    Best hybrid cars will be the ones, which are plugin hybrids with 100 kms of pure EV range, and a decent petrol engine for those long drives. Because most people only run there car less than 100 kms a day. This will ensure practicality along with economical viability.

    Lyriq is a gorgeous machine and I am tempted. But. But. If Donald Trump is elected and gas drops to $1.75 a gallon. EV sales will totally collapse because the cost per mile cost for refueling an ICE we drop by half. That is true only if you charge only at home. If you charge away from home, the cost between the two is going to push to parity. Then your only reason to buy an EV is environmental, not economic. Very few people buy cars solely for environmental reasons. In California, where Newsome taxes gas until it now costs $5.5 dollars a gallon, it will continue to make sense for EV until there are no California residents left who can afford them. And where will they charge them? California electric rates are going up. California will allow no Nuke, LNG or Coal power plants to be built. Newsome asks people not to charge their EVs if the grid is overtaxed from the demand due to the heat. A confederacy of dunces in Sacramento......

      HM? i dont thing so. its PRECONDITIONING not PREHEATING and only come in to play when you need to use a public charger. and even then just like gas the price of a fill up or charge depends on where the fill up or charge is. most times for an BEV it might cost $30 or less for almost all BEVs. i have done a few long trips in my BEV. and haven really noticed a lot of higher costs of the charge. course i do recall the days of $5 and higher gas too. and you never knew before the trip how much that tank of fuel might cost you. and with lots of ICEV having 20 (or more) gallon tanks that fill up could be $100

    The Biggest Obstacle to Electric Vehicles is (fuel stations) the fact that a Fuel Stations are Everywhere there are like seven within one mile from where I live in San Antonio. (Gas Stations Are seriously underrated) The fact that EVs Cost more and depreciate MORE rapidly are MORE expensive to Insure... These are HUGE hurdles and why its Soooo much cheaper and easier to buy a hybrid that can refuel anywhere get about 50mpg city and like 40ish Highway. For some reason they are in the same range price wise as Typical ICE engines and the best part is they can refuel anywhere!!! That is got to be on consumers minds when they think about purchasing an EV. Because if charging stations were everywhere Id still hesitate to get one as refueling a car takes mere mins but charging a car that might take several hours... and that hurts if you want to go on a road trip.

      It's not just a road trip. Normal everyday driving I still find it a pain to have to refuel my diesel truck. It would be a vastly bigger PITA if I had to spend a few hours charging the thing. The powerful chargers that are (relatively) quick damage your battery.

      hate to tell you this but...the number of gas stations has been dropping for a while now. used to be there was about !50,000 of them nationwide. now , its closer to 110,000n and dropping. mostly cause selling fuel isnt a big money earner (there is a reason that most gas stations have fast food and convenance stores with them). part of the cost problem with them is that the tanks have to be replaced every 20-30 years, and the tanks themselves cost about $30,000 each, never mind deinstalling the old, and installing the new ones.

    We recently purchased an ID4. We were disappointed when our dealer told us, "Our dealership only sells 2-4 of these a year." "You mean ID4s?" "No, I mean EVs." When we walked in, he was completely clueless about EVs in general. We did a ton of our own research. Fortunately, both my husband and I love researching so it wasn't an obstacle for us. However, after a week of working with our dealer, and talking with him, it was obvious that he was doing his own research into EVs (and specifically the ones sold by VW). Moreover, when we signed our paperwork, he said that the car he was taking home that evening was the other ID4 on the lot. He admitted that he didn't know enough about EVs and wanted to learn how to live with them so that he could properly advise and educate his customers. I very much appreciated this, and told him so! Also, in our search for a new EV, we talked with a Ford dealer who had driven a Mach-e for several months, taking it on trips up to 3 hours away. He said it started because he wanted to reassure people with range anxiety, but now he only wants to drive the EVs.

    EVs are more expensive and less useful, and unless you can home charge with a good rate and/or have solar panels, electricity is not cheaper than gas. BEVs need to be cheaper than ICE-cars, not more expensive. There is also no reason why BEVs should be more expensive if they have much less parts. As soon as BEVS will be cheaper than ICE cars, normal people will buy them. Until then many people will just decide for the cheaper variant that does not require to change habits or deal with unknown problems.

