What specific scope can you recommend that has all the features you recommend for shots out to 600 yards max using a .300 win mag 150 grain bullet? For example I love the idea of lockable exposed turrets and return to zero stop and adjustable parallax. I also prefer low-end magnification to be 2 if able or 3 if unable 2. High end of 15 or so seems adequate but I’m not knowledgeable enough to really know. This will strictly be for hunting. Very informative video! Thank you
There are a couple options for you, the top of the list is the Razor HD LHT 3-15x42 (Best), then the Viper HD 3-15x44 (Better), and lastly, the Strike Eagle 3-18x44 (Good, but in FFP). All have locking turrets and will easily get you out to 600 and beyond.
Thank you soooo much!
Gues what I'm taking for self defence when camping
🙌🙌🙌
When you set up a 200 yard zero, you don't do it at 200 yd. You do it at 100 and have the point of impact 1.5" high, or whatever it should be specifically for your setup.
Good rule of thumb, but we would always encourage to verify as it is not always the case between different calibers, bullet dimensions, and bullet weight.
@vortexedge4492 I was talking about setting up for hunting. For my PRS setup, I zero at 100.
Well scripted video. Maybe worth a little more info: I ALWAYS appraise wind at mid range. It helped me earn a US Distinguished Rifleman Badge and an American High Power Rifleman in Long-Range Award. Also, as a CMP-USAMU Military Rifle Instructor assisting the USAMU deliver SDM Training, I note that this training as well instructs students to appraise wind at mid range because that’s where the bullet is most exposed to wind. At any rate, after appraising wind velocity and direction to determine wind value the shooter needs to know how much windage adjustment is needed to counter wind. I use the MOA wind constant formula: distance to target in yards divided by 100 times wind value in mph divided by the MOA wind constant for cartridge equals favor in MOA. For example the M855 cartridge shot from an AR-15 has an MOA wind constant of 10 at 300 yards so given a full value 10 mph wind the formula is 300 divided by 100 equals 3 times 10 mph equals 30 divided by MOA wind constant of 10 equals 3 MOA or 9 inches of favor.
I’ve never shot in a 12 o’clock wind but I’ve seen a lot of 1130 and 1230. I would rather shoot in a 15mph from 3 o’clock than a 3mph switching from 1130 to 1230.
No doubt. I find it’s the 1-3 mph wind direction changes that most effect my long range Service Rifle scores, since these wind changes are difficult to observe yet will displace a bullet 1 to 3 MOA, making X-Ring hits problematic.
Corey is the man!!! Great instructional breakdown.
Is a 5 moa dot to big for a normal range day with 10 to 20 yards?
Great question, which it mostly comes down to personal preference as some like smaller dots and others, larger. However the 5 MOA dot is not too big for 10 - 20 yards as it only covers 1/4" of the target at 10 yards and only 3/8" at 20 yards.
I have only used long firearms but I was doing research and I read that long arms are “easier” than hand guns which makes me wonder why use a handgun then
True, however handguns are much easier to transport/conceal
@@vortexedge4492 okay thank you for the video and comment
bro just did the exact same thing
You may want to watch that again, my guy. In the first rendition, he stripped the mag and then retrieved the reload. In the following version he went right for the reload, observed the stuck mag, strip it, reload, and ripped it.
Great content, especially adding the laser for a visual guide Looking forward to more stuff
Yes sir, stay tuned!
Contemplating between the Defender CCW and EPS Carry. Compared the two at Academy with the Defender CCW definitely has a bigger window. Putting one of those two on my new M&P Smith and Wesson Shield Plus Carry Comp.
Welcome to VortexNation my friend!
Informative!I liked it.

You did not squeeze it you yanked it
Show off
You pressed it to quick making your guns aim go off
Can you put that stock on a 556 rifle
You sure can, its a Magpul Gen 3 Precision Adjustable stock
You use the tip you jerked to the right
The fact you’re using that Ruger pREcIsiOn rIFLe is not confidence inspiring…
Proper trigger pull really shouldn't matter as to what rifle we are using, as these are the rifles we loan to students for our Intro courses here at EDGE. Lower quality rifles should require more of a dialed-in trigger pull to mitigate any influence from being put into the rifle.
I am a US Service Rifle Competitor, US Distinguished Rifleman, and American High Power Rifleman in Long-Range Award Winner. I am also a CMP-USAMU Military Rifle Instructor assisting the USAMU deliver SDM Training. These histories all support SMOOTH trigger control whereby the finger is placed on the trigger wherever it wants to fall naturally from a high firm handshake grip on the pistol grip. And, when smooth trigger control is realized it can be seen via dry firing or from live firing by maintaining consistent sight alignment through subsiding recoil. At any rate, I perceive that instruction given here is good. The bottom-line is trigger pull must not disturb aim and if dry firing suggests that the sight is moving off point of aim, either practice or change in finger to trigger relationship might need some another technique.
@@charlesludwig9173 Amen, thanks brother.
Nice video. How would you modify this for rimfire? How many yards for 22lr vs 500 yards for centrefire?
I thought for vibratite you had to let it dry befire screwing the screws on
It works either way.It should re-adhere every time you unthread and rethread back on, but as always refer to the manufactures specifications/recommendations.

I'd LOVE to see a razor in a 1.5-15x42mm with a dual focal plane reticle.
So would we!
Shooting in NRA LR earning the American High Power Rifleman Award in Long-Range I enjoyed a dot on crosshair reticle, which helped me understand having a consistent sight picture, most important for highest scores when dialing wind. My optic is NF NXS 5.5-22 x 56 almost always operated at 10 power.
Most of our optics are Vortex and any future optics will be Vortex. Stay awesome Vortex!
Your wish is our command!
This guy really knows his stuff and is a great shooter. I’ve taken a few classes with him at Vortex Edge. I highly recommend!
Heyoo! Thanks for tuning in. 🤜🤛
Oorah Dude I like vortex and nightforce….USSF PHOENIX RAVEN Have to try mrad soon..?
"Rah! Try MRAD now" - Corey, probably
Just went through this and purchased two scopes from vortex. Selected both in MOA, wish I would have selected MIL for my heavy barreled 308. My hunting rifle will be fine because of BDC reticle. Where I'm hunting 350 yards is a rare opportunity. Mostly under 100 yards. Selected 3 to 15 because of that. Have a 308 and a 7mm-08 for in the woods, and I'm going to go with an LPVO for that.
Very nice, best of luck in the field this year!
I was lucky enough to take a class from Corey with some friends. It was well worth the time and money. We had a 7 hour drive each way, and we plan on taking more. We took the into to long-range class and learned a ton. Everyone I met was noligable and helpful. They know how to shoot and how to teach, which not everyone can do. If you get a chance, take a class. I use what I learned almost every time I shoot now and have become a much better shot. Great job, Vortex, across the board
Appreciate the feedback and thanks for coming out to train with us!
