In 1970 I was a student at the University of Southern California. On September 12 of that year, our football team, with a number of black men on it, went into Birmingham for the game. We whipped the Tide, 42-21, and after that game Coach Bryant integrated the football program at Alabama. Blessed Paul Bryant, pray for us.
Bear was great. Many coaches from that era were like this. Men of few words who ran a program like a boot camp. No prima donnas. Even the likes of Stabler and Namath towed the line. Money and politics ruined college football.
Coming from Buckeye Nation here. As a kid watching the Sugar Bowl when Major Ogilivie played against Penn State & watched the last game Bear coached against Illinois in 1982 were big memories for this Yankee. I loved Woody, but Bear was a different animal.
I was in the state in the USAF in 1966-67. There was no talking to Tide fans if you were not all in, too! The Bear had a weekly TV show where he was lamenting a bad year once when his team went 8-2. A “bad year.” He said after a loss once,”We couldn’t have beaten a barber college.” Great lines!
"I expect nothing less" Ya know a lot of coaches could say this, but with Bryant you could feel it was true. That man wouldn't accept anything but excellence. Sometimes it's all about who is delivering the message
This is amazing ! Because it was said sooo ! long ago . But parallels today WITH ALL THE OFF SEASON WORKOUTS & TRAINING ! I'm a ND fan , he was BRILLANT !
Just read The Junction Boys, and watched the movie.4 myself the player with the one armed Father and Mother begging to play, and the Fathersaying football is not War! Rocky for Steelers said : the same dam thing.
.... and if it were today, he would have a pink ribbon emblem on his shirt collar and the speech would be pro-kneel rights and how BLM movement is a step in the right direction for the NFL....the world. ....oh wait, the NFL doesn't have any asian players, hmmmm what are we gonna do about this this thing here🤔.

Look away from the screen. Doesn't he sound like Dandy Don Meredith?

Retired, took a fishing/hunting trip, came home, and died.

Read the book "THE BEAR" and see how uniquely great this man truly was.
And to think Pearl Harbor attack steered him away from Arkansas!
that doesn’t motivate anyone
I wonder how that speech would go today with this new math?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The greatest college football coach of all time. Rest in peace 🙏

Wouldn't you know my eyes glazed over about one minute in.
College football is all about recruiting and controlling prima donnas.

The makers of madden needs to pay attention to this...

We need to bring men like this back
That might have been the most "duh" or useless speech I've ever heard. Just say, I expect you to be national champs and this is how we do it. Lolz.