      I agree with you. Google says that 1/3 of American live in apartments. These people, if they purchased an electric car, would be required to charge their electric car at an EV charger station. You can extend the range of a gasoline powered car by 300 miles by filling up the tank with gas. Time required--- eight minutes. If you want to extend the range of an EV by 300 miles, you fill it up with electrons at charging station. Time required -- 30 minutes or longer. An EV will become a practical choice when you can extend the range of an EV by 300 miles within a ten-minute period of time.

    • @davwill124
      @davwill124 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      well electricity is pretty cheap, as an example a 300-400 mile trip might cost you around $25 at a public charger, all that depends on who owns the charger, what their electric rate is (usually a commercial rate...lots cheaper than residential rates are). plus the DC charger is what makes its really expensive (since its a high voltage piece of commercial equipment, not cheap). while adding a L1 charger is just plugging into a 110 volt plug. L2 charging uses the 220 volt plug. and while the chargers are pretty cheap (less than $800 for full functional one (wifii connection etc). and then you need to have an electrician install that into the braker box for your house (which could require new breakers or major updates) to the braker box. and that varies on where you live (we did that years ago, cost less than a $3000, but only needed 2 brakers to be added), and L2 charger was about $800. and the charging cost us less than the cost of our dryer or HVAC to run (and we could program it to only charge on of peak times). might have cost $5-10 dollars a month vs what i recall what we paid for gas of maybe $100 a week, every week we worked for one vehicle. and while BEVs are indeed simpler in some ways, no need to a radiator, alternator, water pump, fuel pump, oil pump, and more that an ICEV requires t keep from burning it self up. but a lot of the tech in BEVs is new to the manufacturer, and is radically different to what they made before. some of its getting access to cheaper materials than what they use today, some of its newer better batteries (coming soon solid state batteries that charge about as fast as filling a gas tank, with almost 800 miles in range). and probably more room in it than and ICEV will have. and the tech for BEV is changing rapidly and has been for the last 10 years or so. so far we have an BEV that will cost about 35,000 to get with up to 300 miles in range (which oddly enough used to be what ICEV were designed to get in the 60s because you could be some place with 0 gas stations). and as far as living in an apartment have had charging available for the 20 years or so, but just the 110 plugins). and with the costs of BEVs beings looser always. well, sort of. since every new or updated vehicle will loose money as each vehicle will have to pay back the development of the vehicle. the more that are sold the faster that development cost goes down (and that include design and R&D and manufacturing set up). by the way that is how ALL vehicles make money. course i do wonder how anybody knows the cost of production cause that TOP secret)

    • @davwill124
      @davwill124 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@bigglyguy8429 and how do you know that? Ford doesnt specify the cost or production to the SEC, and certainly wont tell anyone else. no other OEM will do it either. course you cant tell the price of production parts (vehicles with orders for parts) or spares (parts without orders). spare parts are always more expensive than production since the OEM has no idea when they will be sold. then there is labor costs. for that one has to know among other things how many labor hours does it take to build the vehicle, which can vary depending how varied a trim levels the vehicle will have (i.e. say you have the basic vehicle with few options like maybe AWD, fancier rims and tires, colors, etc. the more options there are the higher the labor costs goes up. and with more options your parts cost goes up). and of course there is the overhead that is spread across all vehicles of an sorts. course the more vehicles you make some parts and labor costs will go down since purchasing becomes buying in bulk

    • @davwill124
      @davwill124 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      course if you happen to look at an OEM's vehicle you might notice it looks a lot like they took one of their ICEV and turned it into an BEV. which makes the BEV less efficient, but i suppose it makes so that the OEM can turn it into ICEV if desired. with additional development though

Nobody is stupid enough to price their offering at 50% below their closest competitor when they can price it 10-15% below and achieve the same volume. The fact of the matter is legacy auto has been gouging their western consumers all this time, and BYD is happy to play the same game and pad their margins.
