Is this a jar demo, or a wedging demo? Lol
The clay shouldn’t be lumpy when adding the defloculent. Also this really needs to be mixed with an immersion blender. Doing it with a spoon is not going to thoroughly mix this anywhere near enough.
What type of colors do you use?
Wow I didnt know this. Thanks for this video!
just to be clear, the Underglaze has to be bone dry before applying, then you wet it to apply. thanks for this video, just now found it
Hi Patricia, so glad that you like the video. In my opinion, yes, it's best if you let the underglaze dry completely. I like to usually make a bunch of decals at the same time. This way, some are drying as I begin new projects and I'm not sitting there literally waiting for paint to dry!
Found this instruction after struggling to fit a lid on a piece today. Excellent information. Thanks!
Sous-titres en français svp merci 🙏
It reminds me of carving a pumpkin with no face.
Cool wall in the background!
Fantastic video, Evan! Thank you.
love it
deflocculating is making clay watery.then add some epson salt, will help thicken.
Is it just me or does the plastic bag look like a profile of a face with a goofy smile??
Yep! I saw it first thing. Cool, huh?
Thanks. Nice idea. Why not paint directly on clay?
Hi sorry for the late reply ! I like to do transfers because I can reproduce an image over and over, and allows me to play with layering and repetition in interesting ways. This piece has such a simple pattern you definitely could paint this by hand. Check my website www.evanhagan.com for some more complex designs!
If you deflocculate the slip then will that not prevent the slip from attaching to the vessel since the clay particles are repelling each other?
I know your comment was left a long time ago but just to answer your question. When he’s talking about using the darvan he’s talking about how the clay particulate themselves stick together and separate not the clay from the plaster.
Nice demo, thanks!
It looks like you've smoothed the edges of your outside shelves, right?
Yeah! I don’t want anything to be sharp to the touch
Is there a particular type of paper to do this?
He said newsprint is good b/c it’s cheap and the process takes a lot of practice.
Very nice. How thick are your walls. And the bottom.
Hi, sorry for the late reply! I like it when the walls are between 1/4 - 3/8in thick
Really like this pie method. Plan to use a modified pie crust idea for teacup etc. Really like your teaching. You’re good.
Hi, thanks so much! Sorry for my late reply but I wanted to let you know that i really appreciate that you got something out of this demo!
Has this piece been bisqued?
No , this piece is leather-hard during the demo!
Really great instruction. TY
