The arrival of Los Reyes Magos is probably one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year, especially by the children as it is then that they receive presents from Los Reyes. Everywhere in Spain you will see the parade of the Three Kings, or the Cabalgata de Los Reyes Magos, as it is known. This takes place on the evening of 5th January, the day before the Epiphany. Hi David, my wife and I are hoping to move to playa Blanca in a couple of years when I retire. Are you aware of any agents who specialise in the Playa Blanca area - been looking at Faro Park / Montana Roja or even las Breñas areas
Hi Stephen, I did a video recently on buying property. Part 3 in this series on moving. Take a look at Idealista, Foto Casa, Rightmove, and Trovimap. All search engines that will show properties. Some local agents are: Lanzarote Investments, Lanzarote Agents, Optima, Estupendo, Playa Blanca Properties, Dream Homes, Olivina, and others as well. I’ll post you a link to my property video.
@StephenMcGhee-qy4jk Here’s the link to my property video. th-cam.com/video/Ps5LMS_KBm8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pKbY2bqR46dwtV4c Good luck with the move. Any questions feel free to ask. 😎
Hi David, thanks for the info, much appreciated
It's only for a few hours, then the sunshine will be out again. Not like England, where we can get 4 seasons in one day. And the next and the next day. I am going to make all my dreams come true, living out my life on the beautiful island of Lanzarote, the land of dreams and smiles. Enjoy your time connecting with nature and wildlife, a perfect way to spend your precious time on earth 🌎
@@karlsugden4161 Thanks Karl. It was only a few minutes and very welcome. I’ve walked many a day in the UK in rain, wind, snow, hail, and occasional sunshine. But always good to be outdoors.
@HolaLanzarote2024 Connecting with nature and wildlife will give you everything you need in life. i walk every day myself, bringing good health joy happiness kindness love and gratitude for the gift of precious time 🙏 I love the island of Lanzarote. I've visited many times, and I have explored the all island it's a magical place to visit or live ✨️
We were walking out by the airport from Playa Honda towards Peurto del Carmen, got soaked along with a few others trying to shelter beside a wall!😂😂

Can British people who have Irish passport use that Irish passport to work and rent property even if they don't live in Ireland but have an EU/Irish passport?
Yes. If you have an Irish passport you are an EU citizen so don’t need a visa and have the right to live and work in Spain. You just need to register as resident with the authorities once you are here.
Thank you for your very informative videos. Would be lovely if you could feature in a future video about general day to day life or even take us around and any language barriers etc. Also do you ever worry about Lanzarote being a volcanic island, of course aware they havent had one in very long time especially as a home owner?! Thank you 😊
@@jeannie2291 Thanks for watching and for your comments and suggestions. Yes the next few I have planned are on general living costs, getting around the area and coping with the language. No, we don’t worry about the volcanoes. I often think there are so many areas where natural disasters like floods devastate properties and are more prevalent these days. Thanks again. 😎
Love the green sauce.
Really enjoyed that walk. Have not walked further than Hotel Miramar but now plan to on our next visit. The pedestrianised seafront looks very well. It was being built when we were last in Arrecife.
Thanks. Yes it’s worth exploring further.
What price range is dinner in Blue 17?
It’s fairly reasonable- around 12-17€ for main courses. You can just go in for a drink or coffee € cake. You can view the menu online. Well worth a visit.
Very informative
@@aileenoneill5619 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.
Thanks for the video it has been very helpful. What’s the best way to change my currency? Thanks
@@andybursnoll Thanks for watching. We set up an account with a currency dealer before we left the UK. There are lots to choose from. Currencies Direct seem to be popular. We also set up an account with Wise. As we were renting we didn’t have to move all our cash at once so we waited until the rates were more favourable and changed smaller amounts at a time. We ended up not using the currency dealer as we got better rates with Wise. It’s always a gamble as to when to change - you don’t know if it’s going to go up or down. And for every 100,000 euros you want, a movement of 1 cent on the £ is 1000€, so it makes a big difference.
@ Thanks for reply. Useful advice I appreciate it. 👍
What is the squatter situation in that area of Lanzarote ?
@@radiantinred There are squatters in some of the part-built houses where the developers went out of business. A lot of them are working people who just can’t find affordable housing in the area. The authorities evicted squatters from another unfinished development a few months ago. I’m not aware of any significant problem of squatters occupying people’s houses, but that maybe just my lack of knowledge.
Is there council tax in Lanzarote?
@@carolgeraghty3488 You pay what is known as IBI to the local council, so that would be the equivalent of council tax, and you also pay separately for rubbish collection. The IBI is based on the cadastral value of your house. In our case it’s 420€ a year. Rubbish tax is about 30€ a year. Rates may differ dependant on where you live. Then if you live on a community you pay community fees to cover services on the community. Our community fees are 480€ a year.
@HolaLanzarote2024 thank you very much for taking the time to answer
Very very interesting thank you 😊

