this video is great but that abrupt cut to the crow sounds made me laugh harder than it should have.

I’ve been playing bassoon for five years, I’m about to start playing for my college, and I just had my last lesson with my highschool bassoon teacher. He told me I didn’t have enough reed in my mouth. I’m now watching this video and realizing wow holy shit I’ve been doing this wrong for five years. I was muffling the sound by having not enough reed in my mouth and now I’m working on this huge adjustment lol

Was just listening to shorts while doing so chores. I must have been heavily influenced by the classical music because when you pronounced the creature ability I swore you said embouchure and I had to stop what I was doing to figure wtf was going on.

I am a blind person and I have never touched a bassoon before, can you try to describe to me how you would shape your lips to play it? Again, I’ve never touched one before

Ummm i cant get the crowling at all and my embouchiure is not tight at all. I think my double reed hole is too small. Whenever i pinch it to make it the hole better i get the beautiful crowling sound

Any tips for a flute player trying to transfer to bassoon?

I’m a former flute player. The hardest part was not biting down on the reed. The air comes from the same part of the diaphragm.

I only looked at this because I wanted to hear what it sounds like when only the bassoon reed is being played because I have a friend who plays and it’s funny how pathetic it is compared to the full instrument

You aren’t supposed to soak the reed fully, it’s only up to the metal part

I have been playing woodwind instruments for many years and I have started bassoon recently. My issue is that since the right-hand B-flat key doesn't have a key guard it rubs against my leg and mostly prohibits it from opening all the way. Because of this I have to rotate the bassoon away from me to alleviate this. Is that the proper way to solve that issue, or is there more to it?

I am completely new to bassoons. Does bocal choice make that big a difference? I picked up a Schreiber & Sohne bassoon that needed repairs and was without a bocal. When I went to price bocals, I have seen price ranges from $39.00 to $1,900.00.

I have used pipe cleaners for my reeds. I noticed after opening a few of these reeds the pipe cleaner fibers tend to get stuck inside. I once grew so irritated with a very soft sounding mellow reed and ended up opening it to find out the pipe cleaner fibers were muting it.

Could you please translate "air support" and "jaw support" into English? I have a plastic medium to experiment with and I get a thin sound with a lot of air. Or a strangled duck if I'm doing really well...
