Bruce, great video once again and show-casing a high degree of competence as usual. The weather sure sent you a mix of conditions but handled by you so well. Catch you soon Bruce.
Thanks Mike, I always look forward to hearing your thoughts on my latest adventure 🙏
whats the ballast of your dinghy?
There is no ballast except my gear and myself. The centreboard is 17kg.
@@brucedyson-smith459 Thats soo cool! I'm planing to make a free project called Clown 450, the project is stitch and glue, hope I be able to make few adventures like yours :O Do you know this project? Do you think I will be able to make that? I'm a little worried about him stern, have 360mm tall only :X
@@ThiagueraPlay I don’t know your project,do you have any pictures of it?
@@brucedyson-smith459 Yes, how can I send to you?
@@brucedyson-smith459 Sure, how can I send the pics to you?
what kinda electronic stuff did you have if any?
Just a handheld VHF and 406 EPIRB. I use paper charts and my phone for Lat and Long.
Looks like a great sail
It sure was
Hey, Bruce, thanks for the latest video. Nice job with the shooting and editing and great job sailing the DS - especially single handing with the spinnaker. I always look forward to seeing your next adventure. I'll be sharing this on a couple sites where other Day Sailers lurk. Thanks and keep on sailing. Lee
Thanks Lee, I appreciate hearing from you, it’s always good to hear people are enjoying my work.Thank you also for sharing onto other sites.Cheers Bruce
Enjoy
Looks great!
Love your work mate. You guys certainly take on some epic trips for small boat sailors. I'm slowly getting my confidence up with Luna Blu and in time I hope to do more adventurous things, but Moreton Bay can be rough so I have to learn the ropes first.
Thanks Jason, good to hear from you.You have a good boat under your feet so with a bit more time you will be right. Shame I can’t get up to see you guys next week but will have to work something in sometime.
Such a contrast. You are doing 70nm open water journeys, ripping out through heads in 20kts whilst casually fishing and dodging whales and dolphins, and I cant even manage to get my boat wet. At least someone is getting it done!
You will get there Rob,it’s all a matter of time and practice. And even if you don’t you can always watch and experience it from some silly bugger like me from the comfort of an armchair .
Another beautiful video. Always a great adventure. Thanks Bruce.
Thank you Rob, I appreciate you saying so. Cheers Bruce
Hello... I am building my own wooden dinghy based on the Heron but with modifications. I intend to be able to camp cruise and sleep at least one aboard. Did you manage to convert it at night to have a sleeping platform afloat or simply you camp on beaches ? Thanks and kudos from Italy ...
Hi Stefan, I never got sleeping arrangements organised and just camped ashore but it’s not too hard to make some slats for a sleeping platform. In my first Heron I slept in the bottom of the boat. Good luck with it. Cheers Bruce
Great video of your trip, thanks for taking the effort to record and edit it all ... I know how difficult it is to press record when the moment is "interesting" and the time needed to edit all the raw footage
Thank you, for your appreciation of what’s involved. It sounds like you make videos also?
@@brucedyson-smith459 Yes Bruce we were quite active with our channel for a while, but I got a bit jaded with TH-cam and certain aspects of their rules and censorship so I stopped putting an ongoing effort into it for TH-cam content.
@@FreeRadicalslifestyle Right I haven’t run into that problem yet but I am not partnered with them as I am only small fry at this stage.
Nice job gents! I was thinking of you on the return leg, the sea state was just about ideal looking out from Curl Curl. You know how to pick the conditions!
Thanks Josh, yes you have to go with the conditions in our little boats.
What a great trip Bruce, really enjoyed this. Great to see the wildlife down the coast. Makes me keen to get out there again.
@@DavideoSolar thanks Dave, yes it is a good time of year to be out there.
Great Sail!! I am working up a 12 ft Jon Boat for a Sailer here in the States. Gonna have a Mudskipper outboard, oars, sails and wee trolling motor for options to get about!! Should be all a bloke shall need here!!
Great stuff, I hope it all works out well for you. I am always doing something on my boat it never seems to end.
Great couple of days on the water with kind winds.
Yes it was thanks.
Nice to see you've "dampened the hull" once again, Bruce. Also enjoyed the historical anecdotes along the way. Thank you.
Thanks Mike, nice to hear from you.
Great sail Bruce, you've got to love the wildlife off the NSW coast (I'm counting you and John in that category as well!)
Thanks Ric there was plenty of it.
How do you go ashore?
We anchored in knee deep water at Shell Harbour and we swam ashore at Watamolla
Great viewing Bruce especially flying that kite chasing John.. thanks
Thanks Mitch, good to hear from you 👍
Good to see you down my neck of the woods
A nice neck of the woods too.
