Welcome to The International Historical Organ Recording Collection.
On this TH-cam channel and on the accompanying website you will find historical organ recordings transferred from 78rpms and early LPs. I have chosen to publish the recordings as individual videos but also (and perhaps more important) as playlists sorted by the individual organists.
They are all recorded before 1973 which makes them public domain and therefore legally publishable. The transfers are privately made by the owners of the original sources so these recordings are not digital copies from any commercial reissues.
Please also visit www.ihorc.com.
Kind regards

Diese letzte Fuge des Lebens Bachs ist immer wunderschöne !
It's very valuable.thank you.
Thanks for uploading these historic recordings.
Thanks for uploading this historic recording.
Sempre eccellente per la chiarezza
It is so wonderful to hear Vierne in his own hand. I love his compositions, but he, like so many of the past, seem almost of the imagination - we only experience them through a other's - often also gone - interpretation. These recordings bring us so much closer to the master and even to som of his contemporaries. Thank you so much for publishing these fascinating works.
Tournemire: genius. Duruflé: genius in reconstruction.
I just read about this and had to watch it. Well, listen to it.
Thank you for uploading this important historical organ recording.
Wonderful! Helmut plays 548 better thanyone. Sorry that he cheats on the “impossible trill” Did hever play BWV 577 Fugue in G major “Gigue”.
Helmut Walcha shines out among a plethora of fine instrumentalists of the pipe organ. As far as I am concerned he may have equals, but none who about them can be said they have somehow exceeded his power, his exquisite phrasing, his emotional impact.
So unbelievably cool to be able to hear a student of Franck play his works. What a time to be alive.
The talent here is beyond words.
oh my Godness!!!!! thanks
The greatest organist!
Caged rage
that was beyond exquisite. simply breathtaking how someone can improvise like that.
sensational documents, many thanks for posting this!
Wonderful to hear this! It may interest you that I've just uploaded Fernando Germani's 1952 recording of this piece from 78s. th-cam.com/video/drquVduXHvU/w-d-xo.html
Sublime.
Musical blessing.
Le maître.

sunt lacrimae rerum et mentem mortalia tangunt una delle esecuzioni più toccanti
Amazing!
Alkmaar is 415
This was before the 1980's flentrop restoration, when it was still in 440. Witte cut the pipes in order to bring them to 440 in his 1890s rebuild.
Thanks for posting. Clearly demonstrates his marvelous technique. Interesting to hear the flexible approach to tempo, especially when compared to today's performances.
At 4:11, was the reverse side of the disc a different take with a closer microphone setup?
I reckon it's a different organ altogether. Different pitch as well as less resonance.
Malgré les limitations techniques, le message du créateur de cette pièce phare pour moi, me parvient de la façon la plus touchante et pure que je n aie jamais entendue.
What a joy to find this incredibly rare recording here! I believe it was never officially released, as the sound quality was so poor. But Charles Lever's amazing digital transfer is little short of a miracle. Musically speaking, I think this is the finest of all Tournemire's recordings. So expressive, totally authentic, and the precision of the staccato, the sforzandi, and the little swirls of semiquavers in the central section are absolutely electrifying. And the Voix Celeste such a lovely touch at the end!
This information is incorrect. This is Westminster Cathedral - recorded March 1947 (Pts 1&4) and October 1947 (Pts 2&3) and released in June 1952 as a complete T&F. The Toccata was issued in October 1948 without the Fugue.
The best interpretation
Wow, I just realized that most of the transcriptions of this are wrong: the second melody note (re) is actually a double-dotted repeated note. That pattern continues through several places in the piece.
Was this a broadcast of an actual concert? Or a recording session? If the latter, the quick tempo may have been in order to accommodate the movement on a single 78 side.
I'm not sure. That's one idea, but I thought some 78s could hold more like 4-5 minutes per side, though I'm not an expert, and I'm too young to know first-hand. To be honest, I don't mind it this speed. In a room that dry, it's clear enough. It's possible that he was just 'playing the room.' The double-dotted rhythms (and pedal passing tones) were an artistic choice. I think it's pretty effective, but not necessarily 'proper.'
@@JoshuaSobel, I was gonna say...!
This is a recording for HMV - one side of a 10” disc so they went like the clappers to fit the music all in.
He did this a lot more rhythmically than many do now. I don't actually like this that much. His later recording at St. Thomas 5th Avenue is nicer IMO
Wow, he plays it like a march!
at last
grazie. f. germani, immenso!!
