Reese Wynans sits down to discuss his amazing career including playing with Stevie Ray Vaughn's band
I was lucky enough to sit down with the one and only Reese Wynans to discuss his amazing career. I caught up with Reese at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in New Hampshire. Reese talked about his time playing the keyboards with Stevie Ray Vaughan and when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He also discusses his current time with Joe Bonamassa (who introduces him as a legend), his first solo CD that he released in 2019 and how he was almost a member of the original Allman Brothers.
Reese also discussed his time with Carol King, Delbert McClinton, Boz Scaggs, Captain Beyond and Jerry Jeff Walker among others.
Please take the time to subscribe to the channel so that I might be able to feature more of these talented artists like Reese.
Closing video of Reese soloing is by @Greg2112

I dont know if anyone has noticed but the legend himself has responded to me below in what is now a showcase of artist informing the general public. Its still so cool for me to see here his direct engagement to my rather overly critical attack assumption regarding his explanation of his work on this piece but also to read his concession on recognising my actual respect for his work. He cut through ky over critical nonsensense and recognised the obvious but hidden respect for him behind it. I comment about this because i thought i was making am essay for my fellow random internet video exploreres but never once expected that the man in question would ever read my stubborn accusations himself! Yet he responded and im so gleeful of our exchamge.please note his responses. Stern in correction yet kind in concession. I meant what i wrote at the time but thinking it was for the digital cobwebs of general thread obscurity. His spotting a serious tone e in my claims and his willingness to respond and entertain my overall view is just so awesome for me. What a cool cat and I want people who visit here after the fact to know that. To others, always express your mind but with a view to test your views. When corrected learn and adapt. No folly in testing ones view but there is folly in not accepting others corrections. My essay was foolish but i leave here for the lesson of testing ones ideas with a view to learn from the tests outcome

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen Reese or not. I saw Stevie at an Austin bar before he was famous, then saw him in Memphis some years later at a blues awards show at the Orpheum, but can’t recall if Reese was there or not. My memory is so sketchy I can’t even recall if Double Trouble was there, could’ve just been Stevie ‘cause it seems like the awards show had a house band. Anyway, helluva talent, Reese. I gotta say though, Gregg Allman’s song writing and voice could not have been done any better by anyone.

He did talk about playing keyboards in school, but you are right Carl, I didn’t specifically ask that question and I probably should have. @@bobevansdrumheadstales5469 I Appreciate it! I always enjoy hearing about the initial exposure because I think about all the Stevie Ray Vaughan's, Reese Wynans or JB's that simply never had exposure to an instrument, or athletes to a sport. I, on the other hand had exposure to drums from my older brother, and became pretty good, but never would have been great, because I simply didn't love it. Anyway, thanks for the interview. I always wanted to hear from him, and I've come across very few interviews. He was considerably more "chatty" than I anticipated. He seemed to really enjoy talking to you.

Thanks Bob. And thanks Reese. I was 17 years old, and one of the fortunate few, (nod to Delbert) living in Jacksonville who happened to show up at the beach, as an audience member, for an event at the Jacksonville Beach Civic Auditorium called "The Easter Blues Festival" on Easter weekend 1969. (Many refer to that venue as the "Beach Coliseum" as Reese does, but Gregg Allman called it the "Civic Auditorium" in his autobiography, and that's what I remember.) Three bands were to play that night. The bands were -The Load (Larry Rhino Reinhardt-w/others) The Second coming (Dickey, Berry, Reese +others, and the one hit wonder band, Crazy Elephant. After all three bands finished their sets, the audience was encouraged to "stick around because...We are going to jam. " and, "y'all are in for a real treat." The lights came up then, on a kind of side stage. There it was. It was all there. The two complete percussion ensemble kits. The Hammond B3. The Leslie. We didn't know their names yet, but they all gradually made their way up on that stage in the next few minutes. Dickey, Berry, Butch, Jiamoe, Gregg, and Duane. The Allman Brothers Band.Unadvertised and unknown. In fact, as I understand, as yet...unnamed. I would eventually see them play over 20 times in the future.

@markhartsfield163, man, that must’ve been a helluva scene back then in north Florida. Besides Allmans and Skynyrd, think about all the other guys from the area. Stephen Stills, Tom Petty, Don Felder, and I’m sure I’m leaving some out. Speaking of the Second Coming, seems I heard somewhere that name was given by a club owner or promoter or someone who thought Oakley looked like Jesus.
