Hey, what degree do you need to operate one? I live in New England, you know where tornados rarely happen, and I want to operate a DOW, I’m just not sure what degree I would need and if I would need to move to the Midwest to operate one, also I haven’t even graduated from high school yet so I’m in no rush, Thanks for your help! 🙏
@@technopancake85 technically all you need is a driver's license that allows you to drive vehicles up to 26,000 lbs. But a Masters or PhD in Atmospheric Sciences/Meteorology doesn't hurt either 😉
@@joshaikins9783 alright thanks! How did you come about working with the vehicle? are you hired by a certain storm chasing company? Or the NWS? sorry I’m asking so many questions, it’s just that this is the thing I’m most interested in doing after high school
@technopancake85 no problem, glad you're interested in the natural world. I am too. I got my Bachelor's Degree in Meteorology and then went to graduate school to get my PhD in Atmospheric Sciences. When I was in grad school in Colorado, I volunteered with the Center for Severe Weather Research (CSWR), Josh Wurman's company (he created the DOWs), to chase a Hurricane and then tornadoes. This got me experienced with the DOW Facility and eventually I got hired to help with field projects. So volunteer whenever you get a chance!

My only problem is that I’m not good at math and you need to be good at math for meteorology, hell I just went to summer school for algebra 2 this year 😂, just one last question, since tornadoes and hurricanes don’t happen every day (unless I’m serious underestimating how common tornadoes are in the Midwest), what do you do in between days without storms when your not operating the DOW? Do you have other duty’s/jobs to attend too with your company? Thanks! 🙏
I have the annual pass and great place highly recommend it one of the best rides is called the shockwave is kind of like a mini claw 10/10
