There is no such thing as a 'repeater antenna'. There is only the amount of gain and omni vs directional. The antenna you have is more than sufficient. The biggest factor is 'height'. The higher up you get it, the farther you will reach. Enjoy.

My first license was a Novice ticket issued in 1975. Novice Class gave us only one direction in which to get started which was HF CW on the Novice segments of 80, 40, 15 and 10 meters. Most of us used separate transmitters and receivers at that time. My first rigs were a well-used Heathkit DX-60B with a dozen crystals cut for a handful of Novice frequencies, a Hammarlund HQ-110, and a Dow-Key relay. Novice licenses were non-renewable and so when I upgraded to General the following year, I bought a used Heathkit HG-10B VFO to gain some elbow room. I still miss the Hammarlund. The gear is long gone, but I do still have the box of crystals. That Novice pathway into the hobby gave me a great foundation. So many new hams have never had the experience to peak the grid and dip the plate. Antenna tuners were an expensive luxury, network analyzers didn't exist, and few hams worried much about mismatches as long as the output network in the rig could load the antenna.

@@jamesseaman2950 that’s the era of radio I wish I could be a part of. The late 70’s to early 80’s. Radio has came so far from where it was 20 years ago. You can pick up a good vna to see what your antenna and coax is doing for under $100. I remember doing cb radio mid to late 90’s. I never once worried about swr. And I never damaged a radio. big problem is to many unneed connector on your antenna cable as insertion losses there takes away from any gain in the antenna. buying a new correct connector on the N-type having as few as possible all add to more efficient cable coupling of your transmitter to antenna You EFI will be higher with a max of 50 watt and give your repeater more range in the end. Yes it works when all things are dry but all connection will get wet and there just more chances with yours.

I have two Baofengs that my now ex-wife got me but to me they are toys. I also have a Radioddity GD-77 she got in a second-hand Mormon store here in Utah. It's a DMR radio and can also be used for analog but programming it is a nightmare because you have to fill out a "codeplug" for it and then download that to the radio. I've never used it due to the pain in the rump it presents. The Chinese radios like Baofengs and the dozens of similar brands have poor single conversion receivers and on transmit they often transmit dirty harmonics. I only use the big brand and well known Japanese rigs and will not transmit with any Baofengs or the like. I have 2 Yaesu's and a Kenwood and Icom. They are real radios. I compared my Chinese radios on receive to my Japanese radios and the interference and overload rejection on the Japanese radios is far superior. I'd rather use my ancient Radio Shack HTX-202 than any Chinese radio. Better to pay for one moderately expensive Japanese radio than 20 Chinese ones for the same price. Trust me.
