I started playing guitar at age 16, listening to Metallica and Iron Maiden. Went to music school at Musicians Institute in Hollywood (GIT) where I was very lucky to have Russ Parrish (aka Satchel) as my instructor and friend. My style has been influenced by Marty Friedman, Uli Jon Roth, Andy La Rocque, Russ (naturally) and lately by Jakub Zytecki.

Vivian’s phrasing, note selection, and perfectly timed moments of flash & flair are what make his solos rise above the typical lead guitarist from the 80s. I bought his instructional video, back in the day, and learned a lot about his approach to lead guitar playing. He’s one of my favorite guitarists in the heavy metal genre. When Craig Goldy replaced him, in Dio, the magic was lost. 😢
right on! I met him in '91. Coolest guy on earth. He told me that he wrote all the riffs too. That's why the magic left with him IMHO
