DCS F-4E - Longer range boresight locks using a modified input lua.
After experiencing some frustrations with Jester since release, I borrowed some of the WSO cockpit's controls to use in the front seat. Disabling Jester presence is required to stop him from interfering, but I find that by using Voice Attack it is very similar to commanding Jester anyway.
I've taken the radar range knob, the radar display knob, radar elevation and power, and I'm using the standard bindings for the other WSO items like half and full action that are provided by the standard bindings.
As soon as Jester is able to handle a few more functions like boresight engagements, I'll be reverting. But for now, this has been a decent quality of life mod.
Thanks to tripod3 on the ED forums for the Cold War Assets mod. It's well worth checking out if you're into the era.

DCS F-4E Lofting GBU-12s
มุมมอง 1974 หลายเดือนก่อน
Very quickly put together this clip to demonstrate the usefulness of the loft delivery with laser guided weapons. I omitted the entry of the bombing computer data for Jester, but my parameters were a 5000ft, 560kn run in with a 30 degree pull up. While there is no way that I flew closely enough to the parameters to use dumb bombs in this case, it illustrates how forgiving LGBs are. I look forwa...

DCS F-4E Jester Presence experiment

Quick, low production quality test with Jester presence set to off. I have bound radar antenna and gain controls, as well as half and full action. Fishbed off the nose at 50nm. I am sure that Jester will improve over time, particularly in relation to using gain to break out contacts from the clutter. A great middle ground would be to allow the human front seater to interact with the gain withou...

A very short video on lofting cluster bombs in auto mode. I'm finding that most bombs fall somewhat long when I loft them. CBU-97s work reasonably well with their relatively smart skeets. I have found that if I break line of sight with the designated point, the steering line for the designated point will skew off to the right side of my HUD. My workaround was to ensure that I was flying directl...
DCS Mirage F1EE - Barax ECM pod

Aerges have released the Barax ECM pod with the new open beta patch and I thought I'd make a quick video on the very basics of the system. I've found it quite useful in the very short time I've been using it. Life gets very difficult when the radar burns through the ECM though! As Don Rudi mentioned in the comments, the ECM panel won't be hidden by your stick if you place the pod on the right w...
DCS Mirage F1EE - Lofting laser guided bomb

This is a very, very quick demonstration on how to loft laser guided bombs. I will create a more detailed and slower paced video once Aerges include the ability to change laser codes from the cockpit in a future update. DCS Mirage F1EE - TACAN and VOR course hold autopilot modes
มุมมอง 741ปีที่แล้ว
Don Rudi, Destroyer of Bridges inspired yet another quick video, this time on how to use VOR and TACAN stations to provide autopilot steering. In practical terms, this is nearly identical to the auto-land function but without the glideslope. Note that to set a VOR course, you must set the outer knob to ILS rather than VOR. I'm not sure if this is a bug, but having it set to VOR mode does not se...
DCS Mirage F1EE - Working with bullseye calls

Another quick video on the F1EE, dealing with how to make sense of bullseye calls using an offset waypoint. In this one, I'm using a hypothetical bullseye call to a group of trucks. But at least now when you hear your AWACS friend making a bullseye call, you have the option of using it to incre...
DCS Mirage F1EE - Autopilot assisted ILS landing in low visibility

After spending some more time experimenting with the "auto-land" feature of the F1's autopilot, I thought it might be worth putting another video together demonstrating how it looks in poor weather. Not every ILS station has glideslope guidance, for exa...
DCS Mirage F1EE Autoland
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Inspired by the legendary DCS aviator Don Rudi, I thought I'd put up a quick video on the autoland function of the F1EE. This isn't an example of the perfect and correct way to do it, but it shows enough to hopefully understand how the system works. I suspect that the intention of the system is to enable the pilot to fly IFR down to minimums where he or she could decide whether or not the rest ...
DCS Mirage F1EE - TACAN offsets
มุมมอง 553ปีที่แล้ว
The F1EE is a bit different from the CE, and initially a bit less intuitive. The important parts to remember on the IDN for TACAN navigation are theta (for range), rho (for bearing) RNAV-N for TACAN station location and RNAV-VA for a destination offset from the TACAN station. I'd initially thought that TACAN offsets would make it easy to keep the INS updated by picking an offset and then settin...

