Plat maps illustrate land ownership and the county's growth. The Dunn Museum’s 1894 Lake County plat map fills a gap in the historical record between the 1885 and 1907 maps. So you did not talk about cleaning the glass, checking what kind of matboard the picture had and you didn't check the acidity on the paper or the frame, you did not seal the wooden frame so the wood would not touch the photo or matboard and you did not add a moisture barrier or a dust cover. That picture will not last long if you leave it the way you left it.

    There is a handsome and informative book on museum exhibition design from the eyes of a famed museum exhibition designer with decades of experience in planning and designing museum exhibitions. The book is available at Fine Arts Press. The book should be of interest to anyone working in or interested in museum exhibition design, as well as residential design in regards to fine art installation.

    A question. . What happens to paper that has been covered on both sides with sticky film?

    • @DunnMuseum
      @DunnMuseum ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the question. For a document that has been covered on both sides with sticky film, I would consult with a professional conservator. There are many variables at play that could affect the longevity of the piece including the make-up and condition of the paper when it was covered, the type of adhesive that was used and how that will react over time, and the type of plastic film that was used. If conservation isn't an option right now, the best thing to do would be to keep it in as stable an environment as possible since temperature and humidity changes could cause any of the elements listed above to begin changing and deteriorating.

    My ancestors(my grandmother's grandparents) were abolitionist in Stewardson IL before 1849. I went there in 2011 and learned from the head of the local historical society that stories I heard from my grandmother were true. I would be interested in learning more about the underground railroad in that area. There was an actual tunnel there! I've heard many stories, but I'm not sure how Stewardson fit in to the big picture other than slaves were hidden in the sorgum on boats headed to Chicago on the (Little) Wabash River.

    As an atlatl thrower is see some pretty huge mistakes here. It certainly does not provide 200x more power. If that were so I could throw a spear about 6km. it provides 200% more power. more if the thrower is longer.

      They also make the mistake of showing the dart's blunted, fletched end being placed inside of the hook. In reality, the dart has a cupped conical depression drilled into it, possibly with sinew or other reinforcing fiber wrapped around it to stop it from splitting as easily with repeated throws, this depression fits over the spur. As the atlatl is swung. keeping the dart level with the eye for accuracy, this cup and spur creates a bearing system that helps propel the dart down a narrow arc and release just after the apex of the throw, though following through the motion of the throw is still important.
