How Austria-Hungary was called: the patchwork empire. A community of different peoples, united neither by a common national culture nor by a common idea. Switzerland also consists of "patches", but there is a general idea there. And here - nothing, so the state collapsed. And the music is pleasant. After all, the musical culture was on top. I don’t know if anyone else has pondered this question but how on earth did Austria-Hungary have such an incompetent army in WW1, yet had the most patriotic well choreographed marches out there.
They weren't completely useless but their blunders take priority in the minds of most since they're the most amplified.
Austria-Hungary's "uselessness" is exaggerated as they produced much more oil than all other Central Power members combined (important for Germany's naval effort), gave Germany one of the best WW1 artillery, and kept the Franco-Italian navies busy (they could've caused potential trouble for Germany). However, the Austro-Hungarian army was plagued with arrogant and incompetent generals (except Boroevic), terrible logistics, many inexperienced & unmotivated troops, and fighting too many fronts at once. They had their part in helping Germany too, but overall were far from good.
they were not that bad. Vs Italians that had much stronger military, AH Empire was fighting very well(lot of Croats/Slovenians/Bosniaks and even Serbs fought here). They were facing huge Russian Empire in the same times plus others . Not great not terrible.
