Blasting in Underground Mines Part 2
มุมมอง 2.3K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Firing a black powder charge on surface using old tools and techniques. I should add that drilling and blasting in coal does still exists where the coal is unreachable by equipment such as in the modern anthracite deep mines. please do not attempt to recreate or reenact the actions of this video.

Abandoned Mine Hazards
มุมมอง 9224 ปีที่แล้ว
A prime example of an extremely unsafe abandoned coal mine. The roof has collapsed into the old working, opening up a false mine. The freeze thaw cycle also takes its toll on mine entrances.

Yo how do u light the big reflector with the built in sparker... U can't cup that... No seriously I just got the big reflector and I'm repairing it so 😂
Haha,so cool to see the air change like that.
Thanks for this,I just ordered some powder for my refurb..love the sound when they light POOF!!!
Pretty cool.Just enough time to get the hell out!
Hot pockets 😂😂😂
My pyramids are falling apart 😂😂😂
Your head is a rock 🪨 😅😅😅
Very informative video. It is sad that subsidence and water pollution is a fact of life.
I’ve relocated a 3,000’ 20” pipeline for National Fuel in Washington,PA in 2008. It was really hard to believe how much the ground dropped when we came back to tie everything back in, it was around 6-7 foot difference.
Yeah id have prob had to see what was in that opening at end of veido if I had found it . good to know that the ground under the opening is not stable & is way more unsafe than the normal unsafe openings 1 may find out while wondering round in woods ..
Where is this in PA?
Supposedly lithium deposits as well. They say the largest in the world.
In the produced water of the Marcellus Shale there is a bit of lithium
Interesting video! Great narration too! 👍
I have a similar blasting machine. The plunger works but it is stiff and the mechanism does not keep spinning freely at the end like yours does. Do you have any recommendations on servicing it? Does it need grease? If so what type and where should it be applied? Any help would be appreciated.
How do I find this in Jim Thorpe?
On route 209 about half a mile NW of the intersection of 209 and 903. A long sweeping turn in the road, the outcrop is along there.
How do I find?In forest city
What happened? Why did this end? Is there a new channel?
Sorry no there is not another channel. I have been very busy the past while and have not been posting as much as I would like. I will be working on more videos shortly
@@abandonedminesofpennsylvan266I was wondering also! I’m in Pittsburgh and love rocks and minerals. Good to hear you’ll be posting again soon. Stay well!
say no to crack.
supervillians watching this
concerning!
E all the hidden trails been all over that mountain😊
How do you change the wick on one of these?
In 2002 we took that same screwgee drill you have and stuck it on the end of a dewalt drill. Used a power inverter on my 89 chevy astro van and drilled a boot leg slope in trevorton. Used the van battery and a extension cord to fire the holes.
Dude. That's the North Franklin Colliery. Trevorton PA. Those marks on the tracks are a known survey point for the area
Millions of year is false, this evidence of Noahs flood.
Super interesting. Great job! Looks like it’s been a while and I am late to the party.
I've got the that has the big reflector like the one you've got that had the carrying just curious have you ever used yours I know originally they're supposed to burn about 8 hours unlike 8 oz of carbide
A few years back I was at a movie prop rental place. They had a very similar blaster of the same period in new original condition. As an electrical engineer having seen the modern ones asked for permission to see inside and test to see if it worked. They said Yes I went to my car to get tools and a test meter. when the handle was pushed down hard at the bottom of the stroke the power from the dynamo (fixed magnet brush dc motor) was connected to the output leads at 90 volts to fire charge.
Where would you find a wick for the #209 safety lamp?
Haha I was just looking for this info, and you make it for me! Thanks! I have a few of these lamps now and have never actually fired them. But I would like to use them if we lost power possibly. I know they won’t be the brightest, but they’ll be something.
I've always been warned, about buying a house on these mined lands...but alot of homes exist on these old mines. Another great video...tks again...
Best explanation and video. Thank you...
Love your work
That faulting and folding and the associated angles of bedrock are called "the strike and dip" it communicates extent of folding. "At discretion of miners" that "rebound" at surface occurs as well as "weathering" .
Thanks for this. I have a friend who's property was pocked with subsidence where it popped out from the opposite side of the ridge.
I have been looking for a blasting machine for a few years and I just found one the other day at an antique shop that some idiot tried to convert into a lamp of all things. I didn't think anything of it and I figured I would just take the lamp stem out of the top of it and have an operational blasting machine to add to my collection of antique construction equipment and mining equipment display. I opened up the back of it to remove the lamp stem when I got home and that is when I realized and noticed the main gear with the ratcheting mechanism was missing, why this moron would disable this is beside me. Would you happen to know anybody that happens to have parts for these things or where I could possibly get the main gear with the ratchet?
maybe you could get measurements and have one cnc'd or forged?
Great video! We used those in the Navy for entry into ship's voids and tanks. Instruction for use and what they indicated was just like you said it was.
what is the gear ratio?
Have you ever seen these modified into welding machines?
Mine is not sparking any ideas?
Its belonged to dad Koehler 209
I would think it may need a new flint. Sometimes the old one oxidize and crumble.
@@abandonedminesofpennsylvan266 any idea where I can get new flints??
What's up with like A3inch pipe sticking up out of the ground in the woods
Can you get (or make) carbon brushes for these ?
Very interesting.
My family owned the Arnot Hotel
I grew up in arnot. Ride dirt bike and grew up walking these hills. Walk the trail directly in front on you and you will walk to either the arnot park or arnot sportsman club
I love the area. I'm not too far away so I like to get there every now and again. So much history.
I have proof of under water volcano and proof that a city and town are on top of huge quarts vein
🤔🤔🤔🤔
I've found old gold mine
Very interesting!! Thank you for the information
How neat!!!
not to detect gas, but for oxygen deficiency!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was a mine examiner in the state of pa.!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I could find pin point locations to be able to see and explore caves
