2024 is shaping up to be a nicer something between the overcrowded, sardine-packed trains of 2019 and the desolate ghost-town trains of 2021.
I’ve been on the blue skyline trams but not the orange ones
Question.... do you have to be in Business class on the NE Regional to get the rear view?
@@davidbashay6286 It’s actually hard to tell. I see that the business class car is usually at one end of the train, but I’m not really sure if it’s always the case, especially in some consists there could be two locomotives with one at the rear.
@YuqiLinux oh ok... I'm hoping the business car is at the end to get that rear view. I purposely upgraded to business with hopes of getting the rear car. I don't particularly care for side views especially when you're passing thru a bunch of trees
Thanks for posting this!
Nice one! Saw this at the Crossing while waiting on the Big Boy too! Sad part was that it hit a tree. Anyways, this would be the ZG2LT, orginiating from Chicago and Lathrop as it's destination!
@@Thegameztransit Awesome! Did you ended up seeing Big Boy on the move? I had to leave earlier to catch my flight so I missed it 😔
11:08 - reddish-brown steel power line.
16:40 - longest train tunnel at Cuesta Pass. Other train tunnels are shorter at Cuesta Pass. Cuesta Pass is very tall.
Nice, I’ve seen UP 8456 lead 3 different times on accident
Sounds like the puffer doesn't have a full head of steam. Around 40 years ago, Big Boy did a "farewell" tour down the West Coast and back up where it was to be retired. I remember thinking then, "This is probably the last time I'll see a steam engine, under steam." I also remember the shock of realizing that the pilot wheel I was looking at was turning, and I thought, "When the Hell did this mountain of steel start to move? And how is it so silent?" Then came the first blast of exhaust, and the long whistle, and the silence was broken. I'm still amazed how that much machinery can go into motion without making a sound. I don't know what happened, but I'm really glad that there are now quite a few of those magnificent machines that have been revived and are running again. Apparently a few of them are actually in revenue service. A steamer at the head end of a diesel consist will get a train moving and up to speed with fewer diesel units and once rolling the diesels can do what they're best at. I know they evolved a lot, but those fire breathing monsters are firmly rooted in 18th Century technology. We've come a long way -- I think -- maybe not.
@@audryhaynes3277 I’ve never seen a full-size steamer on the move in my life. I gotta see it at least once closely. Good to see some of them still up and running.
I assume this isn't what they meant by railroad safety messaging.
@@Seriousmods Definitely not, but I guess they’re operating on the cautious side that day with temporary speed limits, additional horns, and someone standing outside the locomotive watching the crowd 😅
Big Boy passed by my house last year. What a beautiful machine.
Idiots all over the tracks
What **FUN**….thank you for sharing!
That sad where did you move to
I'm now in New Jersey.
i'm going to take one of them in 1 week 😁
Enjoy! (Maybe you have already taken that trip by now)
Can you do a morning commute and rush hour check on Bart to see if more people are riding now
I don't live in the bay area anymore. BART publishes daily ridership number if you're interested www.bart.gov/news/articles/2023/news20230729
SkyLink?
Yes SkyLink. Thanks for the catch let me correct the title.
I cannot the whole fleet is being scrapped. There are like 670 of these cars and only 5 are being kept from scrap... 3 at a museum. The handful at the bottom of the Ocean will probably last longer :(
Such a pity indeed.
Classic 😊
Good video buddy 😅
The Siemens Venture cars remind me of the Comet IB cars with the open doors and the steps to climb up.
With the current seating, these are basically upgraded commuter cars.
Beautiful view and videos as 4k clear 😊 on amtrak 😊😊 well done brother
3:43 D-CAR/FOTF! MY FAVORITE TRAIN
About how often does it go this way via the Niles sub instead of straight through? I’ve traveled on southbound coast starlight train 11 between Oakland and San Jose 7 times between 2016-2023 and all those times it went the direct route and it never went the Niles Canyon route any of the times
As far as I know this unusual routing only appeared a few times in April this year. I also wasn’t expecting this.
@@YuqiLinux very interesting, thanks for sharing! However I think years ago it might have used to be more usual in the past that the Coast Starlight went the Niles Canyon route but I’m not exactly sure about that
do you also have the section along the coast? that would be amazing
Unfortunately no.. it happened to be during my dinner reservation hours so I missed most of the coast section. Also the direct sunshine and the dirty glass made the short clip pretty ugly..
Cool. 😎
Wow.
Does the doors on the Venture cars have that constant bell when its open vs the California cars? If not then turn off the bell on the California cars.
I didn't hear bells when the doors were open.
Love it
Why is there no regular/quick service using this track between SF and LA??? This could be used a huge rail corridor!
I've been actually wondering the same thing.
There was talk of them maybe extending the Capitol Corridor south of SJC to SLO, but it doesn’t sound like that is materialized as of now
2022
Silver Line extension opened on November 15
Thank You!
Nice
I missed riding last time in 2018.
Yamanote Line is my Favorite Line
Calgary Transit Bus CAD being used in the same train series we have is just funny.
BART Train is an Hitachi Train
They're not. The original A/B cars were from Rohr Industries, rebuilt by AdTranz/Bombardier. C cars were from Alstom, and C2 cars were from Morrison-Knudsen. The new Fleet of the Future is from Bombardier (now Alstom). The only thing Hitachi is doing with BART right now is designing and installing a new CBTC signalling system which will replace the legacy signals.
I wonder what happened to the old parlor cars
BEAUTIFUL, STAY SAFE, OKAY😊?
I’m good. I’m in the passenger car behind the door and glass ☺️
I wonder what that other button is for near the floor
Door open/close? They usually have both hand-level and foot-level buttons.
awesome! can you please try and do DC to NY?
