I'm trying to install a similar head unit in my forfour passion, it has no steering wheel functions so the SWC adapter isn't necessary, the problem is the head unit has drained my battery a few times and I have no idea how to connect it to ignition power only, how did you manage to get this unit to only work when the cars on? any info is appreciated as I've reinstalled the OEM one so that i can still get to work on time!

Hi, looking at doing a similar thing in my Cupra. Now, all of my knowledge is mechanically, nothing electrically so excuse me here. I’ve been looking into that focal sub and I’m struggling to understand the wiring. What I’m struggling to understand is, do the speakers get the amplified signal? So the audio comes out of the factory amp, goes back to the focal amp/sub to then give the sub a signal. I assume I then have to provide it with power, fine. But does the harness adapter take an amplified signal back to the speakers using the factory wiring?

Whatd u do to hold the chrome trim back on the doorpanel?

What opertune timing. Just about to order a set of these speakers for my MK7 GTI. Could you see any reason the 165mm version wouldnt fit up front? I think the standard speakers are that size from memory.

I like an all-out build just as much as the next guy but it's nice to see you also address basic builds for the everyday man!

Awesome work! One thing I found with working with a flush fit. If I see there is a tiny gap between the trunk carpet and mold AFTER you lay the enclosure carpet down, this is how I work around it. I take a thin strip of (enclosure) carpet, glue it down to the back edge of the enclosure where the gap is. Then I reapply the enclosure carpet over this edge( and yes over this thin strip of carpet. The carpet strip acts like a soft spacer. It will bring up the carpet edge where you need it to be and collapse as needed to fill in the gap. WORKS EVERY TIME!

Hows the midrange response now that the OEM subs are gone? As far as I understand those handle most of that, and if you remove them the system can be quite thin. Are the rest of the speakers in the car upgraded to compensate?

Can you explain how you tuned the isub active subwoofer for this car or in general please? Gain Subsonic - does setting this high reduce the amount of bass in the front/rear speakers Bass Boost Low Pass Filter - does setting this high help make vocals sound more cleaner? Also car would have 3 eq settings mid bass treble - how would this be set?

Recently replaced all the speakers with Focal inside controlled by Audison DSP/AMP + sound deadening ( all doors ), I have 2-way front and rear and I am currently waiting for Focal ISUB, the midbass speakers in the doors play beautifully and give an impressive bass, I decided on a subwoofer to relieve the speakers in the doors a bit so that the mids plays even better. I just hope that the Focal ISUB is a good purchase.

nice video, my Supra has the premium sound system (or whatever it's called) with all the speakers compartments occupied. It doesn't sound that great... With my last two vehicles, GR86 and Lexus NX300, I just added a Rockford Fosgate 12" Loaded/Amped box and it sounded great. The box filled in the missing frequencies, the mids and highs from the factory speakers did fine. With my GR86, I was able to wire tap the factory amp for RCA +/-, then run my own 12V, Ground, then Remote was depending on auto-detect. I then moved this Fosgate box to my Lexus, but I had to use a High-Low converter because I couldnt find any signal-level outputs from HU, but it still sounded fine. Where do I find RCA signals for RL and RR in the Supra?

at 03:13 when you say chemical resistant tape, where you buying that from? When i do a search all i can find is "MIRA Safety Kappler Chemical Resistant Tape" which is £59.99 a roll!!

I am wanting to do something similar in my Ranger for a bass box... space is tight so could I cut the og backing and mask straight onto the metal work? I'd then add some sound matting to the inside of the fibreglass shell to dampen it down? How do you size a sub to an enclosure? obv you want know the cu3 of the box until you make it? How did you secure the box to the car?

Does it need coding like upgrading to genuine 7" version or just plug and play?

I have a Ranger and unless you remove the back seats there is no room for Bass... The Focals are pricey but as you show, solid. Are you using and adapter to catch the speaker output or splicing into the loom?

The old geezers among us will remember the Max Power Citroen Saxo project car (about a quarter of a century ago!) whose ICE install looked kind of similar, fitted around the roll cage.
