it at least gave us end to end encryption, but that doesn’t seem likely.
Very true, same here :D Notion is nice, but your concerns are real. miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/1*3O1ZmRXCr_1O9LvHMUWsYw.png
Yikes! Bye Notion
The sad thing is, I really LOVE Notion for what it can do. If they would just give us the ability to store our notes in a location WE choose or give us end to end encryption, it would be amazing. But I don't think that will happen. I can dream, though.
no page up and page down is so bad :( and there is no option to add that using the logitech options + with a fn button
Pressing the function key + the up arrow or down arrow = page up or page down. I use it all the time.
@@spareroomtech lfg!!!! Thanks
@@MichelboufYou're welcome!
Good video!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
Base $10/mo subscription limits all your apps usage to only ONE computer. That's pretty stingy, imo. Should be at least 2 computers minimum for that price.
For what you get, I don't think it's unreasonable really. If you have more than one Mac, it's just a few bucks more to get support for up to 4 Macs and 4 iOS devices.
Question - I'm leaning towards the MX Keys Mini (cause of size) but I'm curious does the Mx Keys (full size) allow you to map lets say the number keys to do custom things in different programs? Or are they hard mapped to numbers? What about the other keys that the Mx Keys has that the Mx Keys mini is lacking?
I don't believe you can map the number keys, but you can map many of the function row keys to other apps / functions if you'd like. You can't change the function of the device switching buttons, of course. But many others you can.
My first Mac is also 14-inch M1 MacBook Pro based model. I used it for every thing but especially to video editing. It’s so fast and quiet. The only thing I wished is that I opted for 1TB. I underestimated how much space videos and photos would take up. It’s now my habit to store videos and photos to 500GB SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. Before I bought my Mac, I was also considering Dell XPS. The Apple ecosystem is the deciding factor why I chose iOS over another Windows laptop. I love using Notes in all of my iOS gadgets especially on iPad Pro. I don’t think I will upgrade anytime soon.
Nice! That's a great choice for a first machine. I've been astounded by how quiet it is even when I have lots of power-hungry apps open. It's impressive. That's understandable. Even with the 1TB SSD in mine, I've been using external SSD drives to edit from and store my videos so I don't put any more wear than necessary on my Mac's internal SSD. OWC's Envoy Express drive enclosures are pretty great. I have a couple with a couple of Samsung 980 Pro 2TB drives, and they work great. The Apple ecosystem is definitely a big plus. I like my XPS 17 too, but the build quality definitely isn't the same, I've noticed. And the Mini-LED display on the Mac far outshines the IPS panel on the Dell, even though mine is the UHD+ 3840x2400 model. Notes is excellent indeed. Have you tried Notion? Unfortunately it doesn't have handwriting support, but it's a great cross-platform option that's a bit more robust than Notes even. I'm in the same boat. I don't think I'll upgrade for at least a few more years. Thanks for commenting!
@@spareroomtech what made you choose drive enclosure over portable SSD? Is the former better for long term use? For now, Notes checks all my needs and most importantly it’s free but I do pay iCloud ($1.35) monthly which is worth it. I use Notes and Calendars to track events and lists. There’s no need to use Reminders. I like to keep things simple but my notes need decluttering. Digital clutter is challenging while I try to be a minimalist with other stuff I own. And for video suggestions, I would love to know how things that you currently have have become useful to you like the SSD for Mac. Your experience would give us insights with what might work or not for us. Kudos!
loved your video! I've been debating on whether or not I want to get a MacBook and you sold me! Thank you!! Saving this video for later
Thank you! I’m glad it was helpful!
Thanks. Hope the m series processors will last. At least 5-6 years. But mac is really easy to use and has good basttery life.
I think they should last at least that long. Obviously there are lots of variables to consider there, and I hate the fact that the storage is soldered (and an SSD is a wear part). But I think that for the vast majority of people, an M-series machine should last at least that long. Thanks for commenting!
VRa family here. Thank you for this video I am Looking into buying new computer 😀
Awesome! #VRAFam! I hope the video was helpful. Thanks for commenting.
Excellent video, Michael! Several people have mentioned about the back-light frequently turning off/on after 3 seconds. Have you experienced this issue as well? It would be fantastic if there's a way to keep the back-light constantly on. By the way, I recently got the Mx Master 3s and I'm considering purchasing the MX Keys Mini. I'm hoping they pair seamlessly together and only need a single USB connector (bolt connector?) for both devices
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. Mine does turn off the backlight after three seconds too. I wish there were a way to keep it on all the time, but there's no option for that UNLESS you have it plugged in to power via USB-C. Then it will stay on. Personally, I'd like the option to keep it on all the time even though it would use more battery power. It's not a huge deal for me personally because the backlight does turn back on when your hands move over the keyboard. And yes, you can certainly use both devices with a single bolt connector. I actually am doing just that on my MacBook Pro right now. I do NOT recommend using the MX Master 3S with Bluetooth on a MacBook Pro. In my experience, the Bluetooth polling rate of the MX Master 3S is terrible in macOS. It's a bit better in Windows. So the Bolt receiver is definitely the way to go. To pair the devices to a single receiver, you'll need to download the Logi Bolt App from the Logitech website. Then you can just pair the devices with the receiver of your choice. Does that help? Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll answer what I can. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Greatly appreciate the detailed reply, extremely helpful! Your video influenced me to pull the trigger and order the MX keys mini. Love your quality content

Did you find any better options? considering the outdoor videography too
I went with the Sony A7C. It’s done pretty well for me, though I have a couple of settings I’ll adjust for future videos. I’m not entirely happy with my current settings but that’s a me issue, not a camera issue. I’ve not used it outside yet personally, but I know many people like it. The Sony A7C II should be coming soon, so if you can wait it should be interesting to see what that looks like.
@spareroomtech A7C is far more expensive option. I would expect you suggest something in comparable price or at least close
I may have to get one.
