They get paid for an 8 hour day - but they have to finish their route which is predetermined. Most are done hours before their 8 hours are up during good weather.

The arm reaches laterally towards the residence to grab the container, dumps it, then puts it straight down….halfway into the driving lane instead of reaching back out to put it back where it was picked up from. Why besides saving time that should already be built into the schedule?
