30 year old from the UK and the Midlands with a passion for Photography 📸 More specifically Wildlife Photography of Birds and Mammals native to the UK.
I have being doing photography for over 16 years with some pretty bad camera Gear although I wasn't the best photographer myself! It was a terrible picture of a Hawfinch I managed to get that gave me that initial spark for specifically Photography, My late grandfather who I lost when I was 11 was the reason for my love of Birds and in turn all other Wildlife, but he taught me everything I know about birds and have had the interest ever since and have all my old bird books throughout the years.
I am hoping to use this channel to document my amateur adventures and hopefully bring some familiarity of all our own amateur experiences of us trying to improve our skill and gear with the budget we may be on. Thanks for taking time to visit the page. Enjoy the coming content.

Looks like you have had a great holiday, especially coming back with some brilliant images and footage for memories
Yes it was great thanks, have been going there years but never took my camera, least of all on a Kayak! Common Sandpiper are such a cool bird and so Tiny, Thanks for watching 👀
Great video buddy, really enjoyed this !!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Agree with you about the sound of the Curlew. There have been some on Cannock Chase this summer and it was great going early morning hearing the Nightjars, then the Curlews followed by the dawn chorus, magical.
That sounds awesome, I've always wanted to hear/see Nightjars up the Chase, thanks for watching 👀
Guys, I live very near two Peregrines’ territories on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Please remember that in the breeding season you will require a permit to photograph these birds at a nesting site, (it is otherwise illegal). I absolutely am not suggesting that either Lewis or yourselves do, but over zealous photographers, and climbers, frequently and unwittingly cause the Peregrines disturbance which can and has, caused failed breeding. Take care. Thank you.
Thanks for the comment it is very important as you point out that these are Schedule 1 Species and have as little disturbance as possible, These encounters over the cliff top did not disturb the birds in their successful post breeding season and as you'll see from the images the birds were either leaving cliff ledges due to Crows mobbing or to chase a prey item. I will aim to point this out better in my videos as I learn to create more informative videos. Thanks again
Another enjoyable video Lewis, keep it up 🎥👍
Thanks, will do!
Some great ahots Lewis.👍
Thanks John, it's a great location to visit all year round 👍🏻
Another great watch lewis 🎥👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Amazing to see the Reds and so many at once
Absolutely superb footage Lewis, never seen a dipper in real life, hopefully one day 👍
Thanks again John, closest place to the Midlands I can think of is Dovedale, there's loads if you want to see them 😀
@@LewisRound cheers mate, I will deffo have a visit 👍
that was a well put together all round wildlife video. enjoyed watching it. If any of those big stags take a fancy to you, shut your eyes and think of England!!
Thanks for the watch Norm, If I was that close now I'd be brown bread haha 😄
another good vid Lewis. Everywhere is so quiet lately :( . I think i've probably took 50 images over the past 3-4 outings. Heading to the Chase this week hopefully though and hoping my luck will change.
Hope you managed to find some subjects, It does get tricky at this time I try to target seasonal location/events for the time of year ie Slimbridge for wintering waders, Rutting Deer, Bearded Reedlings coming to the grit trays in autumn etc glad you enjoyed the video
Had the pleasure of seeing a Wood Sandpiper this year, but nowhere near this close!
Good video, "I wish birds where like this" 😅 . I know what you mean. Very good.
Thanks for watching and yeah birds are never give you this much time haha 😄
cracking video mate i love watching sandpipers thanks for sharing new sub here
Thanks for watching and the sub!
Lovely video! Will be watching more. Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
Its all starting on the chase with the fallows, plenty of roaring and scent tasting, even the odd clash, love the Kestrel shots.
Hi Andy, I'll have to pop up there then while it's hotting up, not sure of a location best for Rutting up there but I know where I've seen them the rest of the year so worth a look, Thanks for watching 👀 😀
some epic footage Lewis, well done pal, i followed you on instagram and sent you a pm.👍👍
Thanks for watching glad you liked the video 📹 😀
Good time of year the rutting time another good video Lewis 👍🏻👍🏻
It sure is, I'm going to try and catch some roaring Stags and maybe a wrangle too. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂
Hoping to go to Richmond park for the red deer rut
Some stunning photo's Lewis, what a great place 👍👍
Thanks again John, one of my Favourite locations to visit and in any weather too! 😀
Some amazing shots of the Redstart, good video mate 👍👍
Thanks John, they are a stunner of a bird aren't they. Thanks for the Watch 👍🏻
Its a brilliant spot, was there a few years ago and a Peregine was 'riding the wind' at eye level about 15 feet away, guess what, no camera! The steep grassy slope leading down to Branscombe mouth is a superb spot for grass snakes warming up, great video and shots.