Did the pod change in some way? after turning it on, not a single light turns on. Not the warming one nor the jamming one
Yes it’s definitely not an auto land. Once you get near the threshold you definitely need to “soften” it up. Good video
what i like to do at a certain distance that varies in each case i push the trim nose up about 5 times and it does a pretty nice flare and lands smoothly
thank u from France for sharing this video!
Have you tried doing a dive toss with GBU12? I’m finding that those all go long if I toss them.
No, I haven't. Haven't had much time in the F15 lately at all. When I get a chance, I'll test it.
Have you got the right GBU selected under the armament panel? There’s a few different options that have different ballistic properties
Also make sure you are designating at the base of the target, otherwise the pod will look past the target and designate the spot on the ground behind the target
@@catfunt5583my bombs usually miss my targets when designating in the tpod. So you’re saying putting it right on the target is the reason?
@@Waynethegunner the tpod has a pre loaded terrain map of the area, it doesn’t actually “know” where or what the target is. Basically you want to designate the spot of ground below the target, if you aim at the target, especially if your looking at the target from a shallow angle, the tpod will think your looking at the ground behind the target
Nice demo for how to set it up and the speed / configuration management. Do not ride it all the way to the deck…the engineers won’t thank you when they have to check the undercarriage. Since you are flying an ILS, you will take control at Decision Altitude…which you should check from the airfield plates. For DCS purposes I use threshold elevation plus 200ft. Get configured nice and early and aim for about 10 degrees AoA in the descent. Depending on your weight it will be between 140 and 165 kts. Check gear is down and locked. Then run your pre landing checks from the knee board. Monitor the descent all the way down. Scan your airspeed, AoA, ILS bars, heading and occasionally the engine and warning panel. Keep the identifier morse code going in your helmet. Somewhere on the approach ATC will tell you to check gear and clear to land. Check you gear is down and indicating. As you approach Decision Altitude look up, assess whether you are visual with the runway and in a position to land. Make your decision, then disengage the autopilot and fly the jet. It may be tempting to dive for the threshold. This would be wrong and will destabilise your approach. The ILS takes you to the Captains Bars, which are white lines painted in line with the runway about 1000 feet inset from the threshold. As you cross the threshold, smoothly reduce power and gently flare. If you flare properly you will touch down about one quarter to one third along the runway. This is normal. For the F1, smoothly fly the nosewheel to the ground and promptly deploy the chute. Start gentle braking at about 80 kts, maintaining the centreline. Don’t be surprised in a jet like the F1 if you have to exit at the end of the runway. Ditch the chute before turning off. Debrief complete
Well I learned a lot!
Very nice! Do you know how I can set up the FAC to lase buildings, e.g. bunkers, for me? I seem to get it working only on vehicles. FAC - attack group. I can only assign it to vehicle or infantry groups
I've never tried, I'd be shocked if it wasn't possible but it's also one of those cases where it's probably not well documented. If I get time over the next week or so, I'll try and work it out.
@@biggus3348 Thx buddy, maybe you can find a way or confirm it's not possible and get back to me. I have watched many FAC tutorials but can't recall anyone hitting any buildings, only vehicles. Keep up the good work with your tutorials!
Thanks for this stuff. There’s not that much around on the EE, I suspect all the people who did tutes on the CE didn’t feel like repeating themselves and the differences are usually slight - other than the INS system of course. And right now the F1-EE is my favourite DCS module. For now. I’m holding off on learning the F-15E until Mudspike’s guide comes out, I still need to get my head around the Apache and in the meantime, the EE is a delight. Real flying (not FBW). It also has advanced enough radar and weapons to make it fun. It’s a beautiful plane. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved the look of the F-16 since the 1980s but the F1 just looks like a fighter jet. If you asked 10 boys to draw a fighter, 8 of them would draw something that looks like the F1 :D
It's truly a lovely aircraft. I'm looking forward to doing more with it. I don't feel like I've even scratched the surface with the module, there's so much to learn and so little time! I'm hoping that the kneeboard laser code entry comes soon, so I can showcase some multi-player JTAC stuff. I think that has a huge amount of scope for enjoyment.
Nice vid, subbed, since I am also really enjoying the F-15E. I shall try your height at 1200. I was setting it at 2200 but not having much luck. Love lofting! (Snake Eyes on a target point going very low and very fast? I'm not having luck with setting up a target point and initial point for that)
I think it will take a few patches for the devs to get bombs landing where they are intended, but it's certainly fun to try now! Thanks for the sub!
I do hope razbam fixes the cbus opening prematurely as I really struggle to get proper hits on targets because they don’t open above the target
I should have added a step I've been experimenting to the video, I go into the A/G Load page, and find the CBU-97s and then set the height to 1200 and cycle the time until it disappears. It seems better but it's probably a placebo.
SE's early access release is epic failure. Nothing working properly.
@@biggus3348 I got really confused about the fuze setting for CBU97, in the manual it stated that the height is the MSL altitude, but what if you want to drop CBU97 at NTTR where the target elevation is above 4000 ft? But if I treat the fuze altitude as AGL, sometimes it will open too late and hit the ground.