Thanks for taking us along again Bruce. You have one of the most anticipated channels on TH-cam. Great adventures that you share with us that are a bit less courageous than yourself. Much appreciated. ⛵👍
Thank you for the kind words. I’m not sure about being one of the most anticipated channels but I am happy you think so and enjoy it.🙏
Always wondered about portaging the boat up the beach into the lagoon at Wattamulla for a less rocky night :).
Yes John and I were talking about that using big fenders a tackle and burying the anchor in the sand as a means for moving the boat.
Great little trip on all points of sail. Enjoyed immensely. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks Eric, I look forward to seeing your boat on the water soon too.
@@brucedyson-smith459 Bruce, what is the flag you fly?
@@ericdahlkamp6781 It’s the marine letter R flag which we use for our Raid Facebook group.
Thanks for a nice trip.
No problem 🙏
Really enjoyed that thanks for posting. I have the same RC hat as you they are great!
It sure keeps my neck from burning.
Great video and a epic voyage!
Thanks Khiem
Great video Bruce you and John are the real adventures. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks Steve, glad you liked it mate!
Fantastic Bruce what a great sail and also great weather and whales....well done, cheers Paul
Thanks Paul, I hope to catch you soon.
You never seem to get wet !
I try not to,she’s a fairly dry boat to sail.
Another fantastic video mate. Perfect. Very inspirational. 🎉
Thanks mate, the weather is warming Will be good to see you out there over the coming season.
One perfect day.....
Thanks Kevin 👍
OK , I'm just being a weenie now , but is Aluminium something like Aluminum ? It's got to be an English type accent thing . Anyways I have a song for that . I,m just being stupid . Aluminum .... nut nut , banana Aluminum .... nut nut nut nut Aluminum .... nut nut ,banana , Banana , banana , banana , banana nut nut nut nut nut nut .
Not sure but an interesting song.
@@brucedyson-smith459 it only makes sense with the Muppet show theme song .
Im sure its an old question for you but what size is your motor ... watched your GBR video fighting the tide . curious .
Hi thanks for the question. My motor is a 3.3 hp which I like because it only weighs 12kg and is enough power for most situations.the next size up jumps up to 21kg I think.
@@brucedyson-smith459 Exactly . I have been looking at some Suzuki's . 2.5 hp is 14 kg , 4 and 6 hp are at 24 kg . Then the 9.9 weighs in at 45 kg .
Great!
Thankyou
Why do you fly the smal red flag with the yellow cross? Like your videos.
Thanks, the flag is the letter R signal which we use to represent our sailing group “Raid”
Wonderful
Wonderful trip thanks for posting
Thank you 🙏
BRUCE, thank you for this post. I reckon I’m a bit behind. Been following Paul. Good to see you. I appreciate that you’re not afraid to get out, even in rough weather. I did exactly that when younger. I was always thinking, we won’t get better by avoiding difficulties. Good on you! Say, “Hey”, to Paul. Thanks again from…the US, east Tennessee.
G’day Papa Jeff, thanks for taking the time to watch my videos and writing to me. I do enjoy getting out into some challenging conditions and glad you appreciate it.Are you or were you a Daysailer man? Will pass on your regards to Paul.
Absolutely gorgeous . thank for sharing . Holy cow are those sea turtles quick .
Thanks for the comment.Yes it’s amazing how quick they can swim.

I would love to be this confident on the water. Hopefully one day...
Thanks, yes time on the water will do it for you.
THANK YOU
Have bought 3 boats in the last year - lido 14, amf alcort sunbird 16, and the day after tomorrow will pick up a west wood potter 15 w trailer (roadtrip) that I bought for the princely sum of $700 American
Wow that’s a good buy by the sound of it.Good luck with the road trip.
@brucedyson-smith459 Imay very well need that luck I've been using a 2014 corolla tow my small fleet around w no problem- but this one may b a stretch
Many may not know corolla r formidable and tow moe than camry's
Was formally a "live aboard " for years on many occasions on a Bristol 24 (full keel - I believe weighed the better part of a ton) and was a little intimidated by being a boat owner again
The Potter will be a bit different to sail than the Bristol 24.Trailer boats are a lot less maintenance without the slipping etc.
Hey Bruce!!! - ur videos are priceless - watching u and "sailing Kate Louise," as well as Roger Barnes have gotten me back into sailing after a long hiatus
Thanks Peter, I love to hear from people who are being inspired by my videos.Thankyou for taking the time to write.
An of topic question. What do you think of a on the boom reefing method? Take boom off the mast and roll the mainsail onto the boom. Is this possible on a small boat? In wind 15knts or less.? I not trying to go fast just to get on the water and sail.
As long as you’re mainsheet is only coming off the end of the boom this might work but your sail will want to creep towards the mast over time which will make the sail shape too full.
Amazing
Thank you.
