Quick Fun Turkey & Chicken Quartering
มุมมอง 70ปีที่แล้ว
If only this is as long as it took in real time. Believe it or not this was actually our first turkey that we processed. You can probably tell by the not so great plucking job. In all fairness though, we did butcher the turkey after dark using the headlights of the truck. Anyways, I hope you enjoy a quick fun video after our long absence. Keep an eye out for a update of where we are and what we...

We unexpectedly caught on camera, this first time momma rabbit preparing her nest for the babies she soon after birthed. Unfortunately what we did not catch on camera was her pulling fur for the nest. Yep, that's right, momma rabbits will pull their own fur out to keep the babies nice...

We Raise Our Rabbits In a COLONY! Come tour our set up!
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Not the popular approach to raising rabbits, but its the option that seems to fit us best here at Wisenbaker Homestead! Raising rabbits in a colony is the more hands off approach and allows the rabbits to exhibit their more natural behavior. Seeing the rabbits jump around and play is priceless! They're SO happy! This doesn't come without risk though, especially having the rabbits on the ground ...

Upgrading The Chicken Run Floors From Clay & Hay FOR FREE // NO MORE Mud Baths For These Fowl Birds!
มุมมอง 843 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey Homestead friends! I don't know about where you're at but the ground here in East Tennessee is pure clay and loves to hold water. So instead of letting our chickens pretend to be ducks, we found a solution for our muddy chicken runs! Woodchips have fantastic absorption and as a fellow youtuber says, its acts as earth's carbonaceous diaper. So we decided we need woodchips to combat this mud ...

They're adorable. Great video!
What are you going to catch/kill? How do you get whatever "it" is to the mouth of your cone?
usually used for rabbits or chickens that you have raised
So this is a chicken processing kill cone. The head of the chicken is placed in the cone for easy dispatch. Check out our chicken. Processing video if you'd like to see how it works