@@OrionRox I've noticed some similar things. It doesn't seem terribly consistent to me.
Couldn’t image being on the other end of 12 cbus
Glorious
It would be very quick and extremely messy.
thank you for making this though i find its really hard to find any tutorials for the f1 on the ILS and other more rare features the plane has. Thank you for making this! DIdnt even know the mirage could do this!
when i select the autopilot button the plane ends up just flipping... i even tried autostarting and set everything up and still had the same issue. Is this a bug you are getting aswell recently?
I've had trouble pretty regularly with autopilot engagement over the last couple of patches. I haven't tried it this patch though, but I know they've been working on it.
The reason for the offset is because of the magnetic deviation given ln that side of the World for the date (period in time), that is the responde of the few degrees off course 😊
Nice! It's kinda easy to remember: 600kt/6NM/ 1000ft AGL (maybe it would work at 600ft too) and 4G -> 45°.
I confirm, you’re not supposed to touch down with auto pilot engaged, neither is M-2000C. I suggest to use the same minimum as M-2000C: RVR = 550m/ ceiling = 200ft. At the latest you should take over at 200ft and flare manually.
Nice video, if you want beacon approach charts you can upload them to DCS user files by typing "CORSAIR VEAF". I can't share the link with you, it's gone.
I just noticed... "Hornet" ball on the call? Damn that sucks for Tomcat guys
Great video, I'm learning a lot from your video as it makes much easier to learn the intricacies of the INS system of the F1 EE ... thanks a lot.
Thank you. I've been thoroughly enjoying your series on the F-4 mod!
Would be interesting to see how the F1’s radar “sees” jamming and how well It handles that jamming.
That's definitely worth investigating.
Currently it just looses lock. Idk how accurate that is, but in missions where I've seen jamming behavior(weird radar displays), it just fails to lock until it burns through to the target.
Are there any time issues with how long you can run the jammer, or can you can you just turn it on and leave it there? I'm thinking like the MiG-21 radar that has about 15 minutes of up time before running out of coolant.
Nothing noted in the manual relating to time limitations, only the warmup time of 150 seconds.
We had ECM pods on the F-16's when I was in the Air Force. It'd give them the signature of a goose from what I was told. ... no chaff/flair?
I think I did pump a few out at the end, but it didn't really matter for this demonstration. I'd normally use terrain masking and attempt to bait the site into using up it's inventory firing at me, rather than sit up at 25,000 straight and level.
If you put the Barax on the right wing, you won't need to remove the stick ;) Guess the other slot is prepared for the Phimat already
Hopefully the Phimat is two weeks away! Pity we probably won't get an ARMAT.
is it less effective if its mounted on the right side and the radar site is on your 9 O'clock?
@@jamesmontgomery9464 Interesting question. My intuition says not significantly, but it might be something to test!
@@jamesmontgomery9464 it has a front and rear emitter, so I doubt the side makes a real difference. Especially as you are beaming the radar site, when it is at your 9 o'clock anyway.
@@jamesmontgomery9464 there is no differences between jammers in dcs, they all behave equally. its a limitation of the game. so, in dcs, no.
Most helpful. Thank you.
Hi Biggus, I tried the VOR and TACAN course hold and it works fine for me, it will be very usefull! I also tried the "FROM" vector instead of the "TO" and it works too.
This is a great series. The F1EE is my current favorite.
Just perfect as usual!! I will give it a try as soon as i can, can't wait to see the next one...
I don't understand why you don't bank towards the indicated course and pull at the stick to turn towards it when the course is too far. As the course marker gets closer you could have banked the aircraft and turn a little bit to the opposite direction and only when the course is close enough to make rudder corrections. With rudder corrections from the beginning the procedure took a long time.
The purpose of the video was to demonstrate the autopilot modes. Sure, I could have manually intercepted that course, but the interception of the course an important function that I wanted to show. I didn't provide any manual input at all beyond throttle and airbrake with this intention in mind.
Did not know about the DCS notepad function! So useful to take coordinates
thanks Biggus, very interesting use of the Offset
Thanks for the video, you've got a new subscriber :)
Pitch oscillation!!! I experienced that a lot as you saw !! thxs for your vidéo again, like it a lot.
Took me by surprise the first time I experienced it. I suspect it's something to do with the center of gravity.
@@biggus3348 i think you really have to focus on the AOA and always anticipate every slight power you have to add or reduce, i think that the closer you are from the glide emetor the more you have to limite your AOA changes, and if you you go outside of the enveloppe...you're dead !!
Nice video demonstration :) And thanks for the "legendary", I feel deeply honoured ;)

True story. 1994 aboard Kitty Hawk. We had a Tomcat come in with dual hydraulics failure and was losing pressure and controllability He landed it on a 3 wire just as the last of the hydraulics pressure went to zero. They had to tow him out of the wires, wings still full spread and with a dolly under the tail hook. Had to crank open the canopy as well.
I know a guy in San Diego that is working on restoring a Tomcat that's been sitting for over ten years, but we never were able to open the canopy. What kinda tools were used to crank it open? I didn't even know that was possible.

Was this before WESTPAC 1994 or during it? I don't remember that one, though the camera feed we had in Central may have not been watching him after he landed. I did see some of the VF-51 crash before they cut the video though, and that crash told us we didn't have a direct feed...which the EEOW pitched a fit over & got fixed.
