Let me guess, this lady has never raised a rebellious teen? Yes okay love them, speak positively…and let them do drugs, let them punch holes in your wall, let them stop going to school, let them commit crimes…no one blames the parents for not intervening right?! 🙄

For people who struggle with cravings, something that I’ve learned is chugging a lot of water. It will not only fill you up but will also repress your cravings in turn. It wont necessarily stop your appetite, keep that in mind, but a craving also doesn’t mean you’re hungry. Your brain is tricking you into eating something that will give you a dopamine rush/make you happy. Its okay to have these but for people struggling to not succumb to these cravings and/or people that have unhealthy cravings would probably benefit from this

I'm about to see a therapist for the first time. I feel like I'm ready to be open. But my thing in is the memories are pretty gross And vivid in my mind. So i don't know how honest or detailed i should be when telling her what happened to me.

This person does not understand the type of anger i live with every day. The expectation is that i will give the equivalent of a car payment to an expert like this so they can see me for an hour once a month. The reality is that even if this works in one moment, it will not change my life. The soft power of therapy is it lifts up those who have not struggled over those who have, removes power from vulnerable people, and gives it to companies who produce pharmaceutical drugs that don’t work and an educational system that is broken. After 20 years of struggling to find a provider that fits, and hearing overconfident people tell me everything will be okay, when they often do not understand the extent to which i am hobbled, I finally get it. Things will be great for them. The people who these exercises work for are truly fortunate. This is the point of education: to be vindicated in your own feelings of superiority. I’m sorry i did this on your video, i came here looking for answers but this is nothing, other than i appreciate the time you spent answering the question. I can not spin the devastation my anger has caused, it is not reasonable. People who see my “passion” to get what i want become afraid. And i do not get what i want either, so it’s not like it’s beneficial, it can not be. Your anger likely looks different from my anger to others and i question whether you ever had anything to overcome- you don’t understand as well as you’re convinced you do, and i think taking this advice would actually be harmful in my life. Now ignore my comment or tell me how ignorant i am because that is what i have come to expect when expressing myself.

This is the first time I've heard a really kind and measured explanation of Shame that ALSO includes a fair and positive look at Shame itself. Like, rather than "guilt is good shame is bad" Shame also serves a purpose, it's powerful, its effective, it's meant to be used carefully- rarely/safe.

This sound very healthy and spot on. The "writing a letter to your senator" part though... does that really still makes sense these days? How many senators are really working for us? I'd say that's part of the reason for the anger most of us are feeling inside of us right there.

This is true, but this is not shame. Shame comes from a not having your needs met throughout development and the child, whom has an innate intuition about what needs need to be met, doesn’t have them met and infers something is wrong with them
