Our Bolt Ride across Malta - from Valletta to Rabat

We are finding that BOLT is a great ride share in Europe with fast and friendly service. Affordable too! Our driver today is Herberto, from Colombia and we chat a bit about his life and Malta too. Herberto came to Malta to visit friends, but Covid broke out and he couldn't leave, spending all his money. Then he had to find work to survive. At the end of the video, he recommends The Crystal Pala...
Billy's Not Thrilled with Malta - Valletta
มุมมอง 447หลายเดือนก่อน
For several reasons, Malta did not float our boats. Because Malta had been invaded by countless empires over the centuries - the same as Sicily and southern Italy - we expected a vibrant, bold country with amazing food offerings. Instead, we found a cruise ship stopover, a large tourist destination, with blandish food. It's one of the sunniest countries in Europe and very clean. Residents of ra...
The View of Grand Harbor from the Upper Barrakka Gardens, Malta
มุมมอง 542 หลายเดือนก่อน
We are at the Upper Barrakka Gardens with a spectacular view of the Grand Harbor in Malta. You will see the famous 3 cities that border this harbor which played a big role in the Great Siege of 1565. The Knights of St. John and the local Maltese were able to defeat the Ottoman Empire invasion here, which changed the course of Malta forever, and stopped the Muslim invasion of Europe at that time...
A Walk Down Republic Street, Downtown Valletta, the Capital City of Malta
มุมมอง 1002 หลายเดือนก่อน
Billy takes you down the walking street of Republic Street in the capital city of Valletta, Malta. Here you will see lots of people enjoying the shops, restaurants, historical buildings and the Co-Cathedral of St. John. A Renaissance city, Valletta has the urban planning and architecture of that time period.
The World's Smallest Kitchen - Our Apartment in Malta

Billy shows you the smallest kitchen in the world. Having traveled the world, and having lived in an RV for years, this kitchen is the smallest one we have ever used! It has a 220volt one burner, a mini-fridge, microwave and a single sink. Only about 4 feet wide, the tiny window looks out on St. Paul's Cathedral.
Returning from The Blue Grotto using BOLT, in Malta
มุมมอง 1572 หลายเดือนก่อน
We just saw the beautiful limestone caves called The Blue Grotto in Malta. We are using a new ride share service called BOLT - like Uber, but is available 24/7 with more drivers, so their response time is swift. We drive through the arid countryside as Fernando sings a song that his parents really liked, and for which he was named.
At the Blue Grotto on Malta - a Popular Tourist Spot
มุมมอง 442 หลายเดือนก่อน
It took thousands of years for the wind and water to carve out these limestone caves. When the conditions are right, the blue of the water reflects on the walls of the cave. You can hire a boat from the neighboring fishing village for a tour through these caves. Price is $10-$15USD and children are ½ price. See links to our pictorial below.
The Day After the Night Before, Rabat, Malta
มุมมอง 832 หลายเดือนก่อน
After a night of the air conditioner in our apartment raining water down upon us, and the fan motor grinding and roaring into the early morning hours, we are a bit dazed the day after. Repair men show up, but forget to do the complete job and must return. Meanwhile, the maid has our mattress out on the balcony, drying. Billy expresses his lack-of-sleep frustration and gives TMI. Take a look.