Oh wow! That's always the way isn't it but a great view none the less! Ahh ill keep that in mind, would love to get some Snake Photography done on Adders or Grass Snakes 🐍 thanks for watching
I have never seen so many Adders as this year on Cannock Chase (in 40 years), A couple of weeks ago I was walking down to where you filmed the Pied Flycatchers and saw 8 individuals in about 100 metres, once you get your 'eye in' it's amazing how many you spot. There are also plenty of Common Lizards and Slow Works still about.
Needed to be much earlier on that 3rd day - be there at pre dawn. As to shutter speed, 1/4000 is the minimum that I would use for a Peregrine. With today's AI NR software, you should never be afraid of pushing the ISO upwards.
Yeah you're probably right, I had limited time to get out on the cliffs as I was on holiday but next year I'm planning on making more of a dedicated trip for the Peregrines for sure! And yeah I definitely need to push the ISO more, guess I need to trust the kit more, Thanks for watching and the Advice
@@LewisRound I typically shoot BIFs at a minimum of 1/2000 @ f8. For Peregrines, I'd be going at 1/4000 minimum, since they are such a fast bird. Some pros recommend shooting wide open (give it a try) at 1/4000 (Isaac Grant for example). I prefer to stop down to f8 although for me, that means pushing my ISO up by a stop. I use a R3 which is the current ISO king and it's good up to ISO10000 (I have shot some Australian logrunners at ISO25600 and they came out OK after NR and editing). With a modern camera, especially a MLC, you shouldn't be afraid of pushing the ISO.
Wow the grasshopper warbler really does sound like a grasshopper! I wasn’t expecting that to be honest 😅 great shots of the grasshopper warbler as well - lovely creamy background and a lot of personality. X
It really does! For such a small bird it holds its song for ages with so much effort, Thanks for watching 👀
Great video Lewis lovely to peregrine and raven and beautiful views 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, Glad you enjoyed it 😀
I really enjoyed your video. It has such a peaceful and relaxing vibe, beautifully connected to nature.💚 You got my subscription! 👍
Glad you Enjoyed it, more to come soon. Thanks for Subscribing 😄
I was sitting in a hide at Cley the other day, trying out a new digiscoping set up when a stunning fresh-faced juvenile Sparrowhawk came and sat on a post right out in the open just meters from the hide... if i had had my Nikon Z 100-400mm (1.4x TC permently attached) with me i would have got crippling images! However i had to settle for just crippling views as my scope was at the other end of the hide!... after about a minute or so i turned to see were my scope was and when i turned back the bird was gone.
That's a Classic example of Bird Photography isn't it, one day you have all the gear you need for the moment but it never comes, the next time you have nothing with you and you get all the opportunity but are powerless to take advantage Haha 😅
Looks more like a Greenshank rather than a Wood Sand?!
You could very well be right it's just quite a bit smaller than other Greenshank I've seen, the more I look at that Bill it does seem on the longer side though 🤔
@LewisRound flipping waders!... never thought I would mistake a Greenshank for a Wood Sand but until Christian mentioned it I never doubted you. Don't feel too bad though because many moons ago a super-rare Greater Yellowlegs turned up at Daventry, hundreds of birders turned up, many of them experienced twitchers (the finder was a really experienced rarity hunter) but later in the day, after many had ticked it off their list and gone home, a guy noticed a white wedge on the wader's back... it was a Common Greenshank! There were more than a few Rufous-faced bumblers spotted leaving the area after that one.
@solitarysandpiper8491 that Story makes me feel a whole lot better haha! Waders are a nightmare as they come in some different colour morphs to throw you off 😅
Looks like you had a good day, well done. Pictures of the Sparrowhawk were an unexpected bonus
Thanks Norm 👍🏻 Yeah a great Bonus, those eyes are menacing 👀
Brilliant video good to see the sandpiper and sparrow hawk in open country side 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it, I think the Sandpiper won't hang around while on migration and for good reason with that Sparrowhawk about!