Spanish government announced today a 100% tax on property bought by non EU residents. This has to be a worry ?
It's not really a worry to anyone moving here as they will then be EU residents, so not subject to any proposed tax increase.
Really interesting to hear how you did the move analytics David. We sold our UK house, then moved our “must keep” items into a storage facility in South Manchester. GB Rentals in Manchester then simply picked up all our stuff from the storage unit and shipped to Lanzarote. We rented a (fully furnished) flat for three months prior to our move. It is good advice to get rid of as much c**p as you can. Charity shops really benefited from us too!
Apologies - meant "GB Liners Ltd"
Thanks once again. Good to hear your story too. We all learn from each other. As I always say, every day is a school day!
Hope you enjoy this episode. Any questions about this, or any other aspect of moving to Spain/Lanzarote, please feel free to ask in the comments box. I always reply.
Good information for anyone wanting to move to Lanzarote or Spain, it's the paper work and language barrier that stresses everyone out.Do you still get your state pension from the UK when you move ?
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes you still get your state pension from the UK in Spain, and as a UK pensioner you also get free public healthcare.
Too windy for me. Tenerife is my choice.
@@DenisMclean-e9o Yes in the summer months the wind can be quite annoying but my wife likes it as it keeps it cooler. Thanks for watching. I’ve only ever been to Santa Cruz in the north of Tenerife and I loved it.

Apparently your name is Dave, so, dave I have a question, How does getting an "S1" from the UK NHS affect the need of getting health insurance? Be there for eight weeks from 9 Jan.
@@12alocin Yes, Dave here. 😃 The S1 gives you full state health cover. However, you can only get an S1 if you are a UK pensioner living or intending to live in the EU/EEA/Switzerland. There are some other very limited circumstances but It doesn’t apply to tourists.
@@HolaLanzarote2024 Thanks for that. I knew that it is for pensioners, but I thought that you would also need some private insurance. Just need to convince my wife now!
@@12alocin My wife was a bit unsure but she loves it now.

Hotel Diamar.
In the video I mentioned the financial requirements for long term residency EU are 150% of IPREM for the first applicant and 50% for each dependent. It is actually 150% IPREM for a COUPLE, not each, and 50% for each dependent thereafter.
Hello, this question is off topic I know. How much is a KWH of electric and how much is the equal of council tax? I will be in the Biker Bar every day from the 10 Jan, where I leave my wife while I have a swim at Dorada, hope to catch you there.
@@12alocin Hi again, electricity varies depending on the plan you have. Some plans have the same rate 24/7 while others have 3 different rates depending on when you use it. Average is probably around 10 to 12 céntimos per kWh. I’ve seen some advertising 9 centimos with Endesa but not sure of the contract details. Council tax equivalent is called IBI and rubbish collection is usually extra. We pay 420€ a year for IBI and rubbish collection is included in our community fees, which are about the same amount.
@@HolaLanzarote2024 Thanks for that. Our first night will be dinner in the Chinese overlooking Flamingo beach around 6.30.
Great video of a very eclectic night David. Not sure the "screamer" on stage at 6.10 is quite my taste though. 🤣🤣🤣
@@watchthis7620 Thanjs again for watching and commenting. Yes, a real mix of music. I perhaps didn’t really get the best of the singer, she sang Alleluia beautifully but I was a bit bothered about copyright issues if I put more of the song in the video. Swan Lake next week 😀
Really good video David - thank you. I will definitely hop in the car and do that walk next week myself. Also good use of stock drone footage - have you considered getting one of your own? 👍
Thanks again for watching and for the comments. Hope you enjoy it. I did think about getting a drone as it really adds something to videos - but I think I might be dangerous with it! It's good to be able to use stock footage , although I would prefer it to be all my own work.