Barbados is expensive! My favorite thing about Barbados is the people and the flying fish sandwiches. I haven't been there in a while. I stayed near the Gold Coast near Bridgetown (walking distant). .
Thanks for letting us know. We didn't stay there long, so we weren't able to see too much.
One of my favorite islands!!!!!
What's your favorite thing about Barbados? It was our first trip and we didn't get to see enough!
@@RetireEarlyLifestyle1 The people and the flying fish sandwiches are my favorite thing! We have toured the Harrison Caves, visited Christ Church (an actual church as well as a section of the island), saw sun dials; lounged on the beach and pool! Barbados is one of the more expensive islands.
@@sspigner2000 Yeah... not cheap but of course very beautiful!
You're doing a fantastic job! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
Hi @Gordoninan, We are unfamiliar with the investments you have listed here. Our approach has always been very simple. Take a look here: www.retireearlylifestyle.com/retirement.htm Thanks for taking the time to comment.
This is a great success story! Also I can clearly say that you both don't show your age I mean at all! Happy holidays legends! 🤘😎
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
No no not potatoes. Flying fish and cou cou
Yes, we know, Cou cou is everywhere. but the song was "flying fish and potatoes" - That's why Billy mentioned it. Besides, "potatoes" rhymes with "Barbados"... not with cou cou... haha "In Barbados, flying fish and potatoes are a staple combination, often served together in a traditional Bajan dish."
Pretty cool place to chill 👍
There were some very beautiful locations on Barbados!
I spent time in Bridgetown and took the city bus to Christ Church. January was very busy the first time I went - lots of British on holiday.
Barbados is one of my favorite islands. Pricey but lovely.
It’s pricey because of imports so yes it’s costly sadly
Ah this quality is much better :)
Interesting video quality. This must've been very old uploaded video. I have no clue what the technological capabilities were back then. haha
Right, an older video. Technology has advanced very quickly and we didn't have expensive equipment back then.
OH my god! You have been going there since 1993? That's the year I was born. I am considering going back to visit. I am in need of a wife though. haha. I am trying to figure out what would make the most sense. The style of cooking from this area is what I like since my mom was from here. Thank you for making this video. :)
Yes, we retired in 1991, went to Chapala in 1993 and just loved it. We have been going back ever since. Now we live there "permanently."
@RetireEarlyLifestyle1 Amazing. I am a nursing student, so now I appreciate health, particularly in older age. I am very happy you guys are able to live life in retirement happily. Haha.
@@Agustin-jo8mv Thank you! and we wish you great health all throughout your life!
what is your channel, financial freedom sustainably? what does that mean or what do you do?

When you no longer need to work and you can live off your investments then you can give back to your community. You can share your expertise and knowledge. You own your life. We teach financial sustainability. Find out more here: retireearlylifestyle.com/
Sometimes you go somewhere and it is just not for you. I understand that feeling, I think most people do. A lot of tourists and cruise ship activity would not be for me either. And paying to enter a church is not something I would do myself. If I were going to Malta which someday I probably will, I will take this into consideration as well as what other people have experienced there. That is what travel reporting is all about, presenting your experience and allowing the readers to make their own decisions. I for one appreciate this video.
Hi @andianonn, thanks for taking the time to comment. We appreciate it. You seem to have an objective look on this video, and that's smart. Many people LOVE Malta. You need to decide for yourself. Thanks again for your time.
Every year we go in Melaque, it is the best place.
So glad you have found your "happy" place!!
Going by the looks on the other tourist faces, they agree with you. Thanks for the video!
Hi @joepassmore3909 thanks for your comment. 😊
Gotta love the island ppl's intimacy! 😎👍
Ugh! I love the pastry a lot!
They were great!!
What is these State of Mexico?🤷
@RobertTustillos we went from Chihuahua to Sinaloa. Great ride!
Chihuahua North state of Mexico 💪👍
A lot of Europe is terrible. I’ve never heard anything good about Malta.
oh gosh. Haha... We might have been out of step with Malta, but apparently, with all the sun there, the people from the rainy parts of Europe love it!
What a narrow minded view of a place. Have you been outside of Valletta and into the rural area of Malta? Have you bothered to research it's history? Before you criticize a place make sure you know what you a talking about! As for the Cathedral the front of it (what you called the back) , was deliberately built to look plain in order to make it look less attractive to invaders. Have you bothered to find out what role Malta played over the centuries especially during WW2? And yes, I am Maltese and proud of it: your comments insult the people of a nation that has contributed to world peace on many occasions. An old adage says " if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything.
@jamesbuttigieg2879 Thank you for your passionate response! We are moved by the love you have for your country. We feel the same about ours, yet many people criticize the United States unceasingly. Yes, I have researched Malta's history and you should be proud. It's just that my husband has his opinion and he is allowed to have it. As Maltese, you are strong. One person's opinion should not shake you. God bless and thank you for the time you took to respond.
Life full of surprises innit? What a story!
@tolga24 Yup! Those Pastizzis were good, too!! 😄
@@RetireEarlyLifestyle1 I can guess that! 😁👍
Maltese here. While I agree with you about the high rises and the construction, which has plagued us these past recent years, Malta has its own charm, that has recently been overshadowed by the massive influx of foreigners, who come here to earn a living, because they are unable to do so in their own country. You may have noticed Valletta inundated by Italians who leave Italy and rent or buy our cafeterias to sell from here.We also give shelter to many third country nationals, offering them work and stability, so the country is also inundated by vehicles. For more authentic culture I invite you to visit Mdina, Rabat, Vittoriosa, Gozo and the quaint Marsaxlokk. Not Valletta. Valletta is now taken over by Italians. One last point. Malta is NOT dry. It is in fact incredibly HUMID.
@pinkiesmum thank you for your insights. We appreciate them! We stayed in Rabat and we did visit Mdina. Unfortunately, we did not get to Gozo. It was my understanding that water was a premium on Malta, so that was why the locals did not have flower boxes or plants in front of their homes or in window boxes. Or why there aren't flowers, Palm trees, deciduous trees growing virtually everywhere in tourist locations. When we drove through the highways, the land seemed dry and barren. This is neither here nor there. And I do appreciate your insights as a local Maltese. Perhaps Billy Malta just wasn't Billy's "cup of tea." It's ok We are all different. Thanks again!
@RetireEarlyLifestyle1 in that sense yes it is dry. Plants burn in the summer heat.
It's 240v & standard 3 pin plug, it's the UK system 🙏🇬🇧
Hey thanks! We appreciate your input!
That is NOT a cathedral outside your apartment. It is the parish church of Rabat, recently named the Basilica of St. Paul. The cathedral is in Mdina.
Ok, I'm wrong. You win.