What a moment with the Sparrowhawk, I must pay a visit (I only live 10 mins away), great video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes was fantastic, best view of a Sparrowhawk I've had down the lens for a while 👌🏻
Beautiful capture and good work u doing
Thanks for watching 👀 glad you enjoyed it
I've given up with this organization ! I love animals and feed the birds and squirrels so I asked this well-known organization three times in the last three years for their bird watching sheet as advertised by them and each time I am told * Ifcourse, we will send you one this week" . Ha ! Never received a single one. They are a joke.
Good video 🎥👍
Thanks 👍
nice little walk that. not been to cannock chase for quite a few years, good to see it again, super vlog. watched a few of your vids, i look forward to seeing what you share next
Thanks for watching 👀 have a look around the Channel I have quite a few videos to watch now, have only started this year but aiming to keep the content coming, got some good stuff coming up
@@LewisRound you have made a great start. I will definitely look around and watch your other vids over time . Have a great weekend
Maybe a lot more island scenes and the birds with a talk over would be more appealing than your outstretched arm
Thanks for the feedback, Sometimes we can't always get the balance right for everyone, I'll be sure to try more of that going forward 👍🏻
Someone failed politeness school
I went a few years ago, great day out. The Puffins are walking past you on their way to their burrows. I took my Canon 100-400 V1 which struggled with the flying birds. I had left my 70-200/2.8 in the car, which in hindsight would have been a better choice. The Razerbillls/Guillimots were on the rocky ledges as the boat dropped us off. I did get a fledgling Little Owl sat up on a rock waiting to be fed, that was a bonus. We're actually on holiday in Pembrokeshire this week, I'm a short drive away so I may take the kids there for a visit. The rainy images were a nice change from the norm, well done for persevering and going anyway. It looks like it was quiet there.
Yes a fantastic location and in my view the best place to photograph Puffins, The Razorbills and Guillemot have left the cliffs when I went unfortunately and apparently the Puffins have left by now but there may be some stragglers if you get lucky, ahh interesting to hear little Owl have been on there with the lack of trees, I've seen Short Eared Owl there before though. The 2.8 would be perfect for them in flight I may get one and visit again next year with one
Well done on finding and capturing great images of a beautiful bird. I haven’t seen one for a few years, last time was Ynys-Hir in North Wales where Springwatch was using the reserve as its base. I haven’t been to Cannock since the early 90’s, probably before you were born, I’m going to subscribe to keep an eye on an area I fell in love with all that time ago.
Thanks for watching and Subscribing, yes I'm very lucky to live a short drive away it's so diverse on the chase and Redstart are one of my favourite Birds for sure!
Great video as always Lewis👌 I not been to Cannock Chase, hoping to visit soon, which area would you recommend? Cheers😉
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it, I would say Freda's Grave area and a walk down to Sherbrook Valley following the stream is a good route alot of varying species to see

Brilliant Lewis 👍🏻
Thanks 👍🏻
Hi great video. What are the best areas on the chase to go to photograph birds please.
Hi there Thanks for watching, I like to go round the Freda's Grave area then down to Sherbrook Valley which is a great area too, Adders around there too
They are beautiful birds and you have done them justice, this area has been so good this year with some stunning bird life. Another great video.
Thanks, it was difficult at first to get a close enough encounter to show their amazing colour but this individual loved the attention, Thanks for watching 👀 😀
Nice work. Can’t beat some dipper photography!
Thanks a lot, yes great bird to go photograph and always a tranquil environment, the fledging young topped it off 😀
Well done Mister that was a good watch. Particularly nice to see Mum teaching the youngster how to look after itself and the young bird quicky learn how to do it. You've been successful in cramming a wide range of wild life in a short period of time. 500 subscribers can't be too far away - keep them coming
Thanks Norm, yes very nice to see these behaviours and very lucky to come across that nest just after the young Dipper fledged, more videos to come down the line 😀
👏👏👏👌
Thanks 👍🏻
what a wonderful setting to spend a week in, thoroughly enjoyed watching the clip - what can we look forward to next?
