How Alternating Current Removes Aluminum Oxide (Read Description)
มุมมอง 2482 ปีที่แล้ว
Aluminum oxide removal is one of the toughest challenges when welding aluminum. By using alternating current to TIG weld, the DC side of the half cycle when welding is removing the oxide layer. Notice in the video that not enough current is utilized to melt the base material only enough to remove the oxide layer to prepare the material for welding.

You’re a great instructor.
Please explain horizontal when striking😢
please explain what you mean by "horizontal when striking" and I will try to answer your question. Thanks
Mark, no question this is an important video on welding beads- should be required viewing for students. Thanks for posting your material.
This was the video I was looking for. I feel like this will help tremendously. Stoked to try it out Tuesday when I go back in.
Thanks for this Video Mark. So far my welds are not that Great . I will use your advice to improve my method. Need all the help I can get cause I cannot afford to go to a welding school.
there is a lot of directions to go in the welding world. School is one, apprentice ships are another and learning on your own can gain some great result too. I continue to make videos to help!!
Great advice thank you sir
Thanks for the video.. please which size of wire will i use to weld 10mm thickness plate?
.035 or .045, even smaller wire will work you will just need to feed more. The smaller the wire the faster the speed
How long is the whip? Equal to puddle size, double?
yes about the puddle size. The idea is you can WHIP off it long enough and far enough to let the puddle solidify for a millisecond especially in a open root pass.
Nice beautiful i like
Thanks for sharing! I wandered what was those numbers!
I am a retired guy learning how to weld and tinker on hobby farm. Just picked up a used 7 inch King horizontal saw. It looked like new except for it being covered in shavings and garbage end cuts. I didn't know where to start, now I do. I am excited to clean it as new and use the cooling system properly before my first cut. Knowledge of the band selection/speeds will be the next learning curve. Luckily there was some junk angle iron still in the vise, so I'll play with something similar to match. Your videos on basic welding are luring me next. You are a good teacher. Even Millennials would pay attention and learn from your full explanation.
Why would you use a 6010 instead of the more invertor friendly 6011?
different flux, deeper pen, better on surface impurities and better in open roots
@@markprosserwelds9419 I tried it on my roots, now my pubes have fallen out, thanks though.
Mark: what are the differences between a precision tig 375 and an old square wave 355 in terms of current consumption and other characteristics? Thanks a lot for the answer!
Nice explanations
Very informative ,but i was wondering if e6010/11 rods should be baked or stored in a rod oven like e7018 welding rods??
no 6010/11 electrodes have cellulous flux, very different than 7018 flux, baking them wont hurt them but that flux does not absorb moisture like 7018 flux
I remember I was welding and the inspector told me to move up across a bit as you say, but when I do, that looks like a fish scale
Thank you sir for valuable lesson.
So wat is best to do vertical up or vert-down on weave beads
depends on process, electrode, material thickness, and skill. many problems with vert down weaves if there is any lack in skill
Except the color of the tanks is REVERSED for some unknown reason. Just to F you up. Someone please explain this idiocy to me?
Lots of good information about characteristics of this rod. Thank you.
As a new welder you totaly nailed this subject , i had a hunch that a 200 amp machine can weld 1/2" plate so long as i do like 3 to 4 passes
Excellent explanation 🎉
Almost non-existent electrode type in Europe (no idea why)
really disturbing arrogant and authoritarian attitude 🤦♂
disturbing? hmmm, well get a helmet squrill
Testing for leaks with a liquid solution is great, just a note to make sure not to use certain soapy liquids as some contain petroleum so I would always recommend an oxygen safe leak testing solution.
Great instruction, Thanks!!!!
My brother I am just seeing this and it has done so much for me thank u for this a million times
Why you say “acrossed”
Ok so how much amperage do i need for the metal im cutting?
I heard that 0109 welds just as well.
What a great teacher
A natural born educator. Thanks..
Excellent
0:43 you said 7018 you meant 6010 I believe
great job. how come tank colors are diff. green is O2 and red is acy usually right
Practiccccce, 6010 is violence and i love it lol
Absolute best video that explains this rod
Hola, tiene un vídeo para configurar éste equipo utilizado Tig pulsado?
In the southern field, we call them LH rods.
LOL why do you say the oxygen is green and the acetylene is red and you got the gauges hooked to the wrong tanks get your s*** together before you try and teach somebody something
Thank you for good explanation, I tried 6010 electrode, whip and pause technique in ( I)shape, also tried (U) shape technique for open root and think that U technique produce better welds as it fuse sides of the bevel as become in contact with electrode and with a pause at the bottom of the U to deposit more metal. Also slightly bigger gap produced better welds because of the weld contraction when it cools off.
0:39 "we can't whip it like 7018" run from this channel
Thanks for a very straightforward Explanation!
What is root pass? Forgive me I'm new to this. Just started with a 6013 first time. Now trying 7018, for heavier projects right? Great video, listening to the end, it did seem hard to use the 6010 for the first time practicing with
Excellent!
Thank you Mark... Also luv your "ARC" Mag articles!!!
Very informative. Thank you.
Tooo much pressure lot of slag
How high is the air pressure setting going into the machine from the compressor?
Arc Length is obviously super important when pulse welding Aluminum as well for the same reason. I have a Yeswelder 211 Pulse welder. Amazing machine but the manual is near worthless.