are u joking? whit Mafia ? this is really unresponsive what u said
Sir. When we were in Sicily, there were signs signifying "No Mafia" in their places of business. Others told stories of where they pay the Mafia to DO their business. The Mafia is alive and well in Italy. I don't know of what you speak, or why you might be disappointed or upset with our "tongue in cheek" video referring to this well-known, raucous restaurant that we nicknamed The Mafia Restaurant" - straight out of a movie. Have a sense of humor, Sir.
this is cultura....son of a B.......
My great grandfather was from Faeto. His last name was Cavalieri. I spent lots of time in Sicily in the summers and would love to come and visit Faeto at some point.
I hope you get to go to Faeto. It's a little difficult - out of the way - to get there, but definitely worth it! I'll never forget our experience!
Trying to find a link to their tour. Will be going there soon. Can you help
Hi @ericcake5075 I don't know that they have scheduled tours. We simply took a cab to the distillery and personally asked Oscar for a tour. My husband is a chef and we used to own a restaurant in California, so we used that to show we were serious tasters... You might ask for Oscar who is the chemist or ask for Felipe's son... whose name has momentarily escaped me. Good luck!

If you go to Mt. Etna, be sure you take the tram ride to as far up as you can, or perhaps plan to do the 3-4 day hike. You are young! It depends on the weather as to what you will be able to see... GOOD LUCK!!

Prices are insanely cheap!! Winery and brewery are my hobbies, but I'm really surprised that a shop charges those prices while having the profit as well. That wine shop could be my favourite place if I was living out there!! 😂💯Also I hope that there is still clay pot winery technique existed. Italians are pretty good with that too. Cheers!! 😎🍷
I agree... prices were incredibly affordable, and the wine was very drinkable. Like a young wine, spring wine, like Beaujolais. We found these shops often in southern Italy and Sicily. What a fun hobby you have!!
Pretty cool! 😎👍
@tolga24 It's a nice area of town. Very clean, lots of restaurants and not as "gritty" as other places in Catania.