I need your help
Good work
Good work
My giants are best I got 4 roosters 2 white 2 black 3 of them grew up from day 1 together! They are watch dogs sky and ground threats they sound alarms 1 is 2 years older then test all have place in coop when out free ranging they fight once and while mostly wing beating never draw blood. One of my favorite breeds not as big as everyone things just healthy looking. They like belly rubs and head scratches
Didn’t see hatching cut off Was it because I shared to early 5:51
ITS BLACK !
Did she sounded like it was hard to breath, like wheezing? How was her poop like?
Thanks for making this video. Have you ever wondered how many chickens you have saved. Mine for sure.
Nice little setup. Have you had any babies in this set up yet?
Would love to see more rabbit colony updates
Thank you for the video. Honestly, I’m not sure what my girl has😐. Her crop isn’t extended, yet she has a small hard area in it. It does seem like I can feel “granules” in there at times. (We feed crumbles so the granules would make sense)I checked her first thing this morning and she still had the small hard area. She acts like she wants to eat- she will actually pick up a blueberry or strawberry, then drop it. There is no sour smell to her suggesting sour crop. - her poop is just white urate now because she hasn’t really been eating. I have been giving her electrolytes and vitamins in water. I am going to separate her tomorrow and withhold the food. I haven’t tried that yet.
This sounds exactly like what one of my girls is going through right now, any update?
Same here, please let us know how is your chicken
Too Qute!
Curious when rotating the chicken do you need to be careful the rods don’t tear or catch your hand? What are they made from?
Can you give an update on your rabbit colony
Nice! I really like your set up! It's a great idea to use those buckets. Thank you!
I thought you weren’t supposed to candle after day 18 you risk shaking the baby because he’s positioning himself for hatch?
Oh boy. I'm going to need a broader upgrade.
Thank you for showing this 😊 I am guessing, as with most if not all things, it's all about money-making sadly, as I have kept liquid paraffin, which is of course a lot dearer than a decent extra virgin oil we always have in the kitchen, that according to this video will do just as good! Recently adopted a -side-of-the -road rescued hen, who has severe impacted crop. This is day 4 of giving her tiny drops for her to swallow at a time (chickens can easily suffocate folks!) I am also gently massaging her crop with gently melted coconut oil mixed with a couple of drops or oil of oregano ... just thought it might help as her crop is huge and so impacted, and am guessing there could be infection in there unfortunately. Will keep at it. She's a sweety, bless her.
Thank you thank you thank you for making this video! We have 7 with impacts. I stupidly moved their run to an un-mowed area of the yard. I had no clue they could impact so fast. I’m working on my girls today.
Good work! Thanks:)
Do they breast feed on their own in there
Yes
Awww! I love Jersey Giants! Thank you for sharing!🥰
Does your rabbit run have wire on the bottom
The rooster was crowing. Was that medicine called corid
Yes, Corid. Sorry about him, his timing is impeccable lol
You should strap Dow that metal. Wind can turn that into a dangerous thing. People have been beheaded by those things
Do you have a plan to deal with incest? That's my biggest problem with a colony is keeping kits leads to incest unless you are starting two colonies
As long as the buck is not a sibling to any of the does than it’s ok for them to breed. The only paring that may have major issues is litter mates.
I saw your hens on another video...thought they where white orpington hens....they are so fluffy. I raise Buff Orpingtons and Barred rock hens.
Great innovation with the rabbit hay feeder. Enjoyed your video. Thank you.
are you using hay for feed and bedding?
Yes, we use hay for bedding, and for feed, we give pellets, greens, and hay.
Great set up. Do you ever have a problem with any digging out?
No issues with digging out. We run 1/2" x 1/2" hardware cloth along the inner bottom perimeter of the colony to prevent them from digging out and keep predators from digging in. We did have an issue with kits squeezing through the chicken wire though, so we upgraded to the same hardware cloth ran around the sides of the colony as well.
@@wisenbakerhomestead5128 great idea with the cloth. I’ve been using stall mats but I’m sure the cloth is way less expensive. Thank you!!
What did she say they used for coccidia?
Corid. I use 0.5ml/gallon of water for rabbits
Nice video. Supporting each other here. Keep it up. 🐇🐇
So cute. Are the three you keep shown together are they in a different box. If so can you tell the reason
They actually were in the larger brooder with the others. I would just put them in the box for a close up shot of the 3 different colors I had in that batch of chicks (splash, blue, & black) for a closer look at their development when they were small. It didn't take long for them to out grow the box though haha.
Hi im from the Philippines i want to have that kinds of breed can we buy..
Hi John, we have a mixture of breeds, including New Zealands, Standard Rex, and some that are a mixture of Californian/Silver Fox/Standard Rex. Hope this helps!
@@wisenbakerhomestead5128 I want new zeland and standard rex.... Can u shipped in the Philippines
Good ideas, good job! I'm worried about that drill, though. Maybe you can get an old dryer motor or something from an appliance scrap yard.
Thanks! Yea, if we did that, we could maybe make one more similar to larger production plucker, that'd be awesome!
I'm the bearded guy from the tractor supply market! Thanks for coming and giving me great info and your awesome videos!! ;-)
Hey bearded guy! It's nice to put a name to the face lol it was nice meeting you and I'm glad we could help in some way!
Is the chicken gonna be ok
It tastes great!
Do you think this is ok to do with a chick that is only about 2 weeks old?
I can't be certain, but if impacted crop goes untreated, its fatal, so it may be worth the try. Keep us updated on how it goes.
How did it go my chick is about 4 weeks old and has impacted crop..it's very active and now is so sick and dull .i would like to do something to help it get better
I find it difficult to believe that a two week old chick has an impacted crop. What are you feeding it? Chick food would not produce an impacted crop. String, grass, other indigestible fibers produce impacted crop.
Great Video
Were the wood chips for weed barrier and moisture retention?
Yes! And to cover up the ugly weed mat
nice video
How big is the cage?
This colony is actually smaller than the recommended size for the number of rabbits but we've had no problems. It's 4x12ish with 3 does and a buck.
My wife sent me this video, we are dealing with the same thing. It’s been hard to get a good garden in East Tennessee clay.
I hope it helps. Since we've posted this, I've received tons of additional and even some frugal things we can do to help our soil. I think my favorite tip so far is grinding down excess drywall that it seems somehow can be got for free and then spread that all over the garden instead of paying for gypsum and it will break up the clay. Interesting and not something I ever would have thought of.
I love this so much better than wire floored cages.
Us too! Our rabbits are so happy and it makes me happy!
So glad the made it! One thing I'd suggest is tipping the nest box so the mama can hop in easily still, but the kits can't accidently fall out. It's so sad to find a frozen kit on the wire, especially when everything is going so well so far.
Good advice! Thank you! We actually almost lost a baby this morning that I found on the ground outside of the cage completely. It was freezing cold, but amazingly, it was alive still so we were able to get it warmed back up. Kellan made a bigger lip at the front of the box, so hopefully that helps. Any and all advice is welcomed here!
